When you read this article - not that it's definitive and all-inclusive - you get a picture of what the Jets are facing in trying to fill the long lost pass rushing stud spot. All those who have said "Wait until 2019 and we'll get our pass rusher there" are overlooking just how hard it is to accurately assess talent when the college and pro games are so different. I say Macc should get Fowler now and then if he has a shot to get "can't miss" pass rusher in the draft go for it, but he needs to try as many different approaches as he can.
Leo is a run stuffing pocket pusher. Mack is an explosion off of the edge. Completely different players, Leo has nowhere near the impact of Mack. And Leo would’ve become an even better player if we landed Mack. Yet another reason to make the move.

Joey Bosa heading into his 3rd year has a combined 23.0 sacks when in comparison to Khalil Mack with 21.5 over the past two years and Bosa is only 23 years of age and there were not one, not two, not ten etc but 14 other NFL pass rushers who put up bigger sack #'s than Khalil Mack but yet Jet fans seem to feel that Khalil Mack will be the last impact outside/edge rushers that'll walk through those NFL draft doors. Not true. Chicago better pray to the Football God's he doesn't tear an ACL after holding out throughout the entire offseason, training camp and preseason regardless if he's an elite athlete with great conditioning; you can not simulate NFL real time game speed.

Exactly. Would have impacted the whole D-line almost as much as the secondary. As it stands, Leo gets doubled and the QB has an extra second or 2 to pick apart the secondary. Oh well, on to the next.
Also, whenever the edge rusher wins on the edge the QB has to step up in the pocket, which is already being pushed back by Leo.
Which is what makes the seeming lack of urgency to fill the pass rushing position such a mystery and so frustrating. How can a team allow this to go on as it has here for so long? If we didn't have the players, why didn't we try harder to get them? If it's the coaching, why do we still have those coaches? All I know is I'm sick and tired of watching the other team's QB have all the time in the world to pick apart our defense and march down the field.

Point is BOTH guys are former top five picks. Williams IS supposed to be that type of disruptive force for the Jets. The Jets need him to step up his game big time. He'll be up for a new contract soon no doubt he'll be looking to break the bank. Pepper Johnson knocked him, he hasn't blown me away so far. Paying a mediocre defender without big stats like he's a franchise defende would be asnuts as Oakland paying Carr $25 million per year. If Williams wants that cash he has to make everyone forget about Mack.

Nah just using team rankings to contradict those who continue to mention how Khalil Mack "elevates his entire defense around him" and/or "makes his teammates better". 2017's Oakland Raiders Defense: • 20th in points allowed. • 24th in defensive sacks. • 27th in yards allowed per play. • 30th in QB Rating against. • 31st in turnovers forced. • 32nd in defensive INT's. I'm just pointing out that those assessments are inaccurate. Guys like Ray Lewis and Darrelle Revis took their defenses to a completely different level. Unfortunately for Oakland, Khakil Mack never did. Which is why they refused to pay him before then trading him away.
Isn’t Fowler likely to be a free agent next year? If so Mac has to show this guy the money. Probably one of those Mac-type of a contracts for 3-4 years but in reality it’s really a 2 year deal. Giviing up nothing for Fowler is preferable than trading 2 1st rounders for Mack.
Yea right. And how could you ever keep that defense together with Khalil Mack getting over $22.5M per season? And then how would we find Darnold a Franchise LT without not one, but two 1st round picks not to mention being without next year's 2nd? No thank you.
Out of all those teams who mortgaged two 1st rd picks for a player, I believe only one went on to win a championship with the player they traded for. The Bucs with Keyshawn, and they won that championship in large part because of their defense and Gruden's knowledge of his ex team they faced in the Super Bowl which was at that time the Raiders.
Imagine thinking defense wins championships but not wanting a Defensive Player of the Year and All-Pro
There was no way the Jets could have satisfied Oakland's asking price, which many claimed to be at least 2 #1's. This was good move because the Raiders felt he was a 1 dimensional player as team defensive stat rankings show.
And misunderstanding team defensive stats with the impact that player could have on an entire defense.
