A "10 year period"? Funny. Because the last time I checked Maccagnan has only had 4 drafts and three 2nd round picks as a Jets GM while coming off of a gem in Marcus Maye out of Florida. And please let's not harp over Devin Smith & Christian Hackenberg when A.) Any draft pick can become derailed by NFL injuries and B.) Maccagnan was forced to reach for a Franchise QB in Hackenberg due to years of not having one (until now, with Sam Darnold). Stop pretending and acting as if 33.3% is "bad" when I can name you a boat load of other GM's who've failed with their 2nd round picks more often, than not...
Nope. Not to re-sign him long term they didn't. They drafted him. And they never once even had to trade up in order to do so (either) . Ala they'll still have next year's 1st round pick + all available draft assets moving forward... The Jets on the other hand would not only be forced to trade away multiple draft picks including a 1st round pick but also pay over $22.5M per season (or close to it, if not more) for the services of a 27 year old Khalil Mack. Big, big difference right there.
There is no difference in 2018. Both players are 27, and it's prime age in NFL, so you can drop that narrative. And Donald cost the Rams a 1st round pick to acquire, plus they are paying him over 20M per season. It would be the same for Mack. Only difference is the Rams had the player longer. If the cost for Mack was multiple firsts, I'd agree with you, but that won't be the cost.
Did the Rams also dish out multiple draft picks including a 1st round pick in order to extend him long term? Nope! Do the Rams (still) have their 2019 1st round draft pick (plus all other draft assets)? Yup! "Confirmed".
When did I say ten years under Mac.. it's still a decade of failure regardless. I also mentioned Maye as still to be determined. As for the second part that's exactly the kind of draft day thinking which continues to plague this team. He was not forced - he made a decision and an incredibly poor one at that.
Oakland said they won't even consider trading him unless it included multiple 1st round picks. I don't see them trading mack at all at this point. may be better to pursue fowler and try and get him for the 3rd we got for teddy
They can say thats the price, but ain't no one paying it. They'll either have to buck up, or trade him at a more realistic price. Those are their options. I want no part of trading anything valuable for Fowler. He's an underachiever, an asshole, and is not under contract past this season.
khalil mack is not under contract after this season as well. any trade we made would have to include a new deal for either one so no difference there. fowler is 3 years younger though and had 8 sacks last year and 2 more in the playoffs. hardly call that under achieving. he's not as good as mack obviously but would cost less and isn't holding out either like mack is. I agree nobody is going to pay that price but they can franchise him next year as well so i doubt they move him
I highly doubt that they'll trade Fowler Jr. before the end of the season. Jacksonville would rather lose him for nothing in return come Free Agency rather than giving away one of their best pass rushers during a year in which they'll be considered as being serious contenders. Which is when I fully expect for the Jets to go All-Out for a potential F.A pass rushing OLB/Edge rusher such as a... • Jadeveon Clowney. • DeMarcus Lawrence. • Dante Fowler Jr. • Ezekiel Ansah. • Frank Clark. • Anthony Barr (one of the best coverage OLB's within the entire league). With our available salary cap space we'll not only be able to sign one of these pass rushers, but we could eventually afford two of these guys (for the price of one) and chances are for less than 22.5M per (combined). While still keeping our 2019 1st round draft pick for either a Franchise LT, a true #1 WR, an impactful 1st round RB or even a massive 3-4 NT etc, etc.
thats also a very good point. realistically speaking we likely won't be able to fix out pass rusher issues until the off season. Luckily we have a ton of cap room and now a 1st and 2 3rd round picks to focus on o-line and pass rusher
Exactly. Just imagine an OLB duo of Dante Fowler Jr. as your outside pass rusher and Anthony Barr as your elite pass coverage OLB within a 3-4 Defense along with a 2019 1st round Franchise LT in order to protect Sam Darnold's blind side. Imo you'd be an idiot to pay $22M per season for just Khalil Mack - over the likes of two extremely talented OLB's & a Franchise LT. Or how about: A.) Getting just one Pass Rusher in either a Jadeveon Clownery, DeMarcus Lawrence or Dante Fowler Jr through Free Agency. And... B: Signing the NFL's best overall RB come Free Agency and drafting our future LT with our 2019's 1st round pick (in order to completely Re-Vamp our entire offensive attack). . • Clowney/Lawrence or Fowler Jr. (FA). • LeVeon Bell (FA). • Franchise LT for Sam's blind side (1st round). Those are only a few possibilities nonetheless it'll be impossible to convince me that trading away multiple draft picks including a 1st round draft pick along with paying over $20 Million in cap space, for Khalil Mack; is a good idea.
the good thing is we have a ton of options. bell isn't coming here so forget about that. the draft coming up is stacked with o-line so i'd look to address o-line in the draft with 2 of our top 3 picks. we should be able to sign an elite pass rusher. i'd be ok with just 1 personally and running jenkins on the other side and signing a top lineman as well in the offseason so we have a veteran. I wouldn't worry much about RB. they are too easy to find. we just signed crowell, we have maguire and cannon. powell will be gone. o-line will make the QB and RB better naturally. many just good RBs have had huge seasons due to a good o-line. we need to focus on pass rush and o-line next off season
For Mack you work out the long term extension before the trade is even finalized. He's a proven stud, former DPOY, hard worker and good teammate. Fowler is none of those things. He's flirting with bust status in Jax, so obviously you don't immediately hand him a big contract. He'd hit FA in the offseason. We'd be faced with losing a 3rd over a total rental, or giving an unreliable guy a big contract. Giving up a 3rd for him is bad value, and I think would end up being a complete waste. Back to Mack with Raiders, again they will eventually either have to buck up or trade him at a more realistic price tag. The longer they wait, the lower his trade value gets.
He's an asshole, you have no idea what he's going to demand and he's a guy that will DEFINITELY hold out. Not spending any draft capital on someone that's an asshole and is ready to take his money and be Wilk 2.0. You know in Mack what you're going to get. And don't get caught up in just sacks--Mack does SO much more than Fowler, worth SO much more. Fowler is a POS.
Exactly. Fowler is a POS and Wilk 2.0 waiting to happen. And he's not an all around "elite" defender--Mack changes and elevates everyone on your defense, Fowler changes your locker room.
Thats not what ive heard at all. If anything the opposite.Hes a big time leader, great in the community, hard worker..theres a reason he wore the “C” in oakland. Now the way hes handled the holdout.i dont agree w..but all these guys are like this now..agents are giving horrible “me first” advice & it gets rationalized as being “a business”. That said Raiders have handled this absolutely horribly..they make the jets seem like contract management geniuses w Revis & wilkerson compared to this garbage But back to my original point..Youre getting a rare talent on the fiekd & a big time leader off of it.You add him to Leo,Adams,Maye & Trumaine..thats a big boy locker room & leadership base Edit:Sorry i read that wrong..you were referring to Fowler. My apologies
Wilk never threw someone's groceries into a lake, refereed a fight between girlfriends, or started fights with his own positional players. Fowler is more on the Santonio Holmes/Meshawn Johnson level of douche, maybe worse, and without the proven production. These guys wouldn't give up a 1st for the DPOY, but will gladly toss a 3rd for a bust Jax would like to move on from. Makes no sense.
