I'm sure that survey did not account for all Jet and Giant fans within the NY/Northeastern areas.

Winning creates popularity. Saying the Jets are more popular than the Giants would almost be like saying the Mets are more popular than the Yankees.

    I just don't believe it.

But with that said our fan base win or lose is very loyal and passionate about our team.

Data has to be hand picked. Not a chance.

  3. Giant fans go into hiding more when things go bad

Id say there are more casual football fans that are giants fans which leads to them having more popularity overall. But the jets have more loyal passionate die hards.

In terms of popularity I would say

    Giants over Jets
    Yanks over Mets
    Rangers over Isles and Devils
    Knicks over Nets.
It's always been that way and probably always will.

Yep. Just how it is. The Jets, Mets, Isles, Devils, and Nets all have good fan bases though and they would obviously grow larger with winning.

    “Popularity” is very transient.

There are more Giant and Yankee fans than Jet and Met fans but in the late 1980s and in 2015 the Mets owned the city.

During the Parcells era, and in part of the Rex era and again in 2015 the Jets owned the city.

    Otherwise clearly Giants Yanks.

I think Sam will start to make the Jets more “popular” especially if Eli continues to decline and OBJ continues to be an asshole.

According to the survey it was just NYC, Northern NJ and the area in Connecticut closer to NYC. It is a little surprising, but my guess is the sample size was not too large.

If the Jets start winning and going to the playoffs every year while winning a Lombardi Trophy, it really won't matter.

In Queens and LI, I would say yes the Jets are definitely more popular and the more passionate fanbase.

And for those grouping the Giants with the Yankees, please just stop.
The Giants rarely even sniff the playoffs, and historically only the Canadiens compare to the Yanks in North American sports.

Just a pointless poll with BS data. Also North Jersey has always been Giants country with some hardcore Jets pockets. Whatever. Next.

According to survey it was all 5 boroughs, all LI, Northern Jersey, and the NY and Conn counties just north of the city.
So pretty much everything in the local Tri-state lol.

I agree tho the sample sizes in these surveys are always suspect.
I saw one of these last year which was almost reverse of this.

Who knows. When I had a sports bar/restaurant on LI, we made a lot more money when the Jets were on tho....even when they sucked.
Hell we'd get more Cowboys fans than Giants.

North Jersey is more Giants than Jets but the Jets have made inroads. Remember the Giants got an 8 year head start in NJ

If the Jets win with a marquee QB like Darnold, they will be the more popular team.

I've never been an NFL fan, didn't know half the team names, but I did know about the Jets out here in SoCal.

Broadway Joe had alot to do with that.

Curious did USC loyalists latch on to the Jets with Sanchez and now Darnold?

Not really, we follow our former players generally, not their teams. There are threads on our boards that keep us up to date on how our guys are doing in the NFL, we refer to them as "Projans". Don't forget Leo.

I'll admit, I was surprised I didn't hear a round of loud boos when Sam was announced on draft night, some of us thought Sam was in for a rough time with NY fans. I was pleasantly surprised, so I landed here.

"Popularity" is a fuzzy term, but what you're suggesting might at least make sense based on what these data actually are - it seems like most people didn't actually read the story. This isn't based on any kind of survey, despite what the misleading title of the story says. This is based on the zip codes of people who buy NFL tickets on Seat Geek - that's it. This obviously has nothing to do with what most people would call popularity, particularly in pro football, where there are fewer seats available over the course of a season than for other sports (because of a short season and a high percentage of season tickets). Casual fans don't buy tickets to football games (especially in November and December), so there's no way they would show up here.

Further, if season ticket holders for the Giants are more rabid than those for the Jets, they'll go to the games and won't resell their tickets, meaning more Jets tickets would be available and could be sold. Does that make the Jets more popular? Of course not. The Jaguars sold 10,000 new season tickets before this season, and should be very good, while the Buccaneers raised their prices after having the fourth-worst attendance in the NFL last year, and should be very bad. I'll bet there will be way more Buc tickets available on Seat Geek than there will Jags tickets, and as a result there may very well be more sold in counties in between Tampa and Jacksonville. Does that mean the Bucs are more popular there? Of course not.

Man. You have no idea. If only you would've thought to check this place out prior to the 2017 NFL season. Our fan base was in an absolute frenzy for Darnold with threads calling for "Suck for Sam" throughout the course of our 2017 season.

Also neat how you mentioned Leo. Man. His sack numbers as a 3-4 DE/Interior D-Lineman aren't there but he's put so many pressures and hits on opposing QB's that it's not even funny this guy is an absolute freakishly all around animal and a true blue chip leader on our D-Line. Bet you all loved Leonard Williams @ USC.

Historic program you all have had for quite some time out there in So. Cal and for me being a big time fan of both Defense and the RB position it really gets no better than Ronnie Lott, Junior Seau, Troy Polamalu and Marcus Allen for me. Reggie Bush is arguably the funnest and most electric college player I've ever seen. And as an NY Jets fan Keyshawn Johnson was a real joy.

I'm highly anticipating Sam Darnold like no other Jets QB ever within my lifetime and if only we could protect him with an Anthony Munoz, Bruce Matthews or Tony Boselli type of O-Lineman. Although I'll settle for a Clay Matthews III type of outside pass rushing animal.

Your overall thoughts of Darnold's potential on an NFL level?
