Hopefully, those picks won't be used on Mack..the 1st rounder will be used on our future LT, and Mac will either trade up into the 2nd round to get an edge rusher, or will draft a very good RB and a good OL prospect with the two 3rd rounders.
It's likely ammo for Mack, and IF Mac can pry Khalil Mack away from the Raiders in the same off-season he got Sam Darnold after trading up to 3, then he hit back-to-back home runs setting the Jets up for a run at winning the AFC East for years to come.
Or they trade the 3rd they just got for Fowler and keep that 1st for next year. It's house money at this point.
Suppose they swung a 1st & 3rd for Mack & 3rd for Fowler w public knowledge that both are intending to sign long term. Lets bare in mond we’d still have significant cap space & OL staring Mac right back in the face. OL could be drastically improved w those sort of funds.I dont think the OL free agent group is as lousy as others believe. There will be some very good options
Trade for Fowler and use the first on a WR next year. Hopefully pick up 1/2 more Oline pieces form free agency/draft next year
Yeah, I just read that elsewhere. Bye, Khalil-as-an-improbable-Jet. He'll be losing over $800K a week by holding out into the regular season. I probably won't make that in my life time.
We thinking of the same Mac?? A OL pick in the first round?? Have you forgotten BPA!?!!? More like draft a DL 1st pick, a DB and a WR in the 3rd, 4th round is where we get the LB that doesn't play outside and can't rush, and wait till the 5-7 rounds to pick up a OL or two to compete for back up jobs. That's the Mac I know
Two first rounders is too much. It's VERY tempting to go all out for Mack, but this is still about our future. I'd give up the 1st and our 3rd (or both of em) and 2nd rounder in 2020 are all options, or some variation of that with a player like Jordan Jenkins. However, two first rounders (especially when we could easily be picking top 10 again) is just way too much. Would you give up Jamal Adams and Leonard Williams for Mack? I would not. Those are two of Mack's 1st round picks, the only one looking to not work out so far is Darron Lee. If Darnold is the future, we need to build around him and fill a ton of holes. We need at least one of those 1st rounders. If we can give up a 3rd for Fowler, that would be a low(ish) risk, high reward move for a pass rusher, we could still get a top pass rusher in next years' loaded draft as well as a top OL or two in Free Agency.
Isn't Mark Gastineau considered as being the greatest N.Y Jets pass rusher of All-Time? Because he wasn't drafted until the 2nd round... Says, who, you? Since when did the NFL draft stop producing talent after only the 1st round? Not only have there been a boat load of All-Time great pass rushers drafted outside of the 1st round (a little bit of research goes a long ways) but just last year alone there were plenty of non 1st round impactful pass rushers such as... Calais Campbell ranked 2nd in sacks with 14.5 and wasn't drafted until the 2nd round. Demarcus Lawrence ranked tied for 2nd with 14.5 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 2nd round. Everson Griffen ranked 6th with 13.0 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 4th round. Yannick Ngakoue ranked 10th with 12.0 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 3rd round. Mario Addison ranked 13th with 11.0 sacks and went undrafted (2011). Cameron Wake ranked 17th with 10.5 sacks and went undrafted (2005). Justin Houston ranked 19th with 9.5 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 3rd round. Geno Atkins (DT) ranked 23rd with 9.0 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 4th round. Frank Clark ranked tied for 23rd with 9.0 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 2nd round. Akiem Hicks ranked 26th with 8.5 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 3rd round. Michael Bennett ranked tied for 26th with 8.5 sacks and went undrafted (2009). Carl Lawson was tied for 26th with 8.5 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 4th round. Vince Williams (IMLB) was ranked 30th with 8.0 sacks and wasn't drafted until the 6th round. etc, etc and the list goes on and on... 13 of the top 30 sack artist(s) from last year (2017) were all drafted outside of the 1st round. You shouldn't turn off your Television after the 1st round...
Mack is special, but absolutely no 27 Year old defensive player is worth 2 first round picks. I would offer a 1st and 3rd for Mack right now. That is it. Raiders are stupid for not just paying Mack to be one of their core players instead of trying to force a player of his ilk to play on a 5th yr option. Enjoy that distraction Chucky.
Nobody is doing that!! And they do not have the cash to pay Mack what he's looking for...they're Stuck, unless they are willing to let him sit out the season.
Former Defensive Player of the Year or not; no 27 year old defensive player is worth no two 1st round draft picks. Only an elite top 5 QB would be worth that type of asking price. Oakland is simply trying to fleece a team (before moving to Vegas). For as great as Mack is, and probably the best overall OLB around; as a pass rusher he's ranked 8th (2016) & 15th (2017) in sacks each of the past two season's. Not all, but some Jet fans are acting as if he'll be the first and last elite pass rusher that's ever lived to play the game while some make it seem and feel as if he'll be the first and last defensive player to ever win the Defensive Player of the Year award. For as great of a pass rusher as he is and since being drafted into the league 4 years ago... He's only been able to lead his team to 1 winning season when in comparison to 3 losing seasons: With a career losing record of 28-36 overall (.437%). Even during the season in which he won his Defensive Player of the Year award his team still lost to the Texans during Wild Card weekend (his 1st and only playoff game, a loss). I'm starting to want absolutely nothing do with Khalil Mack. Not even for one single 1st round pick i don't. Not at the age of 27 with 3 losing seasons compared to 1 winning season, 0-1 in the playoffs and a career "winning" percentage of .437% I don't. No thank you.
I'll take Le'Veon Bell over this guy without giving up any future trade assets any day of the week and twice on Sunday's. Wake me up when an NFL Linebacker wins the NFL M.V.P award. Because it has not happened since dating back to 1986 with Lawrence Taylor. He was the 1st, and the last. But yet, since then (1986)? There have actually been 7 RB's to win the MVP award. Thurman Thomas. Emmitt Smith. Terrell Davis. Marshall Faulk. Shaun Alexander. LaDainian Tomlinson. Adrian Peterson. And before those 7 there were another 9 RB's who earned NFL MVP award honors. Some say Le'Veon Bell is "just an RB" despite averaging 80 pass receptions each of the past two years. I can just as easily say "Khalil Mack is just an OLB/DE who DOES NOT HELP HIS TEAMS WIN".
That is just silly, that they don't have the money to pay him. They gave a coach a ten million year contract for 10 year contract. Do you know how much each NFL team gets from the Tv contract.( NFL cuts them a check) That's pure Bs that a team doesn't have the money. K Mack can sit out this season( loses 13.8 million - 800,000 per game) and Raiders would recoup that money to apply to next years salary cap. The Raiders set the price what it will cost to acquire K Mack, and they don't get it - they will gladly just keep him.( have to justify the trade to their fan base why you gave away your captain.). Anything less than two number 1 , their fan base won't be happy.

Coaches salary doesn't come out of the salary cap, player salary does They may have the room on the cap but an extension would push them right up to the cap this season and would leave them a minimal amount next season after you calculate Macks cap hit and rookies. They have the second most FAs coming up next season so they need some cap room. Jets are up there too as far as number of FAs but they have some cap room.
