no secret that I think Bowels is a very bad HC and its also no secret that I do not love Mike Mac. I said it before , anyone of us can hit home runs in the first round of the draft but its finding players , talent and depth after that 1st round and I am not a firm believer in Mac its 4 years later and the team still has oceans of holes. I think I could have easily started a new thread with this article from Costello .This article is on point,,,read on https://nypost.com/2018/08/27/jets-...ches/?utm_campaign=iosapp&utm_source=mail_app
Posters here think I am making this up but Bowles had an EXIT STRATEGY for himself as soon as they made him HC..ie take advantage of an owner putting you on the same level as the GM (pretty stupid for J and J to do this) and insist the GM get D players in Draft and FA so my D looks good ..Bowles and Kacy know that after years in the NFL ..HCs just come and go..so cover your azz Oh really??..posters here and the Bowles homers just cant believe our own HC has an ulterior motive..or that "he had nothing to work with" ..well if rounds one thru three are getting you only D and leaving rounds 4 thru 7 for mediocre receivers, olinemen etc thats correct...but THAT was the HC s idea imo FTRMR TB knows he cant coach worth a dime so he recycles OCs to "produce points" for him while he gets to work with the better players So to follow up this good post ..Mac HAS to work with his sh*tty HC ..even if he disagrees with him and thus accounts imo why there is NEVER a concerted effort to get the point scorers
In addition to all that, TB and Kacy have been dismal in improving the performance of the defense. Further, the excruciating number of stupid ass penalties is a direct reflection on poor Head coaching, nothing else. Add the fact that Todd has not yet shown awareness to attract talent at the coaching position, including ST, DC, and two prior OC and you begin to wonder why we are still protecting him and blaming Mac. If the team shows slopininess and lack of intensity this year, marred by penalties and even quitting late in the season.....the choice is clear.
Funny. The last time I checked the Jets were (by far) the league's least penalized team throughout 2015 & 2016 (combined) under coach Todd Bowles leadership. Yup. That's right. His Jets were the least penalized team during his first two year span. And even if you were to include 2017 (9th most) the Jets still rank top 5 amongst all NFL teams as one of the league's least penalized teams under Todd Bowles throughout his first three years as NFL head coach.
I don't get the need to be worried about trusting Mac. I think he's one of the most competent GMs this team has had in a while. He's not gonna be too splashy and ruin the salary cap like Tannenbaum, but he'll gladly make moves unlike Idzik. His background is scouting talent, so I don't see why there's an issue having him build around Darnold. He has a mixed bag of draft picks, but for the most part successful results especially compared to the Rex Ryan era. Mar Sanchez, Kyle Wilson, Mo Wilk, Quinton Coples, Dee Milliner, Sheldon Richardson, Calvin Pryor. My god. 2 of those 7 panned out, one faded after a couple years, the other had off the field issues. None are on the team right now. Leo Williams, Darron Lee, Jamal Adams, Sam Darnold He twice found aging Quarterbacks for next to nothing who had career years with this team. I don't worry about Macc. He's human, but I like what he has done.
To answer the OP's original question.... We don't have a choice but to trust Macc until another GM takes over if and when that happens.
The Mac bashing is absurd. This is how I have seen his tenure.... The guy came in and saw we had potential, brought players in to make a run (all short term contracts), and we did, we went 10-6 and just fell short of the playoffs. He structured contracts to easily get out of them. He then cut bait with a bunch of veteran Jets, and the media deemed the Jets were tanking. Decker, Marshall, Harris, Cromartie, Revis, Giacomini, Pryor, Clady. The only notable player still in this league is Marcus Gilchrist. These were all great moves. I'm not sure many GMs would be willing to do this. He's drafted BPA, evident in the Williams and Maye picks. That's how to have sustained winning in this league. He's had some misses, all teams do. Hackenberg was a huge bust, I'll give him a mulligan. Lee was valued as a mid-1st rounder, hasn't lived up to the expectations, that's often on the coaches and player, not exactly the GM. Smith had some bad injuries, that's just bad luck. He's also hit on value for Shell, Jenkins, Edwards. I think this 2018 draft has been his best with Shepherd, Herndon, Cannon, and obviously Darnold. He signed free agents without overspending (Trumaine Johnson was questionable, but is a huge upgrade). Sure he could have dished out monster contracts to get the best players this past free agency class, but he deemed their talent level/age/potential combination to not justify the pay. The perennial Super Bowl contending franchise don't overpay in Free Agency (Packers/Giants/Patriots/Steelers). That's a strategy that usually wins the off season but never translates to winning in the season (the Jaguars did that for years). Speaking of Darnold, he made a bold move to trade up to the 3rd pick, and I believe the Browns and Giants each made a huge mistake. Our o-line isn't great but it isn't terrible either. Almost every fan base complains about their line. We don't want Darnold to turn into Andrew Luck. Oh yeah, and we our #1 in cap room next year, at a projected $88M. With Darnold in place, we can now attract free agents, and don't have to overspend. I'm 30 years old and I have never seen the Jets future being so bright. I've seen smart drafting, good cap management, I've seen young players developing, a positive culture established, and a legit franchise QB that doesn't have red flags attached. This is also at at time where Brady is nearing (hopefully) the end of his career. And you want to get rid of Mac? Long rant, apologies, but I don't get how people can complain this year.
@Peebag 4 years to start? You think the rebuild started this year? Lol Superstar in the making? Jamal Adams, Leonard Williams. Name me teams with multiple "superstars" in the making? First of all, what do YOU consider a "superstar"? Second of all, you realize majority of teams have 1 or 2 players that become "superstars"? And that may be pushing it. And you expected winning 10 games the past two seasons? I sure as hell didn't. Not to mention many games we should have won if it weren't for dumb mistakes. So I'd say yeah, we were pretty competitive with the rosters we had
I will bet my account here at tgg he is here through the entire season. If he is fired midway through I will leave and never come back. If he doesn’t, you do the same. Please say yes
Nobody here is concerned that he has literally drafted no offensive players who have made an impact? That doesn't matter?
He brought in Robby Anderson, Kearse and Pryor. but that doesn't matter as they weren't draft picks? Guys like Cannon, Maguire, Herndon, Stewart are still wait and see, but may also contribute. I'm more concerned about neglecting O-line. Signings like Beachum, Carpenter, and Long were nice but we cannot fill entire line with FA's. Needs more depth.
Now wait a cotton picking minute,,,,,,,,personally I don't care when we move on from Uncle Todd , I wish we already had but that said THESE ARE the Jets we are talking about and NEVER say never so if they do fire this ass clown in mid season ( which I agree with you I do not think it would happen BUT ) -----> I cannot take that chance and I cannot have you AWOL ,especially if its related to Todd Freaking Bowels ( that would give me just another reason to dislike him ) while Joe and Johnny and all these other clowns are saying to me "HAHA what snow" so take that damn wager off the table as I want you on that wall with me I need you on that wall with me !!!!!!!!!
