im actually agreeing with DWC here, never thought I would say that. Eli made some plays throwing the ball down the field with no pass rush, but the defense did not break in the RZ. The only ineptness I saw was some drops by the receivers (not named Q, Robbie) and those damn penalties. Bowles will hold them accountable once he cuts start rolling in. A lot of the posts are knee jerk reactions per usual.
Pay attention and follow closely. PhillyStax primary point is that wins and losses in preseason don’t matter. Hence the pages and pages of googled records of who won games and who lost games in the preseason. Go back and look. Lists and lists of W-L records followed up by records in the regular season. There isn’t an adult fan alive that (i) gives a shit about wins or losses in preseason or (ii) equates success in the preseason with success in the regular season. The “knee jerk” reaction has to do with in game issues that may translate to the regular season. No one but a trolling Fin fan (or Rex) gives a crap about beating the Giants in the preseason. They care about seeing progress, execution, no fuck-ups. The tool can continue to trot out and quote Wikipedia W-L records from preseasons past but the critique here is about in game execution. Or lack thereof Not about meaningless wins or losses that no one cares about.
You know I'm not going to read everything he wrote, but he had a good point about the Eagles and Patriots games, they haven't looked great, especially the Eagles and their offense. I feel encouraged about where things are going. Look at the reactions from others, people are pissed off, like we lost 45-3 to the Patriots and they want to blow everything up. There's some strong knee jerk reaction posts today.
I dont think its "knee-jerk" if the reaction has been repeated every day for 7 years about no pass rush and bad ST play
I see we're in excuse mode already and the season hasn't even started. The W/L record does not matter BUT, execution does and this team once again didn't generate any PR, couldn't cover anyone and the ST's were abysmal. This team is not progressing or if it is, the improvement is almost imperceptible. Even if Bates did call a vanilla offense, I'm pretty sure the Giants didn't go too far into their playbook on defense either. Darnold looked good on that first drive. We have decent receivers but none of them will scare anyone. If things don't improve PDQ, I can easily see another 5-11 season and if that happens, all eyes have to be on Bowles. Preseason or not, the Jets showed they're still NOT a playoff caliber team yet. BTW, lets stop comparing the Jets to SB winners shall we? Those teams know how to win and have proven it. We can stop comparing the Jets to PO teams too while we're at it. Put the pipe down, pour out the Vodka laced green koolaid and stop with the excuses. It wasn't the refs last night, it was the Jets.
why so I can just get annoyed at the irrelevant parts? Sometimes you gotta do some selective reading. Paying attention to that is a waste of time, I am trying to "save" this thread.
The west coast offense is such a fuckin drag our playcalling is setting football back like twenty years
I used to save things as well, but then I realized garbage just needs to be taken to the curb and left to rot.
I'm not going to cry about a lack of pass rush when we're not throwing out exotic blitz packages. I won't complain about an O-Line that's yet to play our starting 5 together and I can't kill a defense that's yet to allow a TD through 3 games. Special teams was horrible but preseason gives you an opportunity to fix your mistakes ahead of time. Penalties were frustrating but it's hard to blame coaching on penalties when coaches, coach and players, play. I'm pretty sure when our DC/OC's or even Bowles designed the plays... "Committing penalties" were not "drawn up"... that's on the players. Last but not least, some fans simply do not understand. Outside of backups and players on the bubble, the regular key starters are simply doing one of 3 things 1.) Shaking off real-time rust 2.) Trying to avoid meaningless preseason injuries and 3.) Simply going through the motions. On offense we weren't even ground and pounding our power back in Isiah Crowell who just returned from a concussion. Why? Not worth it, during a meaningless preseason scrimmage. Heading into this years preseason if we were able to complete 4 games without any serious injuries... To any key starters... You consider it a major success heading into Detroit. We beat the Lions at full strength and this team has a real opportunity to start off the 2018 season @ 3-0. I guess some just have different expectations on the meaning of preseason games. To each our own.
Right on the playcalling is so vanilla it’s hard to really make any conclusions other than that I hope nobody gets hurt in this pathetic excuse for football
I'm just really excited how Darnold looks like a seasoned vet out there. He's able to quick strike to open men. Take off and run for a 1st. Throws the ball away without second thought and just looks awesome under Center and confident as a signal caller. Speaking of injuries. We have lost zero starters throughout the offseason consisting of OTA's, Training Camp, Practices and 3 full games of preseason thus far. Haven't the Pats lost their LT & prized RB rookie?
