How many touchdowns has the first team given up? I think the defense with virtually no talented pass-rusher has done a pretty decent job. Few big plays here and there, but the Jets defense hasn't been broken per say with the vanilla play calling. Bowles will need to hold players accountable and that will cause players to get cut more than likely. I think Bowles has handled the Sam situation perfectly and to be honest, the purpose of the preseason is to see how your team reacts in certain situations.
Bowles needs to understand our secondary doesn't have the make up speed to constantly go cover 0/1. Over committing to the run and trying to generate a pass rush through numbers instead of skill will be the death of this defense as the season goes on. This is far from the first season this has been an issue with our defensive play calling/player personnel.
I don't think the secondary lacks speed at all, but again the Jets do not have personnel to win with just 4 guys. They haven't even tried to address the pass rush position in 3 years. I do agree it's an issue, but again the preseason is the time to try these things out like playing man and leaving players on an island. I would like to see Adams play more then just an in-box safety as well. He's been playing the run a lot this preseason.
Our corners got beat so many times youd think they were red headed step children. Thankfully for us Eli continued to over throw them multiple times.
If the OL is facing a vanilla D and getting thrashed, what happens when they start seeing legitimate game plans and exotic blitzes? Vanilla means jack shit when it comes to protecting your quarterback. You can do it, or you can’t.
Believe it or not it works both ways. The blocking schemes/packages are often vanilla just as well.Gameplanning can make a huge difference in OL play. However i dont disagree that the OL unit is currently garbage
I know it works both ways, but I don’t believe a coach chooses to provide his FQB with less protection because it’s preseason. The Jets OL is exactly what it looks like.
Yeah Skrine and some others. Claiborne got beat that 1 play, but it's usually the same corners that get beat week in and week out
Trumaine was also beat deep on a few and morris was beat a few times also. We have no recovery speed outside we need 2 deep a majority of the time untill we can find a pass rush. This is a fact and Bowles needs to accept it. Had OBJ been on that field it would have been exploited a lot more than it was.
Agree with holding players and his coaches accountable. Touchdown or not the secondary is consistently destroyed with the persistent man to man schemes CS wants. The only thing more consistent than us getting burned with that approach is Bowles insistance to continue to scheme and game plan that way. He needs to change his schemes to match our talent level.
Tru has been beaten on rare occasions and should not be a cause for concern. Same with Claiborne. Maye is getting back to form and Adams is always around the ball. Bowles has his work cut out in terms of the pass rush. Jets regime has done a poor job in that department. OBJ is a top 3 receiver, you give Eli all day he will find them, but that's a pass rush issue not a secondary one. I'm not worried about the secondary.
Agreed on that, may need to play a little more zone and have creative blitz packages until the Jets find a way to win 1 on 1 matchups on the outside. Hopefully Mac is still on that phone. Shane Ray could be acquired I suppose
Yeah, maybe I wasn't clear on that. I did say at some point during my 50 posts in this thread if we had a pass rush this play style would not be an issue.
I disagree with your assessment of Darnold. He should be trying to play like he will during the season. Controlled passing hitting the open man. No need to force the ball when you can go through your progressions and find the open man. The WOW plays will come in due time. Good decision making outweighs taking chances & letting it fly at this point of his development
