Who the fuck would we want out of those ? Folk - history or some soulful reminiscing, awful game and time at Bucc's 80.3% 245 of 305 Murray - replaced Folk and then was released at Bucc's for the second time in his career 81.3% fg accuracy 40 of 49 Tavecchio - started with a bang on his debut, what was it 4 fg's ? then deteriorated and was released by the Raiders. 76.2% 16 of 21 Walsh - rapidly downgrading season on season, has looked good in the past but, last season at Minny was dire and he was worse at Seagulls 82.4% 154 0f 187 Surely there is better out there than this ? Forbath - 85.9% 116 of 135 Myers - 81% 64 of 79 So Forbath looking the best on flimsy stats at least lol
what's wrong with the kid they have doing the kicking so far in preseason? he puts them through the uprights and he would undoubtedly be cheap
huh? there are many good kickers. the league average is like 80 something percent and its the cheapest, most disposable position there is because if your current guy gets too expensive you just cut him and someone else comes in and makes 80 something percent
He's been terrible everywhere up until this preseason. Not a guy I'd want to put in a big spot. Regardless a kicker is going to sign for what, a year or two? For a mil tops? I'm not worried about a pricetag considering the amount of space we have going into next year.
Bring back Folk. He's 33 years old, not like that's all that old by kicker standards. Some of these guys play til they're in their 40s.
Not that this adds to the discussion - because it doesn't - but I re-watched Jets/Redskins the other night. It kinda struck me that some of these kickers are Lilliputians. Makes our old pothead John Hall look like Andre the Giant.
Surely there is a reason why Folk is still a FA tho... his time in Tampa left a sour taste for teams. Edit: Because that makes any sense lol...
80% at what, twenty yards? If there was confidence that 32 guys were doing the job there wouldn't be such a constant state of flux in the market.
No, 80% of all kicks attempted overall And no, there is a constant state of flux in the market because teams know there are so many good kickers they are disposable. If they hung onto guys forever and paid them so much, it would reflect a scarce market. Not the opposite
there is actually a good shortage of kickers in the NFL which is why players like viniteri and jankowski are in the league in their 40s. When the game is on the line and you need a 50 yard FG to win you won't want to blow it and lose the whole game because you cheaped out on a kicker. last year 9 teams had kickers at 90% or better 10 teams were under 80% the chargers were the worst at 66.7% the panthers the best at 96.7% that's a 30% difference so not all the same by any means. the chargers lost 30 points on missed FGs while the panthers only lost 3. 8 teams in the NFL had an average margin of less then 3 points 22 teams were less then 6 points deciding their games. those 1 or 2 missed FGs are huge especially in the NFL where 1 game difference is the difference between playoffs and sitting home for many teams
Myers has a very strong leg but has run into some XP issues for whatever reason. Don't like seeing that Other than a few hiccups in 2015, Forbath has been quite good since becoming a pro. He's made 47/53 kicks as a Viking the past two years. Can't argue much with that. But 5 missed xp's last year. Very weird. But who knows how many were blocked... I'd be fine with either. Leaning Forbath
And nothing against rookie kickers. Every great kicker was a rookie kicker at some point but I'd rather not live through any kicking game growing pains and just roll with some vet
I'm not sure myself. I thought he did a really good job. He went: 29/29 on extra points (100%). 6/6 from 20/29 (100%). 4/4 from 30/39 (100%). 2/2 from 50+ yards out (100%). The only misses he had were from 40/49 yards out and went 12 out of 17 (70.5%). He was damn near flawless on the road. Only missed 1 FG on the road (week 16 @ N.E went 2/3). His other 4 misses were at home but imo kicking within both of the cold and wind of the Meadowlands is never an easy task for any FG Kicker to begin with. He went 83.3% on the year and also kicked a 57-yard field goal, the longest in Jets franchise history (but now we're scrambling for a FG Kicker)? So, no; at the age of only 27 I'm really not sure why he wasn't brought back. The guy had a good year for us.
They obviously offered him cheap terms which he turned down, as is his prerogative, the reason folk was cut, it seems they have a price for a kicker and if he out prices their figure then it is goodbye. Who was the young kicker that looked good through 2 preseasons but didn't get the job?
Taylor Bertolet. He went 1/1 against Atlanta (45 yards out) and 2/2 on extra points. He went 2/2 @ Washington (21 & 36 yards out) and 1/1 on extra points. So yea, Taylor Bertolet has gone 3/3 on FG's with makes of 21, 36 & 45 yards out and 3/3 on extra point conversions thus far. He's still on our team. He hasn't been released/cut. Still an active player. Taylor Bertolet only going 37/56 (66.1%) throughout his college career does scare me but maybe NCJetsfan is right, and he's improved since then.
