I still have no idea why we did not attempt to keep Nick Folk long term.

He was one of, if not the best FG Kicker this Franchise has ever had.

He ranks second on our Franchise’s all-time list in points scored (729), he's second in field goals made (175) and first in field goal percentage (81.3).

And should have never been released after coming off of 2016's season 27 made FG's out of 31 FG attempts (87.0%).

Yes, i understand that he had a bad game with Tampa Bay against N.E last year (2017) and was thereafter released...

But he's currently a Free Agent and as the Jets All-Time leading leader in FG accuracy percentage; he should be brought back as a Jet for our 2018 season. The dude was money for us.

He was a cap casualty for some dumbass reason. He was owed like $2m and we got rid of him...

The rookie we have has looked pretty good. Not sure why we have to have him beat out 1000 other kickers to win the job. Let's roll with the new guy

He wasn't kept because he was due to make a lot of money and that made no sense on a rebuilding team that was shedding veterans and looking to gain cap space. It's that simple.

Well imo 3 million isn't a lot for a FG Kicker who was A.) Your best FG Kicker in Franchise history and B.) Coming off an outstanding season.

Nick Folk should be a 2018 Jet. He needs to be brought back. Just my opinion.

If the Jets had been likely to be a contender, I'm sure that they would have kept him. I always liked Folk, but could totally understand why they didn't bring him back then. I'd be happy for him to be brought back now, but would also be happy just rolling with Bertolet. He's done nothing that we know of to have not won a spot on the team. He can't help it if he has little experience. All he needs is someone to give him a chance.

Taylor Bertolet? Hah. I don't know about that one.

Because he was undrafted in 2016 and absolutely sucked in college during his 3/4 year career with Texas A&M while only going 37/56 (66.1%).

    To make it even worse?

He was signed by the Rams as an undrafted FA (2016) on May 4, 2016 and on August 30, 2016 he was released by the Rams.

    And then?

On March 21, 2018, he signed with the Denver Broncos and on April 30, 2018, he was waived by the Broncos.

I'm not sure about you, but I'm not comfortable or even o.k with him becoming our NYJ's sacrificial lamb and/or guinea pig for our upcoming 2018 season.

Mike Maccagnan needs to have Nick Folk on speed dial before the end of preseason.

    Great thread title, @MoProblems96! :D

Hopefully one of these guys works out. Kai Forbath would be a solid signing. He isn't great, but he isn't horrible either. I feel bad for Santos.

Oh I forgot. Just because he sucked in college, he could never improve and be good in the NFL. That never happens. :rolleyes:o_O

Why aren't there more good kickers around? Millions of little kids have been playing soccer in the US for decades now and we still can't produce a few dozen reliable kickers? Maybe none of them excel because they all get an award just for showing up every week.

Well. Obviously both the Rams and Denver (both) released him after not wanting anything to do with him.

And please find me 5 former NCAA kickers who were worse than 37/56 and/or 66.1% and whom later on became a successful and trusted NFL FG Kicker(s).

    I'll be waiting.

It's just funny and hypocritical how you state "he could never improve and be good in the NFL. That never happens" (within a sarcastic way) but yet you continue harping over the fact that "Fowler Jr. is nothing more than a backup situational pass rusher" as if he can't become a full time starter and a furure All-Pro. As if "that never happens".

You see what I did there? Do you not see, what you do? You'll literally type out anything to "fit your agenda".

Back to the topic of discussion. Your little FG Kicker in Taylor Bertolet sucked in college only going 37/56 (66.1%) and couldn't even stick on either of the Rams nor Denver's practice squad(s). Yea. Right. I'm sure he'll become a good one .

It usually the vets that get signed because there's (supposedly) less chance of the them shitting the bed in a high pressure situation. I don't know what the average K age is in the NFL but I'll bet it's the oldest position on the roster.

When was the last time we rolled with a rookie kicker? Nugent?

Guy, your reasoning skills are sadly lacking. There's nothing hypocritical in my stances. According to camp reports and preseason games, Bertolet has been very good. I think he's only missed a few kicks. He HAS improved.

Yes, not only can Fowler improve, but he did last season over previous seasons. The bottom line is that he still hasn't been a starter, so there would be some risk involved in his learning to play standing up, playing versus the run, setting the edge, and dropping into coverage. With his athletic skill, could he do it? Definitely. Will he be able to or will he work hard enough to do it? That's another question entirely. If he didn't have the character and off-field concerns, I'd be more inclined to take the risk since the Jets don't have anyone at OLB with his talent. The problem is that he does have off-field concerns and seems to have real temper issues or is a head case. I don't players like that on the Jets. I could care less how talented they are. Now if Mac can determine that his off-field issues are an aberration and he doesn't have temper issues, then I'd be more willing to give him a shot, but he still has some issues since he just got in a fight with a teammate, so I would be against trading anything over a conditional 4th round pick for him. We don't need a repeat of the Ik Enemkpali/Geno Smith scenario. The fact that the Jaguars are giving up on him, speaks volumes, and the fact is they ARE giving on him. You can ignore that all you want, and talk about his talent, and daydream about sharing a niece with him or whatever, but you're just ignoring reality.

I certainly am not gonna trade Teddy, one of my favorite players in the NFL for a head case.
