McCown is definitely better than either Davis or Schaub, and already knows the system. Why would we downgrade?
Early, Meaning for us fans to discuss. We don't work for the Jets. I wish we did! Of course they are. Pre-Season Game 3 is coming this Friday. Giants-Jets. That is what we should mostly be discussing and potential roster moves before the season. January will be here soon enough, where we will have nothing to discuss but threads like this. Nothing wrong with thinking ahead though, especially when the future is looking bright.
Heck, we had Brunell backing up Sanchez at age, what, 41? So, why not McCown? Looks to be in damn good shape.
He is currently making $10 million. If he signed next year for $2 million he would be taking an $8 million pay cut to play for the Jets. 10 - 2 = 8.
I doubt the Jets are concerned about this now. There will likely be a veteran backup who can be signed for peanuts. The more important question, IMO, is who's gonna protect Darnold's blindside in 2019? This is why I'm weary of giving up next year's first rounder.
That's news to me. Beecause Josh freaking McCown is not better than Matt Schaub. ________________________________________ Matt Schaub is a 2x Pro Bowler, has a career winning record of 47-45 (.510%), a completion percentage of 63.9% (7.6 yards per pass attempt) and 133 TD's compared to 90 INT's (1.4 TD to INT ratio) along with a career QB Rating of 89.1. Vs. Josh McCown is a 0x Pro Bowler, has a career (losing) record of 23-50 (.277%), a completion percentage of 60.4% (6.8 yards per pass attempt) and 97 TD's compared to 78 INT's (1.2 TD to INT ratio) along with a career QB Rating of 80.8. ________________________________________ In what world has McCown ever been "better than" Schaub? I'd seriously like to know. McCown's 2017 season was fools-gold (as was Fitzpatrick's 2015 season) but nonetheless there aren't many QB's that Josh McCown has ever been "better than"; and Matt Schaub definitely isn't one of them (also two years younger than McCown).
most likely someone who isn't on the roster right now. I think we'll sign some veteran back-up and maybe draft one way late as a 3rd string
Yawn, another guy throwing out Wins as if it's an individual stat, and not a team result. Just Last year, McCown was a top 15 STARTER in this league, throwing over 67% completion rate and 2:1 TD:INT ratio.......and that's with arguably the worst offensive talent in the league. Last time Schaub saw any time as a starter, he was giving out pick 6's like they were candy, and was playing on a good team. To argue that Schaub is a better option than McCown is a joke.
It's not a pay cut, as he's currently set to earn $0 in 2019. It would be a brand new contract based on new circumstance. Last season he had a solid year, and was being paid to return as the incumbent with a high likelihood of starting games, in addition to tutoring a young QB. So he was paid accordingly. 2019, now that Darnold is here, and has presumably taken the starting role, McCown would simply be a backup. Quality backups get around 5M now, so that would be his new market range. We aren't getting any vet worth anything for 2M.
"Throwing out wins"? Funny. I guess the facts of Schaub having 2 pro bowl selections along with also having a better career completion percentage, a better career yards per attempt, a better career TD to INT ratio along with a better career QB Rating (along with, WINS) all went over your head. "Throwing out wins". That was funny. To ignore Schaub's and McCown's complete NFL body of work because of "oh my God" ONE 2017 season is absolutely hilarious. Josh McCown's 2017 season (as was Shitztragic's 2015 season) was nothing more than "fools gold". You talking up Josh McCown heading into 2018 reminds me the fans talking up Ryan Fitzpatrick heading into 2016. Fools gold. But to actually sit here and say that Josh McCown has been a "better" NFL QB when in comparison to that of Matt Schaub is the opposite of the truth. It's false.
Schaub has been done in this league since 2013, while McCown is still throwing near 70% in this offense.. If you wanted to have this argument 7 years ago, you'd probably have a good point. But right now it's not even close. Honestly digging up career stats (and wins as if they they are QB stats) when we are talking about 2019 is so far off the mark, it's not even worth arguing.
Agree with what your saying. However, wouldn’t use our handling of SANCHEZ as evidence in a court of Jets law. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Clearly Schaub has had a MUCH better career and a few years there he was top 5 in the league. But those years skew career numbers. He’s been trash for about 5 years running. McCown has never been really good but RIGHT NOW he’s probably a better QB and clearly a better fit for the Jets. Josh McCown was also never as good as Johnny Unitas. But he’s a better QB now.
