Good call. I'm more of a "liker" than a hater but I'm also kind of hoping Bowles takes a step forward as a coach this season. Both for the good of the Jets as well as because I'm rooting for him. I'm not expecting a fantastic W-L record this season but I am really hopeful that the Jets are taking big time steps forward and hopefully coach Bowles will be part of the ultimate solution and sustained success around here.
I am inclined to agree..I think the kid knows his weaknessses and can improve on them (he has Jordan Palmer who he hired to help him) As I posted a month ago, Sam has to learn how to flourish on his own.. He can't rely on the nincompoops around him, or the FO or the CS
Just please, don't kill him, or break his spirit with foolishness....get him enough weapons and protection on offense to make you all happy and winners. Jets fans deserve it.
I think that is the more likely thing to happen, but I'm still gonna root for him as it would be better for the team if he learned and grew rather than replacing him and starting all over.
Washington’s secondary blanketed the Jets receivers. Their d-line owned the Jets o-line (with two backups). The 4th and 1 Call was a bad one and Washington had the perfect defense called. No one was open, no where to run. Darnold did the only thing he could (force the ball), if he threw it away people would have been saying that he needs to understand game situations better + you can’t throw it away in that situation... I didn’t show up on the stat sheet, but I thought he played fine.
+1 I'd rather he try and make a play, recognize a INT is no worse than a TO on downs and at least gives you a chance over a OB throw. Also glad to see he's thinking of the team and trying to make it happen over being safe and protecting his stats as we know some QBs are overly concerned with
This is bothersome to me as well but I’m hoping that has more to do with coaching and bringing him along slowly than anything else. Hopefully we get to see him open it up a bit on Saturday.
Did you still not read and just decide to spew nonsense? My entire post was about how people have said Darnold had regressed but I didn't agree. Try using that big brain of yours sometime, and read.
Media does make a good point that it's all Tom Brady does. Anyways, he has no protection and it's the preseason conservative gameplan to minimize his turnover potential.
The whiners who are wondering if Darnold regressed. Some selfish fans are half rooting against our guy to make them feel like they were right. Either that or they're clueless. Nothing about what he put on tape said he regressed.
I don’t see a single person rooting against him. I see people severely overreacting but that happens with literally everything this franchise does.
I had no issue with him throwing a pick on 4th and 1. it was fine to try and make a play.... i do think he could have tried to force it elsewhere but again, that is minor. i do disagree that you should always try and force it. worst case scenario is NOT a loss of downs. you turn it over on a pick you could be giving up 6 points or a ton of field position on a return. so if you force it, best to force it downfield or stay away from the sidelines. people are WAY overreacting an knee-jerking to preaseason. its like 5 quarters of football vs. alot of guys who wont even be on teams in 2 weeks in games coaches dont care about winning. lets see what happens in real games that matter, and over a bigger sample size. Darnold seems to have good presence, and accuracy within the short game. thats encouraging. lets see what happens when he gets hit, when a team game plans for him. when his team is down or the run game is taken away. when his receivers drop balls or run wrong routes, when weather is bad. lets wait for that before calling him a savior or any regression talk
only criticism i can even nitpick on 4th and one was not taking the shot down the field, which may have been closer to a 50/50 ball but given pressure thats REALLY nit picking it
