2nd down on the first drive... Steps up to avoid the rush and then heaves it out of bounds to keep it third and manageable.
All GREAT QBs have weaknesses eg Brady can't operate with a heavy pass rush or take too many hits What we see from SD is what plagued him in college eg throws interceptions at inopportune moments This is what got me squarely on the Mayfield bandwagon and Darnold my # 2 wish in the last draft That said ..I am firmly convinced Darnold will be or 15 year STUD given his learning curve/smarts..but even with that: Here's a scenario: Let's say the Jets are beating the pants off the Jags in playoff action and have a 14 point lead in middle off 4th qtr 7 minutes to go..Jags pressure Darnold bad, and he heaves the ball a little off and Jacksonville intercepts...leads to pick 6 or Bortles gets them a TD... Jets have 7 point lead with 4 minutes to go..Sam redeems himself just misses a bomb to Anderson but the Jets come away with a FG..now 10 points up and about 3 min to go Jacks make a noble effort but our D comes up big with a 4th and 2 stop at 50 yard line Something like that could easily happen..but Il take the WIN and all the rest of them if Darnold gets us to the playoffs!
Exactly what int are you referring to ? The one on 4th down where he had ,I repeat, had to try to make a play? Holy shit this an incredibly bad post, even by your standards.
omg, moderator, just please lock this thread. I didn't even bother reading the OP's inane reasoning. AFTER 2 PRESEASON GAMES we now have posters saying the word regressed? LMAO I think i would rather stick needles in my eyes than to read this nonsense.
You know, you may be a real decent guy, have a sweet mother, support a good family with 3 kids, play poker with your buddies on weekends, escort elderly people across busy city streets , even was a boy scout at some point....but writing/starting threads like these......your a f$king idiot, LOLOLOL.
Jets fans have a severe case of battered fan syndrome.....other than that, typical men and their propensity to act like crazed lunatics when it concerns their sports. Entertaining.
The past 2 or 3 days are exactly why I think it’s going to take a personality like Darnold’s to break our QB drought. There’s been so much negativity surrounding a PRESEASON game in which he threw 3 incomplete passes. Our QBs get scrutinized to such a ridiculous level that mental toughness is going to be more important than physical ability. I think Sam has what Sanchez and Geno didn’t, and frankly I don’t think he cares what anyone is saying about him.
Compare that to Sanchez. Maybe the QBs that can't read defenses or stare down the receiver until they throw to him need more time to process what they see instead of making a decision in like one or two seconds which a lot of times is all the time you get in the NFL. If you cannot process what you see in a second or two and decide whether to throw the ball or not you won't have enough time to look at your second or third option. And then you're left with staring the receiver until you throw to him or throw it away if the receiver is not open. And then people talk about how the QB didn't see another receiver that was wide open.
He definitely doesn't care. I don't care either. I am with you, since the game Thursday people have been ridiculous. Funny, watching Sam up close and how he handled everything, I walked away so impressed and excited for his future. Then I log on here and people have said some of the dumbest stuff I have read in awhile. There is no patience with New York fans and media either. That is the main problem. Sam threw an INT on 4th down? He didn't throw 4 TD's or look like Aaron Rodgers instantly? Start Teddy!!!!!!!!!!!
I've seen criticism of Darnold's decision and of the play call, but not one comment about Bowles going for it rather than kicking a FG. It was a preseason game, so Bowles probably didn't care as much about the win as giving Darnold an opportunity and seeing what happened, but I hope that it's a sign that he will be more aggressive this season. I have been one of Bowles harshest critics, but I have seen some signs of improvement and the players seem to love him and believe in him. I'm rooting for Bowles as much this season as I am Darnold and the other young players on the Jets. IMO it would be best if he worked out so we don't have to start all over next season with possibly new offensive and defensive systems, which could mean that even more roster turnover has to happen.
1. The play design on a 4th and ONE----repeat: 4th and ONE----called for Lawrence Thomas, a slow-as-shit 285 lb. converted defensive lineman acting as a FB to beat a much-quicker LB out into the flat; Redskins' LB immediately erased him out of the play. 2. Freeze the above clip at 0:12: Redskins in man, Robbie Anderson the inside slot receiver runs a rub for Jerome Kearse's man except that the SS (#22) who was keying on Bilal Powell (who was occupied throwing a great block) slides over and fronts Kearse. Also note at 0:12: lead-footed klutz Brent Qvale (playing LT!!) is already beat badly as is Brandon Shell giving up the edge on the right side. Lawrence Thomas is no threat and should not be on the field on a passing play....including one with weak play action. Darnold immediately see's Lawrence Thomas is blanketed and from there the play goes to hell. Had Qvale and Shell given Darnold a cleaner pocket he could've taken a shot downfield with Anderson. Shit personnel package (Thomas) on that play design. EDIT: THIS IS SCARY: check out Brett Qvale at 0:23 FQB with this stumblebum?.....scary (open then click on the YouTube link / 0:23 sec. mark). .
I'm rooting for Bowles to finally remove all doubt and expose himself as not qualified to pilot the plane.
I’m going to start a “has Darnold regressed” thread after every series, hell maybe even every play. If we aren’t going to judge regression over large bodies of work and instead look at it minutely from game to game, why not do so series to series or play to play. They are only slightly more asinine than game by game.
