Because its not what WE as fans want, its gonna be up to Teddy if he wants to stay or move on. The Jets clearly are ready to hand the team over to Darnold as soon as possible if for no other reason than the PR value. TB signed here as simply a means to an end and that is, play again in the NFL and start.
Keep him. Forget the second rounder. Honestly I am not ready to get rid of a good QB for a 2nd rounder. I know we want Darnold to be the franchise guy but until he proves he is the franchise guy keep Teddy with the Jets and look for ways to extend him.
Absolute nonsense. Your logic is an epic fail. To say that we should never have drafted Sam Darnold because we were going to keep Teddy is absolutely ridiculous. There's no reason to rush to trading Teddy. The longer we keep him, more likely the more we'll get for him. We could easily wind up needing him this year if Darnold (God forbid!) or McCown go down with a serious injury. No one's saying that he'll stay long term, but we've only played one preseason game. The trading deadline is at least a month or two away. A lot can happen before then. While we won't keep him long term, we can keep him for a while, and if an injury happens, we may even need to keep him for the season and then just let him walk and get nothing in return. Conversely, if we keep him for another month or so and another team's starting QB goes down with a season-ending injury, we could wind up with a 2nd round pick at a minimum and maybe even a 1st round pick, whereas if we trade him now, we'd probably be lucky to get a 4th round pick.
If you saw the Giants backup QB play last Thursday you wouldn't say it is too early. The Giants will be in deep shit if Manning goes down. Teddy would be an excellent option to backup Manning & IMO better than Manning & much younger.
When I talk about trading Teddy, I don't mean to push for a trade tomorrow, but accept calls and let the buyers come to you. This will give you more leverage and get the most out of the trade. The market for Teddy will dictate for itself when the time comes & how desperate a team is will determine his value.
Yes, I know you do. My response was to another poster who said that we can't even keep him for a while, that we need to trade him now.
I see all of these points I made went right over your head. As in. He's here on a 1 year deal and is to be used as trade bait in order to receive assets in order to build around Sam Darnold. Um. Who said anything about "not keeping him up until the trade deadline"? Not i (and you'll see below). What's so hard to understand? Sam Darnold is our Franchise hopeful and one we traded up to 3rd overall to draft. Not Teddy Bridgewater. He's here as trade bait. Plain and simple. Maccagnan will look to trade Teddy Bridgewater for the best offer and rightfully so. Anyone who feels different is naive if you think that A.) Maccagnan has any future plans for Bridgewater a Jet after the drafting of Sam Darnold and/or B.) Teddy Bridgewater has any future dreams of playing for the Jets after the trade up for & drafting of Sam Darnold. And that's just the reality of it all. In a perfect/fantasy world Teddy agrees to an extension with NYJ. But I'm talking reality here. And The NYJ book was closed on Bridgewater the moment Sam was drafted. The ONLY Bridgewater plan for Maccagnan is to pray to God that Teddy Bridgewater continues to look awesome throughout the remainder of our preseason in order to create a buzz around Bridgewater's name in order to come up with a sign and trade to another team while gaining assets for next year's draft in order to BUILD AROUND SAM DARNOLD . P.S: I was being sarcastic when stating we should have never drafted Darnold if Bridgewater were some type of long term option. For the fans too naive to understand he's here as trade bait and has zero intentions of staying in N.Y after Darnold's arrival. Teddy is gambling on himself. He's not a Jets fan. He's not loyal to this franchise and he has zero desire of staying here past 2018. Darnold: Franchise. McCown: Mentor. Bridgewater: 2018 Trade Bait. It's really not hard to understand.
The QB is so important I just wouldn't be in a big hurry to quickly trade away Bridgewater. I hate to even raise the specter but the reality is we may need him. I love McCown and Darnold both but the harsh reality is that when you start talking about young rookies and 39 year olds in the NFL things can go really bad really quick. Also all this theory that he's not loyal to the franchise, doesn't want to be here, its not hard to understand and all that.... I'm not so sure. If I'm Teddy Bridgewater why exactly am I in such a hurry to bolt? I might be looking at a pretty plush long term gig here. I already almost died on the field once in my short career. Caddying the future star QB at what appears might be the start of something really special here.... why wouldn't I want to at least strongly consider being in on that? And what exact franchise(s) AM I so loyal to out there? And why didn't I sign with them a couple months ago? And if I'm the Jets I got to think Teddy is an absolute dream scenario to have. A proven solid NFL QB that knows what he's doing and he's perfect for the job. He is literally as good as you can possibly be without crossing the line where your "too" good and start a QB controversy. He also seems to be very team oriented. I don't know. I'll admit I'm just a fan and maybe its kumbaya but if I were the Jets I'd be trying to feel out Bridgewater's agent to see if there is any interest and if there is get out your moth-crusted wallet and scrape out as much as possible to make him comfortable and happy to be here long term. Chances are close to 100% Darnold will miss at least a little time at some point and what a luxury to have Bridgewater on hand instead of god knows what.... the crap that's been populating our roster for the last who knows how many years. I'd rather overpay Bridgewater a little and not need him than have Darnold go down and turn to Kellen Clemens, Hackenburg, Geno Smith, Fitzpatrick, or Bryce Petty types. If your trying to rely on them then your ***ked. THAT is what isn't hard to understand. So if there is a way to avoid that I say at LEAST lets explore it. If Bridgewater isn't interested then god bless him. But at least you tried.
Teddy Bridgewater is not a Jet fan. He was a former first round pick, a former pro bowler, led his team to the playoffs. He's going to want a starting gig, not some long term comfortable back up job.
Oh my was that a train wreck..Watching Lynch look that horrible after i wanted him so badly in 16 is quite humbling. Denver has some quality RBs as well as pass rushers.I could see there being some common ground however i cant see Denver giving up much draft capital unless they truly believe they are a QB away from legit contention Jax w Fowler remaining unsigned & appearing not be in the future makes a ton of sense..That’d come alot cheaper than Mack..and if we really wanna get crazy we could trade for Fowler IN ADDITION to Mack. That would be something to behold..I think the rest of LB corps has finally been sorted out. That whole unit looked stout & athletic against Atlanta.
I was listening to national radio this morning, they had some insider from Yahoo sports on and they asked him if Bridgewater would be on the Jets opening day roster. he said NO. don't count on it. He said he knows they are shopping him around and they will use the preseason to showcase his talents and before opening day they will flop him for "something like a 4th round pick." this guy then proceeded to say what a genius move that will be for the Jets when that happens. trading a guy no one wanted just a couple months ago for a 4th round pick. take it for what its worth
realize i'm in the minority but i would start bridgewater the first half of the season. let darnold come in the second half of the year.... kinda wish we signed him for 2 years and not one.
McCown is likely close (very close) to retirement so the Jets may want to keep Teddy as a backup to Darnold. By the way, Darnold is better than Hackenberg.
Yes but I don't think the Jets are looking to save the Giants season if Eli gets creamed, lol.. Imagine the irony : Giants pass on Sam Darnold and has to then consider a QB from the Jets that may be expendable because of this? It's stuff Jet's fan dreams are made of.
Folks. What is the hurry all of the sudden. If Darnold continues at this pace he will inherit the reigns soon enough. But the longer we hold on to Teddy the more valuable a commodity he becomes. So we must continue to showcase his talents and hope that Darnold grows into the job. If they both shine that is the best case scenario for us. That would be a massive win win for us. A lot can happen in four weeks that can totally raise his value to new heights. Or God forbid something happens that will require for us to keep him the whole year due to injuries. Relax and enjoy the ride. Mac looks pretty damned savvy right about now.
Dude, you need to get a grip. You didn't make any points. YOU did in post #15 of this thread. See below for your exact words! It's not a matter of understanding, but if anything, you are the one who doesn't understand. Teddy was signed before the draft. There were no guarantees that we'd get Darnold or that the QB we wound up drafting would develop. Saying that Mac brought in Teddy solely as trade bait is absurd. He wasn't signed after we drafted Darnold. Teddy was probably brought in as insurance in case we didn't get Darnold or Mayfield or the QB we got didn't develop quickly. He was also probably signed because the team needed 3 QBs and McCown is 39 and has an injury history. He was also probably brought in to help mentor the rookie they drafted. For you to say he was brought in solely as trade bait is simply laughable. You don't know everything even though you obviously think you do. NONE of us knows the exact reasons Mac signed Teddy or what he was thinking. All we can do is guess. You're making a straw man argument here. No one is suggesting that Teddy is likely to be here long term. Several of us love Teddy and would love it if he could stay, but with the way Darnold is developing and playing, that's not gonna happen, unless Teddy decides to just be happy being a backup QB on the Jets, which I don't think would happen, nor would I want it to. He deserves to be starting for some team in the NFL. Still, perish the thought but what if Darnold went down with a career-ending injury before Teddy was traded? Do you think Mac would still trade him? So to say that the NYJ book was closed on Teddy the moment Sam was drafted is BS. Every other team's QBs could stay healthy and perform to their satisfaction and no team could make Mac a decent trade offer. Mac isn't gonna give him away for a 6th round pick. Teddy could also wind up starting the season for the Jets this season. If he does, and the team starts out 5-0, do you seriously think Mac would trade Teddy if he wasn't offered at least a 2nd round pick, if at all? Getting a draft pick for Teddy isn't the only consideration. The Jets need 3 QBs for the season, especially with their OL being questionable and McCown's age and injury history. Mac might be perfectly happy to keep Teddy for the entire season and then let him walk next season and get nothing further from him.
He's still young, was a 1st rounder and yes he's definitely looking to come full circle and return to a starting role. For now however while the Jets have him why not just sit tight and let's see how this plays out---Jets have only played one game (Teddy with 2 drives, Sam in limited action including the coaches deciding to sit on a 4th quarter lead against 3rd stringers). I remember this other guy who loved Bridgewater too--maybe even more than you. Check out what this kook said about Teddy: http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/i-want-teddy-bridgewater.79945/#post-2918102 @ those who brought up the Giants: wouldn't be surprised if Laulatta takes over the backup-to-Eli role from Davis Webb who still looks like hot garbage in lead boots. .
