If Rutgers wins they will win the Big East and get a BCS bowl. I don't think they will win. West Virginia will be difficult to defeat at night in Morgantown. Matt Hayes of The Sporting News wrote this in the summer: The Mountaineers lead the series, 27-4-2. West Virginia has outscored Rutgers, 1036-400. 2005- West Virginia 27-14 2004- West Virginia 35-30 2003- West Virginia 34-19 2002- West Virginia 40-0 2001- West Virginia 80-7 2000- West Virginia 31-24 1999- West Virginia 62-16 1998- West Virginia 28-14 1997- West Virginia 48-0 1996- West Virginia 55-14 1995- West Virginia 59-26 1994- Rutgers 17-12 1993- West Virginia 58-22 1992- Rutgers 13-9 1991- West Virginia 28-3 1990- West Virginia 28-3 1989- West Virginia 21-20 1988- West Virginia 35-25 1987- West Virginia 37-13 1986- West Virginia 24-17 1985- West Virginia 27-0 1984- Rutgers 23-19 1983- West Virginia 35-7 1982- West Virginia 44-17 1981- West Virginia 20-3 1980- West Virginia 24-15 1923- West Virginia 27-7 1922- West Virginia 28-0 1921- Rutgers 17-7 1920- West Virginia 17-0 1919- West Virginia 30-7 1917- TIE 7-7 1916- TIE 0-0 I will watch this game but will be without computer access till maybe Sunday afternoon, so I won't be commenting here right after the game, win or lose.
http://www.msnsportsnet.com/page.cfm?story=10179&cat=exclusives Countdown to Kickoff By John Antonik for MSNsportsNET.com December 1, 2006 MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia (9-2, 4-2) plays host to Rutgers (10-1, 5-1) on Saturday night in Morgantown with BCS bowl implications on the line for the Scarlet Knights. A Rutgers victory over the Mountaineers would give it a share of the conference championship and the league’s BCS bid by owning the tiebreaker over Louisville. West Virginia’s bowl possibilities still include the Gator, Sun and Houston bowls. The game will be televised by ESPN (Mark Jones, David Norrie and Stacey Dales). Kick off is set for 7:45. Here is the West Virginia-Rutgers Countdown to Kickoff: 10 – West Virginia ranks TENTH in the nation in passing efficiency with a 157.56 rating. 9 – The Mountaineers have had NINE touchdown runs of 45 yards or longer this year. Running back Steve Slaton has five of those and quarterback Patrick White has the other four. 8 – This season represents the 30th time in school history West Virginia has won at least EIGHT football games in a season. Twenty times the Mountaineers have gone to bowl games when winning at least eight victories with another bowl invitation expected this year. 7 – West Virginia has scored 40 points or more in SEVEN of 11 games so far this year. The highest scoring output was 52 points against Eastern Washington on Sept. 9. 6 – Steve Slaton and Patrick White have combined for SIX 200-yard rushing games in their two-year careers. They became just the third duo in NCAA history to run for more than 200 yards in the same game when they did it at Pitt on Nov. 16. 5 – Patrick White ranks FIFTH in career rushing touchdowns at West Virginia with 24. Steve Slaton is fourth with 31. 4 – Patrick White has run for FOUR touchdowns twice this season against Syracuse and Louisville. 3 – West Virginia has won 28 games during the last THREE years (28-6) – the best three-year mark in school history. 2 – Steve Slaton ranks SECOND nationally in rushing averaging 147.4 yards per game. As a team, the Mountaineers also rank SECOND nationally in rushing. 1 – Rutgers is looking for its FIRST-ever win against West Virginia in Morgantown. All four Rutgers wins in the series have come in New Jersey. Enjoy Saturday’s game and be sure to stop back afterward for complete post-game coverage.
Morgantown will be rocking tonight. Good luck to the Scarlet Knights. With the loss last week, I expect WVU to rebound. If Rutgers wins, it will be a close one for sure.
ah god. what did teel have to do! put it in his pocket. that ball has to be be caought. any who....GO RU!
Big kick right here.... make it to force another OT, miss it and lose. Thats tough SPLITS THE UPRIGHTS, Double Over Time
I'm not being an asshole...But in recent years did you ever claim Rutgers to be your team? Or because they were good this year, you jumped on the wagon. Just an honest question. Louisville wins the Big East.
What happened to all the Rutgers fans that were here three weeks ago? I'm very surprised by this thread. I thought I was going to see two or three pages here, that this would be like a game thread. I realize it was a Saturday night and lots of posters were probably out, but I still expected a little more activity. It was possibly the best college football game of 2006. Louisville was the best team in the Big East this year followed by West Virginia, Rutgers, and then South Florida.
