Well, you won't find a NJ compliant AR-15 in FL. As I said quite a few times already, you won't be able to buy ANY firearm from a Florida FFL without a Florida driver's license. Private sellers are a different matter but we were not talking about private sellers.
The majority of guns, almost 60%, used in the commission of a crime in Chicago come from out of state.
"The overwhelming number of those guns flow into Illinois from states that have much less restrictive gun laws." Wouldn't it be nice if those states had laws that prevented this kind of thing instead of being so lax anyone can buy a gun?
That's not what I meant. Stopping straw sales isn't going to stop the vast majority of gun crime. Limiting the amount of guns in circulation legally is.
How do we do that though without restricting the rights of law abiding citizens? Realistically you are right. It's the only way that will actually work but for some reason, it's not practical in America.

Funny you should post this. I also read a couple of days ago as well that the investigation is closed and one of the possible "motives" - even though there really isn't one - was that according to his wife he became a germophobe who couldn't get an erection. How did helping him unload magazines and getting tons of guns delivered to the door - all of which he would send her inside the house and open in the garage and not allow her to see - did she not see as odd? He was not "collecting" guns. He was stockpiling. Here's my take. He felt impotent about being impotent, got increasingly paranoid about things, and he mowed people down over said impotence and feeling impotent over being impotent. What better way to assert your dominance and anger about a dick that doesn't work than shooting innocent people to death? I said it a few hundred pages back: part of the power trip was to leave no culpable reason behind. I'm also not sure how "no brain abnormalities" were found in a brain that was probably a bowl of jelly in what was left of his skull. Maybe they squashed his brain through brain pudding at autopsy, who is to say. Angry loner with paranoid tendencies who couldn't get it up, must punish others over it; and when the FBI releases their "psychopathology" results at some juncture - without a clear motive and that's their conclusion - king me.
So after all this time they cannot come up with motive or why he did this ? Maybe they know why this happened and just will not say ? There are far too many lose ends and unexplainable events in this entire sad tragedy.
How about he was just batshit crazy as rationale... I'm not real sure it's more complicated than that.. Something set him off and whatever that was, it really doesn't matter anymore as it won't bring back any of the victims and at most, perhaps provide another signpost to Crazytown.
Downloadable guns is a game-changer. Not sure where the dust settles here but regulation of firearms with the intent to keep them out of criminal hands is a no-go moving forward. Also the ability to regulate more advanced firearms is likely rapidly disappearing also. I think usage laws are going to have to replace control laws and many more people who shoot somebody else are going to have to be evaluated as criminals. That's a dog race that very few law-abiding citizens have a stake in. The number of truly justified shootings a year is very small compared to the overall number of deaths and injuries. Also, I think law enforcement professionals jobs, which are already very stressful, are going to become a nightmare in some environments. We're going to need to do a better job of screening law enforcement candidates for stability and anger issues.
Not as of 2018 they aren't. Plastic 3-D printed guns blow up half the time you try to fire a round and the other half are unusable after 1-2 shots. Effectively worthless. Plus they still need some metal components to work. And metal 3-D printed guns will cost you at least six-figures. Why would you spend $100,000+ 3-D printing a gun when you can just buy a half decent one for $1,000?
Couldn't get it up anymore, felt powerless, angry, emasculated, must punish other people. As off the mark as Freud was on so many things, he is being re-visited with a fury. "You shrinks, it's always about the mother." Turns out a lot of times it is. On being polymorphously perverse, I'd love to know how that applies to Jets fans, myself included.
The ballistic drawing that they supposedly found on a night stand is my favorite part of this massive cover up...
Sometimes people go batshit crazy and start shooting up the place. This guy had a lot of the characteristics that you see in lone shooter scenarios. He was anti-social and compulsive and he liked guns a lot, buying 29 of them between 1982 and 2016 before he ramped up his purchases prior to the massacre. He was losing wealth at an accelerating rate from 2015 onwards. He was depressed and self-treating with a combination of alcohol and valium. He sent his only close companion, his girlfriend, out of the country suddenly and wired her cash to buy a house in her home country. It just looks like a nutjob with a gun scenario from all the angles. Given the evidence that has emerged it's hard to turn it into a conspiracy unless you're focused on having it be one. I initially thought he'd need a lot of help to pull this off but then it occurred to me that a few bellboys and several $100 bills would have served just as well once he got the thing in motion. People don't usually report good-tipping regulars that they've seen several times over the years. It's not like he was a stranger to the staff at the hotel.
Or if you just choose to ignore all the strange, to say the least, things about this case... 1). The ballistic drawing that made no sense 2). Supposedly shot 200 rounds through the room door into the hallway but pictures of the hallway showed perfectly intact walls 3). Pictures of his dead body show a rifle standing on a bipod over one of his legs. Did he lay down, put his leg under the rifle and then shot himself? Or did he shoot himself standing up and his leg ended up there without knocking the rifle over when he fell down? It makes no sense. 4). Why are the rifles all over the room? If you had two shooting locations, wouldn't you gather all your weapons just in those two places? I am not saying it's a conspiracy. There are just too many strange things about this case.
Petro I try my best to stay out of this thread,,,,,,but I hear you. Go look at actualual video of the Saudi Prince who was escorted out of the casino by armed guards and no mention of this anywhere , shocking huh ? There are also live videos that show what was going on that night ,heck there were special op helicopters landing in the street when there were supposedly none in the area for hours,,,,,people have their opinion on what happened I have mine, Im not denying that it is an absolute tragedy that people were murdered but the circumstances on how this all went down are beyond sketchy
They got video of a Saudi Prince being escorted out of the casino? Wow, I'll bet his security detail took a lot of flack for letting that happen. On all the other stuff Petro mentioned above: I doubt very much that the shooter was thinking rationally at any point in this process. He probably moved back and forth between the two shooting locations and just dropped weapons as he moved to pick up the next one. If it was a conspiracy to frame him or make him a fall guy the people doing it would have left no doubt that he was the only one involved. Things like the ballistic drawing and the location of the body and it's surroundings would have been tailored to remove all doubt. The fact that there are a few small loose ends that might be interpreted the other way is probably further evidence that he was just a schmuck run amuck. Just my opinion but I think it is substantially better supported by the facts than a big conspiracy of some sort. If the Saudi's were involved, particularly that Prince, they wouldn't have been within a thousand miles when the shooting started. Probably not even in the country.
