Do you think the Jets designed that horrible stomach patch, the tri color drab green, the rubber v-neck, the oversized numbers? That was all Nike led tweaks. With other teams they were allowed to go much further (see Jax or Cle). Nike has been pushing for uniform overhauls from all 32 NFL teams, like they have done with many college teams as well. The smart teams haven't let them do much beyond tweaks. The unsmart teams (see Florida) have let them run wild with major 'modern' overhauls.. The Jets are unsmart, so it's best to keep any changes minimal.
Why on earth would Nike push for uniform overhaul over the entire NFL? How does that put a penny in their pockets? They get paid to put out uniforms. Like Reebok did. Like Starter did. Like Champion did. If a team wants to do a redesign they hire someone or groups to submit designs and pick one. Then Nike makes them. No one "designed" that stomach patch. Nike used multimaterials to deal with sweat areas. They claimed the jerseys were revolutionary in their design, more comfortable because they were sweat wicking. That was the difference from the previouse versions. Unfortunately they absorbed differently causing dark patches on the stomach of EVERY teams uniform. Just more noticeable on dark jerseys. Never noticed it on the Jet whites did you? It's not a design intended for a dark look. Amazingly fans don't even realize that they've been eliminated and there are no more dark patches. The V neck is what the NFL wanted all uniforms to have. Think, why would Nike give a shit if the uniforms had a V neck? It's like when the NHL decided all uniforms would have draw string necks like the old time uniforms had. And made every team have the stupid curved bottom. People are really silly enough to think that Nike, hired to make uniforms, get to tell 32 multi BILLION dollar teams what their uniforms will look like? Lol. Actually believe that the uniforms they don't like are what Nike forced on them. You can't make this up.
You have no idea how it works apparently, as this entire post is pretty much incorrect. The relationship is much more than just printing uniforms. Nike has a ton of creative control, and even initiate a lot of the changes, but of course the franchise has final approval. Btw the stomach patch and v-neck were absolutely Nike modifications to the uniform. Just some examples, there are plenty more: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nike-unveils-new-nfl-uniforms-seahawks-get-big-change-to-jerseys/ https://www.tennessean.com/story/sp...sey-helmet-amy-adams-strunk-reveal/485926002/
No, actually confusing with Nike redisigned their uniform s at their request and after Seattle approved them Nike produced them. It's ridiculous to think that Nike told the Seahawks that they were redisigning their uniforms and Seattle had no choice but to accept them. That, in any business, would be stupid. Never mind a business that is worth billions. Nike has no leeway to mess with any protected design. Shit they can do anything with a copywriter design. Nothing I said, from the materials, the V necks etc is wrong.
Now you are twisting my point, so I'll explain it again. No one is telling NFL teams they need to make changes. That's your red herring argument, not mine. However, Nike brought in tweaks to uniforms which the NFL backed as part of their partnership, and most teams went along with it but not all. The stomach patch and V-neck are perfect examples of this. That was one point you were wrong on. Additionally Nike brought new designs to teams for consideration, as they were hoping to modernize NFL uniforms, similar to what they've done with many college teams. Of course only some teams, looking for change, took them up on that. The rest did not, and reports were Nike was very disappointed in the resistance to change. As for the teams that did want change, they delegated Nike a lot of leeway in design, per the partnership the NFL has with Nike. They do not hire outside designers who then tell Nike what to print, as you incorrectly claimed. That was another point you were wrong on. And the more creative input Nike was given, the worst the result. Tenn, Jax, Cle....perfect examples. The Tenn link i provided takes you end to end on how their uniform change process worked. You can also look up Jax. So my point is the Jets in no way should move toward a massive change, as we've seen the recent results of that process already, and it a'int pretty. Nike's terrible 'modernization' ideas are a big reason for that. If I had more confidence in the Jet's marketing ability to reign Nike's bad ideas in, I'd be ok with a bigger change. But I don't have that confidence in the Jets brass.
Your eyes not getting it. Teams get new uniforms because they want new uniforms, not because Nike wants to give them new uniform designs. The Patch was on Nike, because they were peddling a better more comfortable design. As I said in the first post, yes the sweat absorption cause the dark patches. I assume teams or the NFL complained because they changed them. But it's a far different story than the more comfortable neck and sweat wicking design was for a new Nike look forced on teams. All of Nikes 'modernization' was performances based, not look based. Look design changes, logo changes etc are team mandated and only happen after a team approves. The Jets didn't tell Nike that they want new uniforms and are sitting around waiting to see what Nike will produce for them. Do not tell people it happens any other way or they're wrong for knowing that.
The color rush idea was also Nike's baby... If memory serves me, I think the NFL conceded to the idea to placate Nike, after not many teams agreed to overhaul their uniforms..
Holy shit dude, I never said teams get new uniforms just because Nike wanted to give them new uniforms (color rush aside).. I've already pointed out that that is your red herring argument. As far as the process, at least read the Titans article i provided as an example of how a uniform redesign works, before you tell other people they are wrong.. https://www.tennessean.com/story/sp...sey-helmet-amy-adams-strunk-reveal/485926002/ The modernization goes well beyond the bad performance ideas. They also want to modernize the look and appearance of uniform design. Again, of course the clubs have final approval. The stupid ones go along with it, and I don't want the Jets to be another Cle, Jax, Miami, Tampa, Tenn, etc..
No shit, Tenn wanted new uniforms and told Nike to come up with something. They probably were presented a number of designs and picked one. Is it that friggen hard to get. This is not the same as Tenn saying make us a uniform and accepting whatever Nike designs. All I've said all along. Why the fuck is this an argument. Pretty simple and you're just arguing to argue.
Your initial argument was that it was laughable to suggest Nike had any input into uniform design, that teams hired outside groups for that, and that Nike simply made what they were told. That's not how it works, but whatever it's not worth arguing further. We can probably agree that most uniform redesigns have been atrocious, and leave it at that.
jeez that devolved quite a bit. i love all the changes in the college uniforms, some are bad but many are really good. for whatever reason, probably mostly because old rich dudes are making the decisions on the nfl uniforms the new ones have almost all been dogshit. i like a few but most are terrible. i dont see the need for fancy numbers or strange highlights on everything. but hey at least they arent wearing sublimated jerseys like alot of youth organizations.
They noted the serif at the top of the "4" in the unique font that would not have shown up on the "2"
Because they're changing their uniform for the first time in 20 years? 3rd time ever? To usher in a new direction in their 60th season? No one is forcing anyone to buy anything. You dont have to buy a new look, can just wait until a new player comes along or your old jersey is falling apart. Plus I dont get this part of the equation, you think the NFL and teams arent and shouldnt be in the making money business? This is shocking and gets people upset?
