It appears as if the BCS is about to get the national title game right. USC is CLEARLY the 2nd best team right now...and they deserve the shot to get beat by OSU. But what about the rest of the BCS? Specifically, what if my Florida Gators lose next week to Arkansas? Currently, LSU is #5 in the BCS. They are 10-2. If the Gators lose, they will be 11-2. Florida beat LSU earlier in the year. But if UF gets beat this week, they are out of the BCS equation and LSU gets an at-large bid. Want a controversy? Tell Florida the following: "Although you have a better record than LSU and beat them head-to-head, we are awarding LSU a BCS game because you lost more recently" Urban Meyer's head may explode. Wow...time to blow this thing up.
Who cares about the non title games? Your play at the end of the year should count for more. You want a team rolling towards a title not stumbling. In what other sport can you lose your last game then play for a Championship(in some sports it's series' instead of games)? CFB itself is a joke b/c of the lack of a playoff, the sham of the BCS and teams get bowl games based on TV ratings and how their fans travel.
you're a gator fan? didnt you spend 700 dollars to sit in the upper bowl for the OSU/MICH game? 700 dollars, and your team wasnt even playing in it....
Excellent question.....I grew up in Florida and lived in gainesville for 3 years. I now live in Columbus for the last 6 years. The Gators are my team. but i also root for the Bucks. But more than that, i make it a point to attend many imporant sporting events. And when the game of the century is played in your backyard....well....you pony up the cash.
I'm with junc.... college football sucks. The entire sport is based on who travels well and who brings in the most money. How good was Utah 2 years ago when the BCS screwed them by pitting them against arguabley the worst team ever to play in the BCS or the Fiesta Bowl. In a perfect world Florida would have their chance to show how good they are by playing Ohio St or USC but they'll be stuck playing a subpar ND team in the Sugar Bowl.
If Florida is even in the discussion even after the loss they would get an at-large bid over most because of their ratings/fans
At this point, if Florida doesnt go to a BCS game, regardless of the games outcome, I will stop watching college football completely. Florida isnt gonna get a chance to play the teams who are supposedly so much better than them, theyll get stuck with some team like ND who doesnt even deserve a BCS game. Whether or not you think Florida or USC or Michigan should be playing in the title game, the fact is noone knows, and that is why the BCS is so f'd up.
Oddly, so am I. That's why I was not that disappointed when Rutgers lost, because the whole system is so flawed to begin with. Does Ohio State really need 7 weeks off before their bowl game? Another round or two couldn't be done to settle it? They're halfway there by identifying 8 teams, they just need to add the final two rounds. The excitement would be a combination of the NFL playoffs and the NCAAs, and wouldn't compromise the regular season.
of course not, athletes go to class and thats about the extent of it. I have a friend who had group projects with some athletes here and he said the professors just give them a grade with doing minimal work.
Is it just me or are ND not as good as last year? I don't follow college sports much at all, but I was under the impression that they were primed for a big successful year.
I still say it should be Michigan-Ohio State. Obviously, USC losing did nothing to change my opinion. Florida is Michigan's only threat now.
I so called a re-match...But sure didn't see USC gagging this game. How can you not be up for this game?
Screw them. They're 3 missed FGs by South Carolina from having 2 losses... And now Florida leads 17-14 after being up 17-0.
