Yepper.. This old salty is fishing sweetwater! Its my annual trip to Mizzou. Wifey gets to spend time with her mom, and I get to fish one of the premier lakes in the US. Win/Win!

Caught quite a few LM Bass, Catfish and a ton of Crappies. Fishing has been fantastic! Most days we limit out before noon.

my buddy who's a charter guide has been cleaning up on the Kings all week..... supposedly in close (1 mile) and the ocean has been as FLAT as it can get.
May try and paddle out the plastic yacht on sunday to get some if weather / conditions allow

    Thinking SeaBass on Sunday..

UPDATE: Mama Nature had other plans today and sent a rainstorm up the coast. I'll give it another shot this upcoming Friday.

UGGGH...... did some serious paddlin yesterday.
Ocean was pretty flat, so I took my kayak out matanzas inlet and went out a mile or so off the beach (past the shrimp boats o_O)
Saw some Tarpon but didnt catch any..... then had to paddle in against the current to avoid an approaching T-storm.
It was by my buddy's house, and was on the beach with his girlfriend.... with cold beers waiting. Didn't have to ask me twice.
I ended up crashing on his couch. ha

Tough day but we did put some fish in the cooler. I think the keeper Sea Bass for the most part has been thinned out due to overfishing. Out of the 70 some odd fish we caught today, only 5 were keepers. Most were 11" and the legal limit is 12". Ling made up the difference but until Oct., Sea bass is closed. Time for Plan B for the summer. That means a Tilefishing trip and perhaps a Cod trip as well. Hard to find a Cod boat on the weekend as I have to use my vacation days wisely. Maybe a trip down to Delaware as their Sea Bass season last all summer but their boats are more expensive and its a longer drive.

Tough fishing day today. Hard east wind and 3-7ft swells made holding bottom challenging. Still managed to put fish in the cooler though. I won't fish another East wind though. Just not worth the effort.

Headed out Sat. AM for another bottomfishing trip. Will be taking the E-Reel to get used to using it. Got a "bucket list" trip set up for the end of this month. Headed to Gloucester, MA for a few days. Targeting Cod, Pollack, Haddock, Cusk and other bottom dwelling critters. They're using 1lb sinkers so this should be challenging. They also require a 50ft. topshot of mono since we're using braid. Not a problem. I'm thinking 200-400' of water so its not cheating!

Yeah, I use 16oz bank sinker when fishing livebaits.... even in >150'
You need that "topshot" to provide some stretch

Yep.. Put on 15m of 50# fluorocarbon leader topshot on 60lb 8 strand braid. Loaded for bear. I'll see how things work with it tomorrow. 5-6ft seas means another rough trip but I'm taking my Dram tonite so I should be good. I usually don't get sick anyway but taking no chances.

    Nice
    Deep dropping, I assume?

We had a tentative plan to do a fullmoon overnighter for mango snappers..... but my buddy went by the marine forecast and called it off. Of course they were wrong and it was pretty flat

Yep..We were fishing the famous "Stellwagon Banks" off Gloucester, MA. About 30miles out. 200-300'. Damn shame the Feds won't allow any Cod to be kept in the Gulf of Maine so we had to throw back some real beauties. We did get more than our share of Pollock, Haddock and those lil Red fish. Boated 34 keepers between me and Wifey. We went with Electric Reels and I'm sure glad we did. By the end of the trip, we were still good while the rest of the boat were worn out. Those 16oz sinkers are no joke and some folks were using 20's!. Basically we left the spinning gear home. Wifey used my blackfish rod and the smaller electric while I used my Cod/Tilefish rod with the larger electric. 6/0 circle hooks, 50lb pink fluorocarbon leader, green glow beads and a white flasher was the ticket. We were almost high hook and the guys fishing next to us did pretty good thanks to us. Great boat too. Fished on the Yankee Clipper. Same fare but they certainly took care of us. Kept the clam coming and provided ice for our catch. At the rate we were catching fish, I thought we were gonna go broke since its a $1/fish cleaning fee. :)
