It doesn't really matter whether it is specific players in the game, there are only two factions here. You can't blame the agent without blaming Darnold; you can't blame MacCagnan without blaming the Jets. Of course, that can be included in the discussion but if you're going to zero in on a singular person back it up as best you can.
you have to blame Darnold in this case. It's not like he is an established player looking to get paid or even like there is much wiggle room for a contract. Its pretty much locked in what his salary will be anyway. If you are a rookie and you want to be the team's starting QB, you can't miss a minute of camp.... and I usually side with the players in these things
Darnold's fault. All the other QBs, including Allen whose agent is also Sexton, accepted the offset language. Darnold needs to do the same and hope that Bowles isn't already holding it against him.
If I'm not mistaken, the offset language is not a standard form but is individually negotiated for each player; therefore there is no simple accept/don't accept box to be checked.
As disappointed as I am (and also the strong potential not seeing him in person tomorrow), this is business guys. I can tell you first hand working most of my professional career in the corporate world, these red tape events are to be expected. Delays, delays, delays, delays.
The last person to blame is Sam? One of 2 players in the situation that has the authority to sign the contract. The other being Mac and Sam is the last person we can blame? Are you serious?
Actually if you're allocating blame to the side of the employee you must blame Sam Darnold himself - any decision is his. He may have the input of his family and his agent but any final decision is his and his alone to make. If he can't stand up to mommy and daddy how's he going to stand up the pressure of the job?
Don’t bother, if he didn’t understand it in your first post he won’t understand in a second post either
I knew it was Stokes' fault this whole time!!!! Nah, clearly it's more the agent than anything else. The fact that the #1 overall pick already accepted that offset language, says all I need to hear about this. The agent needs to stop being a dick and just tell Darnold to sign. It's only going to hurt his career at this point. I don't think it's just Darnold here, but you never know. Maybe we can trade him for Rosen. LOL!
