They were the only team willing to pay him. After we dumped him. But Jet fans think he should have said no.

    Why?

Joe Montana left the San Fran 49ers for K.C.

Michael Jordan never played his entire career with the Bulls (Wizard's).

Peyton Manning left the Indy Colts for Denver.

Babe Ruth wasn't drafted as an N.Y Yankee (Boston).

    LeBron left Cleveland for Miami.

Even Patrick Ewing was traded away from N.Y to Seattle while Karl Malone left Utah in order to ring chase as a Laker.

Emmitt Smith never stayed his entire career with the Dallas Cowboys (Arizona) and Deion Sanders played for 5 different teams.

    Etc. Etc.

Players come and players go. It's very rare in sports to see a player finish his entire career from start to finish with the same team.

Revis never won us a ring, no. But we don't sniff back to back AFC Championship games without Revis completely shutting down opposing #1 WR's.

I can not blame the man for leaving the Jets in order to cash out millions while winning a ring. I'm just thankful that he came back home to retire as a Jet.

Because of #24? As a Jets fan; i can say that I've witnessed my Franchise draft the NFL's #1 pass coverage CB of All-Time.

He fell off a cliff after injury. But prime Revis? There's never been a #1 CB who completely shut down opposing #1 WR's on an island quite like Darrelle Revis did. Kid was a special, special ball player.

    Joe Namath.
    Curtis Martin.
    Darrelle Revis.

Like it or not. Those are the 3 greatest Jets of All-Time.

I really hope our coaching staff signs Revis to become our secondary coach within the near future. I've never seen a CB prepare for opponents as Revis once did. His preparation was remarkable. His technique and I.Q of the position was second to none.

Coach Revis would be a blessing to have within the locker room, practice field and film room.

Historically speaking, elite players don't make great coaches in the pro's (Mike Singletary, Isiah Thomas) and the one's that have, don't stay very long (Bill Russell, Larry Bird).

And IMO, I don't get the impression Revis would ever entertain the idea of being a secondary coach for the Jets or any NFL team.

when deion says he was one of the best, and his coach talks about how they didnt have to worry about the other teams best receiver i think it speaks volumes about what kind of a player he was. also please note the tackling he used to do. that was one of my favorite attributes about him. it was one of the things that set him apart from all the "cover corners" that have played. he tackled and he did it well.

Very good point, and it makes a lot of sense. The stars are born with immense talent and probably having trouble accepting the fact that others don't have that kind of talent. Also, most of the stars worked their butts off to develop their talent, and probably don't understand players who don't/won't work as hard as they did. Plus, there's the ego thing. Being a coach, especially a position coach, is a big step down from being a star.

And Revis was the only one to make it all about the money.

Kinda takes a little blush off the rose..

Namath is inconsequential, there was no salary cap. Funny you say it wasnt about the money with a guy who didnt only play one team against another, he played one league against the other into the NFLs all time biggest payday at the time he signed. But its Joe, its cool, facts can be rewritten?

Man, when Namath signed, people gasped: $427,000 was unheard-of. Now, some guys get that kind of money in workout bonuses. Namath came along at exactly the right time. Sonny Werblin was not going to be outbid because Namath had the kind of star power the Jets and the AFL needed. No salary cap + no free agency = no problem. To Werblin, the "big bucks" were worth every penny because they generated publicity for him, the Jets and the AFL.

    C'mon...

I'm talking about holding out on a contract once you sign.

    I don't hate Revis...but there's a reason he earned the Mevi$ nickname.

I don't like that Jets might retire #24 or put him in the ROH...that's all.

joe had the biggest contract out there.... why would he hold out?

revis was scheduled to earn 1 million in year 4 of a 6 year deal. do YOU think he was worth more than 1 million? i would say he surely was. one could say the jets probably could have extended him sooner and saved some money, they didnt though and ended up with the best cb and one of hte top 5 defensive players in the league not just laying down and taking his money from before he proved himself and demanding to be paid along the lines of what he actually was.

how the fuck could anyone be mad at a guy for that. seriously. there are so many guys that end up earning far less than they could or should earn because of the shitty collective bargaining agreement that they have. there are tons of guys who never get to that big pay day and there are tons of guys who are too beat up to get to that pay day.

if revis doesnt do what he does he gets hurt in 2012 and probably gets dicked by the jets. but you know it bothers you as a fan that he actually cares more about his future than your team. cmon yourself.

John Riggins was the first NFL player to ever hold out. Sat out a full year and just did hick things in his overalls in his free time waiting for a phone call. The Redskins paid him and he went on to the HOF. Things were very different then, and many players also had day jobs to supplement their income and could barely pay the rent.

It really depends how you want to look at it in so many different ways. The NFL became a lying ass machine that didn't care about the physical welfare of anyone (not as if they ever did). Couple that with the blatant CTE lie. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know why Ali was a walking zombie years before the end of his life. Punch drunk, that's a term from the 1830s for fukks sake.

Again, I put it on the shoulders of the Jets for not calling his bluff - twice - and they should've just let someone else pay him. I don't blame Revis for his money grab. I blame the Jets FO for their stupidity. I'm just repeating myself like that shitty pizza that's giving me heartburn.

I think there are 2 different categories here.
Greatest jets of all time and greatest jet players of all time.
Revis only falls into one of those.

I didn't bring up and compare Namath. Who negotiated for every dollar and more. Without FA.

Wasn't Revis's contact deal after his rookie deal close to expiring? He had one long negotiation for a new deal. Then he was traded. Then he was a FA after TB cut him. We stayed away. He went to the only team that made an offer. Then we resigned him without stress. Don't get how this pisses people off. The same business dumped him to TB that paid him.

Revis is a first ballot Hall-of-Famer and an all-time Jet. The only thing he loved more than shutting down receivers was checking his bank balance.
