Yeah, I know, some of us thought he retired when he last faced Sammy Watkins. Anyway, I’ll *try* and remember the good times and not the holdouts.
Should be some interesting takes on this news.. It’d be cool to see him go into ROH w Bruck,Mangold & Harris but not sure Fans/franchise are quite ready to forgive him
He was my favorite player hands down for over half a decade. Then I grew to dislike him. Then I grew to borderline hate him. He's still one of the greatest CBs of all time, a top 3 Jet of all time and a first-ballot HOFer.
I'll always remember him shutting down opponents' number 1 WR's in 2009. I'll try to forget the latter stint with the Jets.
That's the entire problem. He leaves such a mixed legacy. In his prime, he was one of the best ever, but in his later years, he looked as if he wasn't even trying and was making a business decision to avoid contact on every play. Throughout, he sure seemed to be a me-first guy, putting his own personal interests (usually money ones) over the team's. I suppose that if Gastineau (a real me-first guy) is in the Ring of Honor, you can't keep Revis out.
Revis should’ve/could’ve been one of the best jets of all time and a beloved fixture in the jets organization for the rest of his life. Would have made the same money and probably would have earned more in endorsements and such well into his old age. Instead he is a mercenary who had some good years with the jets, the end
You would think you'd want to show your pride by wearing the jersey of a player of his caliber, especially if he played on your team. Quite the contrary with Revis. I'd rather wear my Mangold jersey (or D'Brickashaw's) over Revis' -- they were true Jets and a consummate professionals.
It's a shame he tarnished his own legacy, but I still say his 2009 season was the BEST the CB position has been played in my lifetime
As a fan, there was like a 2 - 2.5 year window where you could literally look at the opponents #1 receiver and say "Well, we don't have to worry about that guy today." "Calvin Johnson? No problem. Oh, We got the Bengals and AJ Green ? No worries. Oh shit, Andre Johnson is balling this year...….ha, not against Revis today!" The one guy I remember take it to Revis in his prime, however, was Stevie Johnson. The one game in particular that really stood out was at Buffalo where he had over 100 yards on Revis, but ironically dropped an open TD pass in the end zone that would have won the game...….
Stevie Johnson and Revis was a great battle on a few occasions. Stevie would mix it up at the LOS to confuse Revis and it worked. A lot of people are saying Revis is the BEST Jets player ever. What do you guys think?
