Great job by my team, those darlings of the tournament, those scrappy hometown Russians. Shows was hard work, playing by the rules and determination can do. If you’re not rooting for them you have no soul. The time difference is really easy to fix, so stupid the way they do it now. Every time a player flops clutching his shin or ball sack, just stop the clock like they do in real sports and when they restart the clock, start time running again and no one is guessing how much “extra” time there is after the actual game has ended. No time difference.
I know I said I wouldn't watch it but I just couldn't stay away. Still have no idea how Spain lost, they were clearly the better team. Russia parked the bus at 1-1 and just played for penalties like cowards. To no surprise the Russians had the easiest group stage hands down, got some homecookin love from the refs vs Spain, and now they get another cupcake team in Croatia in the Round of 8. Please God, do not let England lose to them in the semifinals. Cannot take Russia in the Final.
I don't see it happening, but Russia defeating England in the semis, the meltdown that would occur in England in the wake of that would be epic. Edited: got the wording backwards the first time
I tried to get into it this year. I picked Mexico as my team. I enjoyed some aspects but today when I saw that Brazilian player hemorrhaging on the field for 10 freakin minutes like he'd been shot after a guy barely stepped on his foot I decided I'm done, definitely with this tournament but probably forever. That's child's play.
But...but...but this is the tournament that is finally going to get soccer to go mainstream in America. Said every 4 years since the 1980s.
I hear the coach is Belichick's Russian cousin, Boris Belicheatinov. They are totally cheating, as little as I watch. Word has it that the guy who scored the winning goal vs. Spain is being investigated for HGH. Surprise, surprise. I'm starting to get really sick of sports in general because of this nonsense. Nothing to do with the Word Cup, but Soccer related so I'll put it here: the 13 Thai Soccer players and their Coach that were feared dead after ten days stranded in that cave, all of them have been found ALIVE. Amazing. Thai Navy Seals (divers) and Australian Navy Military (divers) for the win. Unbelievable. I was convinced most of them or all of them were already goners, and it was going to turn into a recovery, not a rescue. I adore being wrong sometimes. Happy feelings here. https://www.yahoo.com/news/soccer-team-lost-10-days-slideshow-wp-173506215.html EDIT, CORRECTION, UPDATE: Two British divers got to them first.: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-44688909
