Former New York Jets quarterback Christian Hackenberg visited Gillette Stadium, Thursday Matt Vautour of Masslive reports. This according to ESPN's Field Yates. There was no report of a contract offer to the free agent. The Patriots currently have starter Tom Brady, veteran backup Brian Hoyer and rookie Danny Etling, a seventh-round pick out of LSU, on the roster. It seems unlikely that they'd carry four quarterbacks into training camp, which begins in late July. Hackenberg, a second round pick of the Jets in 2016, has not appeared in a regular season NFL game. He was inactive for the first 14 games of the 2017 season. Once considered a potential future starter, he couldn't pass Josh McCown and Bryce Petty on the depth chart in 2017 or Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith or Petty in 2017. The Jets traded Hackenberg to the Oakland Raiders for a conditional 2019 draft choice in May, but he was waived Tuesday. I guess here comes the info pump
This was the plan all along. Everyone knew Mac felt forced to take Hack when he did because he KNEW Belli was getting set to pounce on this stud franchise QB in the second. Hahahahahahaaaa. Haha. Ha.
Someone please merge this with champ's Bates/Hackenberg thread in the National Football League Forum. Not to niggle, but it's just going to clutter the Jets Forum. Hackenberg is no longer relevant unless he kills someone or dies in a plane crash or something. By the way, one of the definitions of niggle is to be petty. You can't make it up, and that's why I used it. I am here to educate, and as to words, brain stuff and all, I'm still sometimes that good.
I can see it now. Christian Hackenberg, Superbowl champion QB for the Patriots. The headline: "Who's the best QB of all time? Brady or Hackenberg?"
So years ago was at a meeting with literally 25 guys sitting around the conference room table (back when we actually had meetings in person like that) and one of the senior guys on my side went into a monologue and mid-way through he used the term “niggardly” and there was an audible gasp from the gathering until he said, “guys, it means miserly, cheap”. Lol.
Methinks that they brought him in to glean as much info on the Jets that they can wiggle out of him. It's not really for a QB job.
Ok, 2 things. Belli has pretty much owned us for 2 decades, why does he need to glean anything about the Jets to continue to beat us. And what does a 5th string QB who has never taken a snap in the NFL know about the Jets 4 months before we play the Pats that could possibly help Belli in game planning? Who’s going to make our practice squad? Who looks good in shorts and shells? I understand taking someone just cut a week before we play them, but what does Hack know about the Jets in June that’s going to help Belli when the season starts?
I read he was scheduled for a visit then it was cancelled. They have Brady, Hoyer and a draft pick at QB, what would they do with Hack?
They want the skinny on the Jets so they can have any hope at all to beat us next year. Hack has all the answers. He’s like Nick Cage in National Treasure. Belli is just pumping him for inside info. 4 months in advance. He’s the GOAT. Do you think Bowles is doing this? I think not.
“You’ve been there for over 2 years and there’s NOTHING you can tell me about the Jets?” “They have these really nice space heaters next to the bench when it’s cold sometimes”
