Great news for North America. The 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Unlike the Russia and Qatar bids that were bribed/rigged, we won this one fair and square.

The USA will host the majority of the cup. 10 USA cities, 5 Canadian, and 5 Mexican will host the Cup. Is that fair between Canada and Mexico? Probably not. Mexico is a soccer nation and Canada is a hockey nation, but it's an even split.

The Final will be in MetLife in NY.

This is going to be amazing. Only thing I don't like is the expansion to 48 teams. Otherwise--

I know no one likes him here, but Robert Kraft pulled a lot of strings to get this done for "United 2026".

They had to expand to 48 to give us a better shot at qualifying

It will help qualifying in the future for sure. I think despite the USA hosting half the games and the Final, Canada got the best deal out of the alliance. They get to host a quarter of the games and are automatically qualified. Obviously the alliance was brilliant since the USA and Mexico were unlikely to win the bids alone, and Canada had zero % chance to win the bid or qualify.

Heard the idiots on Boston radio today complaining that we should have just bid alone. Would have never got it alone. I'll take half of the games plus the Final over nothing. Greedy bastards.

Trump won't be president in 2026, but we'll get a wall.

Hang in there Brook! With 48 teams you know Turkey will be there!

Are you watching right now? Love the way Egypt is playing vs. Uruguay! Imagine if they can get a result without Salah. Fully expecting a gut punch goal from Suarez in the 88th minute to win though

How do we not have a thread for this?

It happened exactly the way you said. Heart breaking loss for Egypt and Salah. Well I don’t root for Turkey. I am Kurdish. My soccer team is USA. :) Please start a 2019 World Cup Thread so ee can talk. :)

Oh you're Kurdish, well say no more. That's like, I was having a discussion one of those "where are ancestors from, who are you rooting for" conversations, and they are like "Oh so you are rooting for Russia and Poland?" And I'm like, um, I'm a Jew, my grandparents were lucky enough to GTFO of there before the shit hit the fan... fuck no why would I root for those countries!!

Egypt can still advance, they'll beat the Saudis and on paper should be able to beat Russia. Although with Putin behind the scenes who the fuck knows what shenanigans are going on.

I'll start a WC thread. Holy shit how am I going to get any work done this month!

Me too man, I will get tickets for that game for sure. Definitely a once in a lifetime event to see the Final in NY/NJ, it will never happen again in our lifetimes. In 1994 Pasadena, CA hosted it, and I imagine if we get the World Cup sometime again when I'm like 100 it will be in LA or something.

BTW, we are in a great area. Presumably with NY, Boston(Foxboro), and Montreal being hosting cities, should be a lot of options to see some games with those 3 cities being about 6 hours of one another. I hope we get some good teams in our groups. But who am I kidding, USA will probably get the toughest group and get stuck out in LA or something.

They already rigged the group draw where Russia got the easiest group imaginable hands down. Saudi Arabia blows. Egypt blows. The only good team they have on their schedule is Uruguay, who they have a good chance of tying and then winning the group based on goal differential.

BTW here are the possible cities. The Canadian and Mexican cities are locked in, USA cities still yet to be decided.

United States (10 to be selected)
    • Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium): Capacity: 71,000
    • Baltimore (M&T Bank Stadium): Capacity: 71,006
    • Boston (Gillette Stadium): Capacity: 65,878 (Expandable to 70,000)
    • Cincinnati (Paul Brown Stadium): Capacity: 65,515 (Expandable to 67,402)
    • Dallas (AT&T Stadium): Capacity: 80,000
    • Denver (Sports Authority Field at Mile High): Capacity: 76,125 (Expandable to 77,595)
    • Houston (NRG Stadium): Capacity: 71,795 (Expandable to 72,220)
    • Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadium): Capacity: 76,416
    • Los Angeles (Rose Bowl): Capacity: 92,000
    • Miami (Hard Rock Stadium): Capacity: 64,767 (Expandable to 67,518)
    • Nashville (Nissan Stadium): Capacity: 69,143 (Expandable to 75,000)
    • New York/New Jersey (MetLife Stadium): Capacity: 82,500 (Expandable to 87,157)
    • Orlando (Camping World Stadium): Capacity: 60,219 (Expandable to 65,000)
    • Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field): Capacity: 69,176 (Expandable to 69,328)
    • San Francisco (Levi's Stadium): Capacity: 68,500 (Expandable to 75,000)
    • Seattle (CenturyLink Field): Capacity: 69,000 (Expandable to 72,000)
    • Washington, D.C. (FedExField): Capacity: 82,000
    Mexico (3 venues)
    • Guadalajara (Estadio Akron): Capacity: 46,232 (Expandable to 48,071)
    • Mexico City (Estadio Azteca): Capacity: 87,523
    • Monterrey (Estadio BBVA Bancomer): Capacity: 53,500
    Canada (3 venues)
    • Edmonton (Commonwealth Stadium): Capacity: 56,302
    • Montreal (Olympic Stadium): Capacity: 61,004 (Expandable to 73,000)
    • Toronto (BMO Field): Capacity: 30,000 (Expandable to 45,500) [/code]

    • So NY is already locked in because it's hosting the Final. LA is pretty much a lock. Boston is also pretty much a lock since Robert Kraft did so much of the work in getting us this Cup, I don't see how his Stadium isn't going to be one of the ones selected. Dallas is another city I'd bet my life on. Other ones will be interesting. Probably have to look at the map and figure out which ones make most sense geography wise.

They never would have gone for three automatic qualifiers without the expansion to 48 teams.

It is very awesome for the growth of soccer in the States to get this in the next 10 years. Too bad it's the only way we'd qualify for the Cup
