Sloppy defense was overcome by 2 Baby Bombers in extras and Gardy's 2 dingers. Brett has been on fire lately. Starting pitching needs to get back on track, but can't complain about taking the season series from the defending champs.
Unless I read it wrong, the Yankees have the second best record in the majors - and - the second best record in their division (tied in the loss column).
The Yankees got rained out twice in Detroit, once in DC, and had a game suspended in DC because of rain. I'm not worried about the standings now, but the Sox aren't a bad team. Can't take them for granted.
Which isn't a good think because Boston won all 4 of those extra games and the Yankees have to make them up with no rest
Make it 5 games to make up or continue. Mother Nature can be cruel. At least the Sox lost last night.
Phil Hughes with the Padres now... seems like the perfect fit for him. Injuries really took their toll on him. (And on Joba, for that matter.) That 2007 injury for Hughes was terrible. I remember watching the game and seeing the hammy pop. The 2008 season was even more heartbreaking. Hughes had that rib stress fracture and missed basically the whole season... then Joba hurt his shoulder after looking so strong as a starter. Sigh.
Can a club get fined for unnecessary cancellation? Word out of Baltimore is it's not raining, hasn't rained, and isn't expecting to get bad until late tonight, which may effect the game now cus of the delay. If they start it soon whatever, but this delay seems very odd for a real bad team that has to play a good team.
Yeah, that was also a tough one to watch. There really was a lot of talent there. If I felt like getting depressed about it, id start to wonder if there was something they could’ve done to prevent those injuries. In happier news, the Yanks have the best record in the majors (by winning percentage) and have third best run differential despite having played 4-5 fewer games. (They’re only 6 runs behind Boston.) Houston has an absurd run differential, mostly thanks to their pitching. Occasionally shaky starting pitching aside, I think this could be a special team. (And I think the pitching has a chance to significantly improve whether from German settling down, Montgomery coming back, or Adams or Sheffield getting a shot. Never mind a big trade. Lord knows they have enough pieces to move.)
