Gotta disagree here. 2008: Matt Ryan (1st round) Joe Flacco (1st round) 2009: Matthew Stafford (1st overall) Mark Sanchez (1st round) 2010: Sam Bradford (1st overall) 2011: Cam Newton (1st overall) Andy Dalton (2nd round) 2012: Andrew Luck (1st overall) Robert Griffin III (1st round) Ryan Tannehill (1st round) Brandon Weeden (1st round) Russell Wilson (3rd round) 2013: EJ Manual (1st round) Geno Smith (2nd round) 2014: Derek Carr (2nd round) 2015: Jameis Winston (1st overall) Marcus Mariota (1st round)
Agreed, but first rounders often do. I am all for sitting him if he isn't ready, but if he shows what I think he will show, he needs to be out there Monday night in Detroit.
I'm not saying he shouldn't or won't. Just was saying to those who think it's a travesty or codling that not every QB needs to start day 1. For me, he seems like a tough kid, don't see him getting in over his head or down and out when he struggles. Start him.
There's no proof that sitting a qb improves their prospects. Period. Again, if he's the best qb in training camp you play him week 1. If he's not then he sits. Not rocket science.
There is no proof the other way either. The word “period” doesn’t enhance the position. This is not an exact science.
That’s not “proof” that sitting or playing had a positive or negative impact on how a QB develops. There is no way to “prove” either side of the issue. Some guys may benefit, some guys may not, by sitting for a year or playing immediately.
