I sit in Sect 105 Endzone Corner where the players come out and the play happened to my left opposite side of the field, I would say that the ball was at least around the 25 yard line. After Byrd was attented to, which had to take like at least 20 minutes, KC threw a bomb, the very next play!
They were deep in their territory when the play happened. I got the photo below signed by Dennis and his Wife at the '93 home opener.

I was at the game when he got hurt and the game when he ran back out on the field. I think it was an opening day, maybe 1993 or 94 against the Broncos. We lost, of course, like we did so often during the Kotex years. But it was a special moment.
It was '92 when he got hurta nd '93 when he came back for Opening Day but the Coach was Bruce Coslet not Rich Kotite.
As was I. His piece was originally done on Outside the lines on Sunday, I believe. Its amazing what he had to go through.
I to was there when he got injured. And yes, I will never forget that day either. His story is really one of great inspiration. I saw this special on ESPN, and it just makes you realize the important things in life
There was a really good TV movie made about Byrd, his life and what happened. I think it was CBS, or was it NBC?
I think it was on CBS, I have a copy somewhere. It was based on his book, it was nice to see the movie but it was horribly done w/ a low budget. It was comical watching the football scenes and who they got to play guys like Lageman and Marvin washington.
You're realitively new Jets fan (I would assume), and it is not a story someone from Australia would hear about in the papers. But what happened to Byrd was a pretty significant day for Jets fans and the organization. So instead of just writing a post saying you don't know what happened, it would be a better idea to read up on it. That is why you are getting this type of reaction.
True, but for a TV movie made back then it wasn't too bad. The movie really didn't focus on the football aspect all that much, it was more about Byrd the person (so to speak), so I didn't mind too much. And the actor who played Byrd did a really nice job, I forgot his name.
That's was my first Jets game. Helluva way to become a fan huh? And yeah... quite sobering, as some have said. I was up in the 303 nose bleed section, right next to the chiefs fans (a whole boat of 'em) and they were the biggest s-holes... all I heard from them was "shake it off you PUSSY" and the snears, and how the Jets were so weak blah blah blah. THE GUY HAS a BROKEN NECK!!!!! ..... "shake it off" ???? I don't know, i still giggle at that retardation for some reason. People with zero compassion really piss me off. I've been hooked ever since.........
It happened right in front of my seats. They collided at about the 10 yard line. It really didn't look like much of a hit. I've seen worse looking ones. But when he didn't move at all... I've never heard the stadium so quiet. It was like everybody got punched in the gut. After they put him on the spine board and hauled him into the ambulance, everybody was still standing there in a daze. That was when KC threw that deep bomb down the right sideline (in front of the Jets bench). It fell incomplete. I really don't recall much of that game after that. One other thing, don't forget that Leon Hess (our owner at the time) would stop by and visit him in the hospital every day and that he took an active interest in how well the treatments were progressing. While the man took some hits for the team stinking up the joint, he really was a class act.
I hope hes doing well, I was too young to remember it but I know the story, sad to hear hes still in pain.
