Think we play just well enough to be in the conversation for a decent part of the season but come up short in the end.
That's a tough division to handicap now. Who are the Raiders, Broncos were no better than us, and what is Mahomes?
Our ceiling is the last Wild Card spot. Our floor is 8-8, which might be good enough for the 6 seed. Anything less and Bowles will be gone. If we suck it will be the defense that lets us down, not Captain Hammer and the offense.
It's possible if Darnold really blossoms from the start and adds that extra dimension at QB that we've been lacking since Namath. But talk of playoffs is unfair, and only puts pressure on them. I don't really care too much what the record is as long as they make good progress, and if they do, a .500 record should be the result.
McCown is a good game manager. You're underestimating his ability based on pathetic QB play from Jets for many years.
Take a hike champ you're making me make myself look like more of an asshole with this cornball shit.. @Brook! : Improved (and watchable) in '18 yes. . Playoffs, imho doubt it. The short term cost (trading three 2nd round picks) for the long-term benefit (Darnold - assuming he pans out), obviously delays roster growth in terms of getting a legit edge/pass-rusher, a true #1 WR along with some real, honest-to-goodness 'goodness' on the OL....which of course isn't a problem long term/big picture-wise with a relatively young roster like the Jets (again, assuming Darnold pans out). . Currently there are units with holes in them and as far as this year's draft goes, as promising as he may look, you can't count on a 3rd round DL (Shepherd) to suddenly free up Leo. Playoffs: I think they need a true playmaker with next year's #1 and a "hit" in the 3rd round. jm2cts. Beyond all this though is who knows what impact injuries (knock on wood) will have both here and throughout the division/conference.
I don't think Carpenter will. He struggled in a zone blocking scheme in Seattle. He's better-suited to a man blocking scheme. He struggled badly last year even before the switch, although part of that was due to the black hole at C.
That's why I can't really blame the O-line from last year. Wesley Johnson was horrendous at Center, so I want to see how they do with someone capable in between them.
This is year 2 of the rebuild. I am hoping for 8-8 and darnold takes over and plays better every week and goes 3-1 in December and looks like Romo. Playoff contender in 2019 amd super bowl contender in 2020. Thats my wish
No, I don't see the Jets making the playoffs in 2018. Still too many big holes on the roster that need to be filled like OL and Edge Rusher. On top of that, we have a rookie QB who may take a few lumps before becoming a FQB. This year is all about development and progress of our young players including Darnold. 2019 is when it is reasonable to expect a playoff team IMO. Plenty of time to address our biggest needs between now and then.
I once saw a man kill three guys in a bar with a pencil, with...a...fucking...pencil. So you never know.
It’s extremely difficult to make the playoffs when your only avenue is the wildcard. I’d be thrilled with meaningful December football for a change.
