Haha I know. What was it like back in the early 2000's? I was 12 in 2002 so didn't even know what a forum was.
He was very overrated out of Texas. Was never anything special in coverage & was never a dominant player. That said i actually think hed be really good in a 3rd safety/hybrid type of role. When he DOES wrap up he is a sure tackler including in space,he closes well, good blitzer & can play in the box. You dont want him playing 1 high all game but he Has experience doing so & wont get you killed if called upon. Additionally he has some ST upside; He was ST player of the year his Sophomore year at Texas. If hes used properly which hed be set up to do here,he’d be a very good addition. Depth/situational/subpackage/Special teams.
Several goo Several good safeties on the market. Teams were letting the market cool. Instead of paying 7-9 mill. They will get the players at close to league minimum.
If we want another safety, why not look at Eric Reid? Well, I know why, but still, if you want to find value at the safety position this late in the game it's sitting right there. I'd assume it's because Vaccaro is more of a "cover" safety? And I use quotation marks because he can't cover shit, that's just the position he plays. Disclaimer: this is not intended to turn this into a Kap thread. I don't care about him or his employment status.
I can't say much before 2002 because I was in service; I wasn't even a member here. I joined in the fall of 2002. After 2002 - that's when Pennington's heyday was coming to a close. Fucking Doug Brien. So Jets 1) traded away first round pick to the Raiders, 2) got Doug Jolley and 3) picked Mike Nugent in the 2nd round. Yeah. Fuck me. Jesus fucking Christ. The coach that "claimed" you play to win the game in fact played not to lose. It sucked balls. Terry Bradway was such a fucking retard. I still can't get over the Dslob pick. After that, I remember the raging flame war about Brian Schottenheimer. Then there was this infamous SDF, heralded by nyjunc. [Man, he would ramble on for EVER. On minutely tangential issues too! He just knows how to blow these tiny issues way out of proportion.] Pennington never had a red zone pick before Schottenheimer, just fyi. Favre showed up and then told Schottenheimer to "shove it up your ass." Then he went on to tear his bicep. Then he went to the Vikings and had a LOT of fun. Jesus. Just thinking abut it depresses me.
Wish I could have been part of it all. I joined right after Marky Sanchez's first year. I miss nyjunc though. Its been awhile since he has been around. Banned right?
Never knew that! I occasionally read the site then, but never posted. I'll bet you had your hands full. Things are pretty calm now. Back then I remember their being lots of insults and flame wars. Mr. Electric was one of the worst, I think.
