Even if McCown doesn't play, you let him stay in the building to mentor Sam for a year. You don't want that QB room to be Darnold, Hack and Teddy.
He already got his $5 million signing bonus so that’s counted as “guaranteed” money that goes against the cap. $10 mill fully guaranteed.
as the link states, the $5 mill signing bonus is the only part of his contract that is fully guaranteed
Which part of “he already got $5 million in cash” do you not understand. They can’t take it back, therefore it is already a guaranteed portion of his contract. But more importantly, the full $10 million goes against the cap.
you are reading it right, but OTC got it wrong in their own numbers http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/josh-mccown-4944/ the full 10 mil is guaranteed and he counts 10 mil against the cap with no savings whether we cut him or not.
But if Mac can sucker convince some team to trade for him they are responsible for the $5m ÷ # of games, right?
yea, i saw that as well. but i also saw the $5 mill guarantee in the link below so im more inclined to believe overthecap http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-j...complicated-qb-situation-not-as-easy-as-1-2-3
if another team claims him off waivers or he is traded then yes, the money they pay him for the rest of 2018 comes off our books. However if we cut him and he clears waivers then he can sit home and sitll conut 10mil against the cap or they can do like revis and the chiefs and someone pick him up for the vet minimum and we pay the difference Cimini got it wrong. he doens't cite a source. he likely looked at OTC and went by that. Most of these beat writes don't know dick about the cap
Any signing bonus you receive is considered a guaranteed portion of the contract. If McCown got a $10 signing bonus and a 1 year salary of $0 (not possible but just an example) he would still have a fully guaranteed $10 million contract. I know you get this but some people either don’t understand what they are reading or don’t understand the meaning of the word guarantee.
I wouldn't mind Bridgewater tutoring Darnold. He has been more successful than McCown ever been. McCown has a gigantic dark cloud over him and has lost everywhere he's been. What could he tell Darnold about winning in the NFL?
Regardless of winning though, McCown has seen it all while Teddy hasn't seen much since being in the league. I want McCown there to teach Sam how to carry himself, how to study, things like that. We don't know how much Teddy is willing to help Sam because remember he is only 25 and is trying to start in this league. McCown knows his place and that is to mentor and teach at this point.
