It seems like McCown IS that guy for now. Average old guy, but gets paid for his intangibles. Not exciting but makes sense in the context of this roster.
Lee made good strides towards the end of last season. The Jets have had a hard time playing him in the position they drafted him for, which is the role Deone Bucannon played for Arizona. I think the reason the Jets keep bolstering the d-line and secondary rather than OLB is to set Lee up for success in that type of role: http://m.azcardinals.com/news-and-e...Bucannon/fb037d79-62aa-472f-9fc1-8f1a0520c64a
Here is my shot for the record. This year was much harder than in the past (a good thing). Macc is going to have to cut some of his past draft picks, something he has tried to avoid. I expect many to find their way to the PS. I don't like just the two TEs but with Flowers and Enunwa, do we need more? LBs have the biggest question marks. I confess to going with Wint based solely on Manish's rave reviews from rookie tryouts. Anyway, here goes: QB: 14 Sam Darnold, 6-3 221 QB: 15 Josh McKown, 6-4 218 QB: 2 Teddy Bridgewater, 6-2 215 RB: 29 Bilal Powell, 5-10 204 RB: 20 Isaiah Crowell, 5-11 225 RB/KR: 25 Elijah McGuire, 5-10 214 RB/KR: 40 Trenton Cannon, 5-10 185 FB: 38 Dimitri Flowers, 6-2 248 WR: 10 Jermaine Kearse 6-1 209 WR: 11 Robby Anderson, 6-3 190 WR: 81 Quincy Enunwa, 6-2 225 WR: 1 Terrelle Pryor, 6-4 228 WR: 18 ArDarius Stewart, 5-11 204 WR: 16 Chad Hansen, 6-2 202 TE: 89 Chris Herndon, 6-4 253 TE: 83 Eric Tomlinson, 6-6 263 OT: 68 Kelvin Beachum, 6-3 308 OG: 77 James Carpenter, 6-5 321 C: 61 Spencer Long, 6-5 318 OG: 67 Brian Winters, 6-4 320 OT: 72 Brandon Shell, 6-5 324 OT: 71 Ben Ijalana, 6-4 322 OG/OT: 79 Brent Qvale, 6-7 315 C/OG: 64 Travis Swanson, 6-5 304 C/OG: 70 Dakota Dozier, 6-4 313 NT: 99 Steve McLendon, 6-3 310 DE: 92 Leonard Williams, 6-5 302 DE: 96 Henry Anderson, 6-6 301 DL: 98 Mike Pennel, 6-4 332 DE/NT: 97 Nathan Shepherd, 6-4 315 DE/NT: 94 Folorunso "Foley" Fatukasi, 6-4 318 ILB: 54 Avery Williamson, 6-1 238 ILB: 58 Darron Lee, 6-1 232 ILB: 53 Kevin Minter, 6-0 246 ILB: 56 Kevin Pierre-Louis, 6-1 232 ILB: XX Anthony Wint, 6-0 224 OLB: 48 Jordan Jenkins, 6-3 259 OLB: 95 Josh Martin, 6-3 245 OLB: 49 Dylan Donahue, 6-3 248 DE/OLB: 51 Brandon Copeland, 6-3 263 CB: 22 Trumaine Johnson, 6-2 213 CB: 21 Morris Claiborne, 5-11 192 CB: 41 Buster Skrine, 5-9 185 CB: 43 Parry Nickerson, 5-10 182 CB: 34 Jeremy Clark, Mich 6-3 220 CB: 32 Justin Burris, 6-0 212 SS: 33 Jamal Adams, 6-1 213 FS: 26 Marcus Maye, 6-0 207 FS: 23 Terrence Brooks, 5-11 200 SS: 45 Rontez Miles, 6-0 203 P: 4 Lachlan Edwards, 6-4 209 K: 6 Nick Rose, 6-2 200 LS: 42 Thomas Hennessy, 6-2 246
I hope you are right. Really like Mauldin coming out of college, and have been disappointed with his struggles. The Jets have only cut two guys drafted by MacCagnan so far, Petty and Jarvis Harrison, both from the 2015 draft class. Being that Mauldin is from that class as well, I think it is safe to say that this preseason is put up or shut up time for Mauldin.
Nice list. I'm intrigued by your selection of Anthony Wint to make the roster. Can you tell us more about him? I'm not overly familiar. Speaking of linebackers, a guy to watch is Frankie Luvu. That man can hit.
Check out Manish's text regarding the rookie tryout camp. He reports that Wint was a stand out. It really looks wide open for the backups at both inside and outside LBs this season.
Will Robby Anderson be suspended by the league? If so it creates an extra spot until he gets back from his suspension
QB: Sam Darnold, Josh McCown , Bridgewater/Hack depending on how Teddy's knee holds up 3 Running back: Bilal Powell, Isaiah Crowell, Elijah McGuire, Trenton Cannon 4 FB: Flowers 1 WR: Anderson, Kearse, Pryor, Quincy Enunwa, Chad Hansen, Ardarius Stewart 6 Tight End: Herndon , Leggett, Tomlinson 3 Tackle: Beachum, Shell, Ijalana , Qvale 4 Guard: Carpenter, Winters, Dozier 3 Center: Long, Swanson 2 Defensive End: Williams, Sheperd Anderson, Cooper,4 Defensive Tackle: Mclendon, Pennel, Fatukasi 3 Outside LB: Jenkins, Martin, Copeland, Mauldin 4 Inside LB: Lee, Williamson, Minter, Hewitt 4 Corner back: Johnson, Claiborne, Robinson, Nickerson, Skrine 5 Safeties:Adams, Maye, Miles,Brooks 4 Special Teams: Santos, Edwards, Hennessey 3
QB- Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold - McCown starts, Bridgewater stays on as insurance, Darnold becomes defacto #2...He's shown he's not quite ready so McCown holds fort. RB- Isaiah Crowell, Bilal Powell, Elijah McGuire, Trenton Cannon - Crowell is the bell cow, Cannon makes team due to speed and sub package sets ..Also KR. FB- Lawrence Thomas - Thomas fends off rookie from Oklahoma, he will end up on PS for time being. WR- Robby Anderson, Quincy Enumwa, Jermaine Kearse, Chad Hansen, Ardarius Stewart, Terrelle Pryor *Charles Johnson (if Robby gets suspended) - Pryor shows he still has a lot in the tank, Enumwa gets right back at it, very deep group IMO. TE- Jordan Leggett, Eric Tomlinson, Clive Walford, Chris Herndon - Leggett shows why Jets are high on him, Tomlinson is the best blocking TE, Walford makes it due to Herndon going to short term IR as he continues to recover. C Spencer Long, Travis Swanson OG- James Carpenter, Brian Winters, Dakota Dozier OT- kelvin Beachum, Brandon Shell, Ben Ilajana - Jets hope continuity is the game here. Last spot maybe down to Dozier and Swanson IMO with a slight edge to Dozier versatility but I'll guess Swanson makes it. DL- Leonard Williams, Henry Anderson, Steve McLendon, Nathan Shepard, Folo Fatukasi, Xavier Cooper - Anderson is a VERY stout run defender when healthy, I think he can be an asset here. The development of the rookies will be key here. Taking 7 DL maybe a lot, so I'd guess if Anderson is hurt he doesn't make it, or Cooper becomes a tough cut (I like him ) OLB- Jordan Jenkins, Josh Martin, David Bass, Lorenzo Mauldin, Dylan Donahue, Freddie Bishop - Jordan Jenkins came into his own, but I feel Martin could be more of a player. If anyone else wants to pass rush, please step up! MLB- Darron Lee, Avery Williamson, Kevin Pierre Louis, Kevin Minter - the Jets basically brought two vets in to combat the possibility that Lee or Williamson aren't every down LB's. Lee struggled last year in coverage, Titans mostly subbed out Avery on pass downs. They will get their chances but I expect to see KPL play a lot... CB- Trumaine Johnson, Morris Claiborne, Buster Skrine, Parry Nickerson, Juston Burris, Jeremy Clark - The two starters are set. Parry being a potential sleeper could spell the end of Skrine here. Keeton or Robinson may make a play here...I'm not really sure of the 3-4 big young corners right now. S- Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye, Terrence Brooks, Rontez Miles - K- Cairo Santos P- Lachlan Edwarda LS- Thomad Hennessy I have 54, I'd guess Minter or one of the DL hits the PS.
Thank you for an interesting and informative post. My initial thought was how weak the jets are at OLB-- to be potentially starting a special teamer like Martin. Nothing against him, but an edge rusher he is not.
Martin earned the role with good effort and consistent play but ideally we'd like a significant talent upgrade. As you said, he isn't the sort of pass rusher the Jets could really benefit from.
You think they can tag him for $24M and someone will trade a good draft pick too? I know teams are desperate for QBs, but I don't see someone trading a great pick form Teddy making $24M.
Jonny,,,,I took the high road with my reply but its hard to argue with you the guy has shown zilch and should have been cut last year.
That's for the franchise tag, no? Could they not use the transitional tag? Besides, teams ARE desperate. The Dolphins just signed Petty. If Luck is unable to play this season, don't you think they'd be willing to give Teddy $24 million for a season? Also, just because he is tagged, is that locked in? Couldn't the team trading for him negotiate a long-term deal paying less per season?
With Long, Ijialana and Qvale all able to play guard, I doubt Dozier makes the final 53. I think McGuire & Cannon are either/ors. I think we keep 3 tight ends with Tomilson & Herndon being two of them. I could see Kearse getting cut. Could be a very expensive 4th WR taking snaps away from Stewart & Hansen. OLB is going to be interesting, Jenkins is the only one I'd be shocked to see not on the team.
While I think it is possible that he balls out this year, gets tagged and someone decides to pay a draft pick and pay Teddy a huge contract, I think it's very improbable. And yes, the Dolphins did sign Petty (or claim him, rather) as they 4th QB. And they will owe Petty the same amount as the Jets if he is cut...dick. And no, I don't think the Colts pay the Jets a good draft pick and Teddy big money. If Luck is hurt, they probably suck and look for their next QB in the draft. If we're just talking about hypothetical, what happens if Teddy balls out and wins the SB and is the MVP? Then we can trade Darnold. And a team will offer a first round draft choice and we'll say, NO! 3 first round draft choices and David God Damn Putney, because I feel like it.
Kudos to xx Kleko and Mog for the mock rosters..honestly a nice job! Group looks like it brings us a solid 6 wins??? 3 Wins with Bowles screw ups ..sigh
