Was it Rosen or Mayfield? God willing it wasn’t Josh Allen. They’ve been saying since they took him they didn’t expect him to be there. So I wonder who was #2 on the board. Or was it really Denzel Ward?
They traded up for one of Darnold, Rosen or Mayfield. It’s always been obvious that they didn’t trade up for one QB. It just so happened that the QB they liked the best was available to them.
I have it on good authority that he traded up for Nathan Shepard. Old Mac was so excited and he KNEW the fans also would be ecstatic to have a large big man with 2 sack potential, the media would be slobbering his brass balls for this! But alas after some heavy convincing from the children in the war room Mac elected to get the QB. Old Mac knew that next year was going to be a loaded D line class and he could use all of our picks on them, this relaxed Old Mac but his heart skipped a beat when he found out big Nathan Shepard was on the board in the 3rd round, how could this happen , what are the other teams missing?!? The war room children tried to stop the chipmunked face man but the card was in.
They traded up for Derwin James. We really needed that 3rd starting safety in the defensive backfield. But once Darnold fell, they had a change of heart.
Can't wait till training camp so we can talk about players performance on the field and much less about suppositions and what ifs. Fact is,we were giving an unbelievable gift with Darnold, hope this CS doesn't screw that up.
we'll likely never know. It doens't seem like it was jackson at all, but could have been allen, mayfield or rosen. Doubt we'll ever find out be we got the number 1 on our board so we should be happy
They traded up for Mayfield. When he was gone at #1 they settled for Darnold. No way they thought they had a shot at Darnold. Since Darnold declared for the draft he was the #1 pick in the draft. So you have to ask yourselves what scared Cleveland off?
Quite a way to word that question... Everyone and their mother had this guy as the top ranked prospect for a year now. You’re going to wonder what the Cleveland Browns, the most embarrassing organization in the entire league, saw in Darnold that scared them off? The question should be how did the Browns fuck this up again? I was a massive Mayfield supporter but there’s no chance in hell I would have taken him first overall over Darnold.
The same reason Cleveland has drafted bust after bust for the last e decades, they're are complete idiots, case closed.
So they traded up assuming their preferred player would be taken and set their sites on the consolation prize. Yet when Cleveland shocked the world by taking the consolation prize the Jets "settled" for taking the top QB on their board? I think your hatred for Mac has blinded you to reality.
Could have been Mayfield. Could have been Rosen we'll never know. Doesnt mean Darnold scared off the Browns though. Just means they think Mayfield fit what they want to do better. One thing for sure, I could care less, its not like a winning team stayed off of Darnold. Its the Browns.
Did my friend, Steve, really want Chicken Chow Mein or Moo Goo Gai Pan as #2 from the Chinese take-out menu? Chop Suey fell to him from Column A, which he never believed would be there, but I guess we'll never know.
The question really is who were their top three, not simply who was second, because the trade was made to ensure they got one of the top three QB’s and they had no way of knowing that the Giants would go RB or not trade out when they made the trade.
Except, to follow your reasoning, they tradedup for Mayfield because they expected him to be there at three which would mean the Browns would have passed on him just as they actually did with Darnold. And if the Jets are to be concerned about a QB simply because the Browns didn’t take them, that would apply to any QB that would have been available to them. That doesn’t even account for the fact that if the Jets traded up specifically for Mayfield it didn’t mean they thought he was the top QB in the draft, it simply means they thought he would still be there at three.
