Have read that they showed him the door because Woody hated the guy. Woody said Mangini and his Belichick like paranoia left him feeling like he wasn't welcome when around his team.

Hard to complain about a staff that gets to 8-3.

And you've seen this future already? Tell us what the Trifecta will be in the Kentucky Derby. Plenty of players have had ambition and motors. But you still need talent and coming from Fort Hays DII its gonna be difficult. Just saying.

if there were only 11 games it would be hard to complain about a staff that gets to 8-3. but there are 16 games

Damon Harrison played at the same level and he turned out good. Some positions, certainly the transition from Division 2 to the NFL is extremely difficult, but his role on the defensive line is a little different.

They will tell Shepherd to eat up blockers. He will use his big ass frame to do that. He doesn't need to diagnose plays or follow the ball, etc. Just fill the hole. He's big enough and athletic enough. I think he will do just fine

Hey well, you already seemed convinced this is a wasted pick, I guess we're both looking at different forthcoming results? :p It takes more than just talent - Coples and Gholston are great examples of this. Our DL was decimated with these so called talented players , Mo and Sheldon, so it had to be addressed.

They were 24th in the entire league in stopping the run. The performance showcased by Shepherd at the Senior Bowl, though it was only practice, must have been been very convincing. Jets may be looking for lightening in a bottle - but Shepherd looks like he can help.

At this time of the year right after the draft, they all look talented and the best thing since sliced bread. But the NFL is a huge step up in play and it has swallowed up thousands of players like this. The percentage of him being just good is extremely low. What will hinder him the most is Bowles and Rodgers, One can't deal with players and the other can't coach them.

You can say that about any payer picked in the later rounds , especially at 3. I was listening to a scout on the radio this morning who ranked Shepherd as the 50th best player in the draft , overall. And a few others thought he would also go in the 2nd round. For him to last to the 3rd and to the Jets, there are many experts that thought it was a great pick. At 6'4 and 314, with that much mass and quickness, how can this not be a good pick?

Most of the assessments here are way off the mark. Beating him up on his age, as if he is the first and last to enter the draft at 24, same as Baker by the way, so I assume he will be a bust too. Comments about him not being ready till he is 28, are even more insane. Where did that come from?
All I know is that he is hungry, gives 100% on every play, and has the motor to succeed. It was rated high by many experts before the draft, while many of the critics here never even heard of him till they called his name.
I'm willing to give him a chance, because his intangibles and commitment are far more than the combined desires and efforts put forth by Coples, Gholston and the second coming of Mo, all put together. Fuck, I'll take that on the third round and see.
It's interesting to note that the Giants needed lots of help in the OL as well, but did not see enough value in all 7 rounds to pull the trigger. But what do they know? It's just Mac not knowing better.

And the starting QB tore his arm up after that game vs the Pats that got them to 8-3. Point is they turned to shit when Favre was injured, not because the coaching staff turned to shit after 11 games.

And how hard is it to go from college to NFL as a DL? Its not a difficult transition like QB, WR or CB. He either has the talent or he doesnt. Now if the point were that you cant be as sure to what he is given the competition he played against, maybe. Mayfield fans argued that it made no difference for months, so.....

Would’ve loved to see how far Favre takes us in 2009, although Sanchez did play well in the playoffs. I think it would’ve been less about playoff performance and more about taking the division, which was won at only 10-6 that year (rare for the East). That team probably goes all the way with a home game and first round bye.

Not sure how that got going in a thread about our 3rd round DL though haha

that wasn't that impressive. In a game the pass would be gone easily. He went way outside on a guard in a drill. I dont see how that is impressive

Funny, because all the scouts in attendance found it impressive and were reporting that Shepherd was one of the winners of the senior bowl practices until his injury. Perhaps you just need to take off the darksider glasses.

On a 5-step/7-step drop that pass would be gone? You also have no idea where the QB is in the play. I think he's talking strictly in terms of getting by his man. I'll go with the scouts who said he was impressive at the senior bowl, no offense.

Also the only reason I posted it is because another poster was praising the Giants for going with an OL in the second round while we didn't take any.

he might've impressed at the Senior Bowl. I didn't watch all the plays. I'm just looking at 1 single practice drill that was posted. He showed some quick hands there but it wasn't particularly impressive

well I mean my comments aren't on the senior bowl as a whole, I'm sure he impressed. He would have had to had to have to be a D2 kid selected in round 3.

that particular play though, he goes outside the guard, its 4 seconds before he's around him all the way outside the guard. How fast or should I say, slow, do you think NFL QBs operate?

idk, its not a big deal, and I'm not going after you I just hate simple tweets like that.
