Reports are surfacing that NE would’ve leaped the Jets for Baker Imagine if CLE took Darnold, Pats jumped us for Mayfield and the Jets took Allen. Oh man. Couldn’t be happier with how it played out.
Hey, heyo, hiyo! Just caught some of your posts! Welcome! Fellow female here (Word Play). I didn't attend a 'football' school, so I don't harbor any particular college team loyalty. I only used to watch Bowl games on occasion, been to a few Army/Navy, Army/Airforce games, never really followed college ball to any great degree (heh), pretty much just read draft analysis when draft day was approaching. I have been watching a lot more in general over the last couple of years, though. I do know that college football fans are absolutely wacky maniacal about their teams, haha. Yeah, as someone.already mentioned, Tebowmania was a sick gig with an endless rabble of Tebots. It was like he was the freaking Second Coming. Literally. Then when The Penn State Horror came out, what a freak show. Not essentially here, just in general. I followed that case very closely because, well, reasons. The way Penn State students were protesting over enabling-a-pedo Joe Pa (see said freak show) made me fit to puke. And then they carried on when his statue came down. GTF outta here with that; on top of the fact that Paterno's son was 1000% delusional. And Sandusky's wife? I wanted to strangle her to death with my bare hands. "I heard screams coming from the basement sometimes. I didn't think anything of it." WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?! Your husband was torturing cats? And you didn't give a shit about it, anyway? She knew exactly what he was doing. I'm convinced of it. She just turned a blind eye. What a stupid rotten bitch. I get that some college teams are the lifeblood and the only thing going on in some cities/towns, economically and entertainment-wise, I've just never personally been a part of something like that so it's a little hard for me to relate to. Anyway, thanks for the insight, inside skinny, and first hand knowledge, much appreciated. Again, welcome! GO JETS!!!
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nf...-browns-mind-on-darnold/ar-AAwz18G?li=BBnbfcL "Here's the honest to God's truth," he said. "From the start of this college football season to the end of the season, I had Darnold No. 1 and Baker No. 2, (Josh) Rosen No. 3, (Lamar) Jackson No. 4 and (Josh) Allen after that. "On our way through everything, you couldn't tell me Darnold wasn't the best. I did all my evaluations of the season. "Then comes the part where you meet them off the field. You watch their workouts. You watch everything. And Baker blew me away. Highly, highly intelligent. Highly competitive. "And he had a trait that some of the good ones have. I call it efficacy. That includes the power to effect other people. I thought that of all the quarterbacks I watched, he stood out far and above the other guys. When he walked into a room, you knew he was there." So despite that he believed Darnold was the better QB all the way through the seasons tape, Mayfeild convinced them with his persona. I really like Baker the QB, but this just seems a little off to me. Cleveland being Cleveland type of off. yeesh. Days later and I still can't believe we got Darnold, thanks for the gift!
I don't think it's outlandish. If they were players in Madden that were encapsulated by a string of numbers, Mayfield would probably rank low, but football is a team game full of human beings with personalities and that kind of thing actually matters. I'm not sure it matters enough to rank the guy first, but I'm not going to rule it out either.
It’s just weird because Darnold’s personality and leadership are also very highly regarded (and he’s only 20 as opposed to 23), so him losing their top spot over intangibles is a head scratcher
The thing that’s been sticking out after watching Darnold’s introductory interviews is that he’s incredibly boring. For NY, this is a very good thing, but I guess Cleveland wants to make more of a splash. I think the quote from the combine about wanting to turn them around might’ve hooked them a little bit, and you’ll never get a sound bite like that from Sam.
The Football Wildman has a certain allure, especially to a city as boring as Cleveland, which is basically the equivalent of a warm glass of milk.
I don't think its outlandish just a bit odd. Its not like Darnold lacks in the area, Also, admitting that you had Darnold #1 through most of it is unheard. It's a weird interview to even give.
You can believe it 100%. Franchises can be a little dirty in their dealings with these players. Sam and his people were told they were going to take Sam #1 up until the end. That’s why he was a little stunned...wearing the brown tie, etc. I’d say he dodged a bullet. He got to be drafted by a team and city he was personally taken with. Franchises change their minds all the time, but when you play it a little dirty (they could have told him before the draft he wasn’t the #1) it could affect them in free agency when a good and much needed player turns them down because they can’t trust the franchise. Some of these FO people love smoke and mirrors, go for the flash. Baker may do really well there, because that is something they lack...hype and flash. Sam is PERFECT for NY, he’s focused on his team, can handle the limelight and not embarrass his team and coaches, his behavior off the field is spotless, that has been documented numerous times.
He’s a true sophomore this season, coaches and fans are really excited about him, another high character kid who can block, juke and a home run hitter. So fun to watch.
wow, I can't believe they admitted it like that. When you change your draft board over intangibles in this direction, it doesn't often work out. I hope both Darnold and Mayfield turn out to be good because I like both players but damn, I can't believe the Browns. Thanks for sharing
Browns been talking crap on all of the prospects; mentioning why they didn't select them. Josh Allen: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...naccuracy-was-a-problem-for-alonzo-highsmith/ Josh Rosen: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...n-josh-rosen-something-about-him-bothered-me/ Sam Darnold: https://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/04/ba...alonzo-highsmith-draft-quarterback-reason-nfl Bad look by the Browns, Mayfield better be an All Pro and lead them to a SB.
Wow, its so unusual that they let this happen. Interesting info and nothing that had not leaked for the most part, but I can't believe they addressed it directly.
Well, the Browns FO are desperate. Cleveland fans were not happy about the choice, kept arms crossed, turned their backs when Baker was announced. Personally, I think they got the QB they deserved, for the good reasons, and the bad.
