Ok, now that Darnold is drafted, I think it's pretty clear that there are people on this forum that drew lines in the sand for certain players. There were Darnold fans who kicked in for other options because they didn't think he'd be there. But there were also Mayfield, Allen and Rosen fans who were sold beyond a doubt about their guy. Today, I'd like to talk about the Rosen fans. Obviously, Rosen fans will put big play ability early because he has Larry Fitz as his main option. This will be the primary comparison. They will also focus on the running game, even though that will not be something that contributes to, they will just find ways that he could have an affect on it. Rosen fans will attack Darnold's character. "I mean he isn't even saying he wants to start! That is the sign of a loser! Is he ever going to get a Twitter account? What does he think about Trump??" Most of all, Rosen fans will attack FOOTWORK and THROWING MOTION. Because you always attack the main competition of your favorite binky with his strength and something the BAD GUY does not excel at, even if it doesn't hurt his overall game. I'm looking toward to the first 4 years as fun, at least until Rosen joins Tebow on an NCAA broadcast desk. Definitely will be a fun 4 years.
I thought Rosen was our best option i didn’t think for one second darnold would get past Cleveland let alone the giants
I think I will not bother to watch the games yet nonetheless write four paragraph essays about them and ridicule people who deign not to agree with me.
As one who wanted Rosen over the rest I call bullshit. My plan was to watch only cardinal prime time games and cherry pick stats off of draft kings.
I preferred Rosen, but I am over it. Now I am concerned about our (lack of) offensive line. I wouldnt be surprised if we kept Darnold on the bench to not expose him to this disaster.
I'm looking forward to seeing him sit on the bench for 1/2 the year. That will give him time to adjust to NFL speeds. It also will allow the OL to toughen up and learn the zone blocking assignments. I think by then he will be ready to show some "stuff".
I had been drawing hearts around pictures of Rosen's face since November, but Darnold was the right pick. I truly believe this is the only kid in the draft that will ultimately provide this franchise with the stability it's lacked since 2005.
NFC Championship Game 2021 Packers 20-17 Cardinals (3:20 left on the clock) ROSEN (clearly concussed): “There in the stands, standing near the exit ramp...” CARDINALS OFFENSIVE LINE: “What?” ROSEN: “...isn’t that John Candy?” CARDINALS OFFENSIVE LINE: “Nah, that’s Oprah Winfrey. John Candy died 25 years ago” ROSEN: “Let’s go” (Rosen throws pick 6)
I was Darnold over Rosen for a long time, then switched to Rosen over Darnold, but kept them very close labeling them 1A and 1B. I'm more than happy to have Darnold with us and will be rooting for him. I don't care what Rosen does from here forward because he's an Arizona Cardinal. The only way you will hear me or other Rosen supporters complaining is if in 5 years Darnold is no longer with the Jets while Rosen has the Cardinals as consistent contenders. I doubt Rosen fans will be the only ones complaining at that point. You probably would be as well. With all that said, I'm 110% behind Sam and I'm pulling for him. He was my 1A longer than he was my 1B and really, I just never thought he'd make it to 3 because I never thought the Giants would be as stupid as they were after Cleveland was as stupid as they were.
Mayfield was my favorite but most short QBs (Brees, Manziel, etc,) in the past seemed to come at a bit of a discount. Darnold is the only other QB in this draft that I took seriously.
We gave up 25 sacks last year. Not sure how Many were coverage or McCopter refusing to get rid of the ball. Compare to the 50+ sacks QB’s we’re taking in the 80’s and 90’s and it becomes more clear why new QB’s were sitting back then. The line is bad, but at around 1.7 sacks a game, they’re unlikely to get the kid killed. Time will tell if the OL is a solid reason to hold the kid back.
Watching the games...... do you really think the lack of sacks was the O-lines pass protection, or roll-out pass plays, and McCowns constant scrambling (one thing he deserves ALOT of credit for last season) ?
No doubt it factors, but I don’t think the line was giving up 50+ sacks either way. Perhaps with a completely shell shocked rookie who doesn’t belong, but I think we have a guy who does. A guy who’s known for making plays and being comfortable (if not a bit form sloppy) outside of the pocket.
