The chances of darnold actually sitting the entire year are about 0.01... we drafted him with the third effing pick. All that matters is selling jerseys and seats. He’s playing by game 5 at the very latest like it or not

It's better here than I thought....expected loud boos and expletives on draft day from Jet fans, so it's a tea party compared to what I was expecting.

I am sure it can be tightened but a complete overhaul to his throwing motion sounds a bit optimistic. Fixing a throwing motion and getting someone to throw a football differently and still be accurate while working on everything else they need to learn sounds unrealistic. That being said, I would be curious to see some analysis on how much his hitch actually hurts him? Where is Xxedge when we need him. How quickly does he get rid of the ball? Does his motion cause him to carry the ball in an unsecure position hat effects ball security? Certainly a longer windup can result in not only more interceptions but more fumbles as he exposing the ball longer.

It’s probably in between but it’s more likely he starts from day one than sits the entire season

My bet is Bowles does it just like he did last year. Mccown will get reps early and then step aside and Sam will have every opportunity to win the job.

I say if he's ready to play this season, let him. But neither he, nor the team, nor us as fans, should be discouraged if he DOESN'T play yet.

I hate to break it to you, but:

Bowles already said in the post draft press conference that the coaches think his throwing motion is fine. Don't expect to see it overhauled anytime soon.

    Much to do about nothing.

I didn't say a complete overhaul, but that may be what he needs. Remember, that he's only been playing QB for 3-4 years, 5 tops. He probably never got any real QB coaching in HS and may not have gotten any more at USC. Remember that HS and College coaches aren't in the business of preparing players to play in the NFL. They're only trying to win games and advance their own careers. So with Darnold being young and not having a decade or more of muscle memory, he may be able to fix or at least significantly tweak his throwing motion. What I have read scouts say is that the hitch slows down his throwing motion and the ball doesn't get out as quickly, and will give DBs a chance to break on the ball.

I don't know if it's his throwing motion that causes him to hold the ball too low or if he was just never taught the correct position to hold the ball in the pocket, but he holds it too low, down around his waist instead of up around his shoulders.

I don't get the point. You said all that stuff about Peyton, yet his rookie season was awful. My point was not comparing the two QB's, it was saying Peyton had a really rough rookie season and still became one of the best QB's ever. So if Darnold wins the starting job, he could take his lumps and move forward in 2019. I wouldn't hold him back if he truly outplayed McCown, Bridgewater, etc in camp. However, if he is not ready, he is not ready.

Fans keep bringing up the media and fans. Who cares? It is a real loser mentality to think that way. People say Sam is mature and blocks that stuff out. I hope that is true, because the NY Media is annoying no matter what, as are NY fans. You are right though. That will happen if he doesn't instantly succeed once he is on the field.

The obsession with the throwing motion is entirely misguided.

Bowles already alluded to this, but the thing about Darnold is that he is capable of speeding up his throwing motion when he needs to (i.e. when he is under duress) and is also capable of throwing from many different launch points, essentially throwing the ball from different angles (which is part of the reason why he is so good at throwing the ball on the run and off balance)

We'll see just how fine that throwing motion is. Bowles is a total doofus when it comes to offense. You can choose to believe him if yoiu want. I don't trust anything he says.

Again, he was (in part) reporting on what the offensive coaches think. Whether you like it or not, the Jets aren't concerned about his throwing motion.

And, as I already mentioned, neither am I.

Not actually true though. Soul and Science found that his release time was on average .44 of a second. For perspective, Josh Allen’s was .38 of a second. His release/time are fine. If it messed with his accuracy, that would be a reason to fix it.

Darnold needs coaching with his footwork (can be coached/learned) and holding the football with two hands (also can be coached/learned)

Derek Carr clocks at .45 secs? Wasn't it close to .30 instead?
