Not hating the pick, it was the best thing we could do at #3, and I feel he could be a very good QB, but his lack of fire and "I've got to be me" attitude is pretty bland for NY. On the other hand Mayfield was on a podcast recently and said, “Kill me before I let you win.” Those seven words, describe a fierce competitor. These two blue collar will be linked like Luck and RG3 or Peyton and Leaf and we know how they turn out for the 2nd pick. I'm hoping this draft proves the Browns and any haters wrong. As a LONG time Jets fan I'll get his jersey when he picks his number and be cheering for the kid. He can't be any worse than Sanchez and I bought his Jersey.

The attitude you’re worried about defines two time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning...

I will not let the darksiders ruin this pick for me. For once things are looking up for Jets fans, minus a few "fans" who will never be happy.

I'm glad they got him. I'm simply worried about protecting and developing him..

Got a bad feeling we won’t know his number until we know if Andre Roberts made the team or not...

I'm not a Colin Cowherd fan by any stretch, but I saw a video of him talking about Darnold and he made a good point. Out of the big name QBs in the draft Darnold fits the mold best to make in it NY. All of the greats in NY sports in recent memory were the types who never gave the media a quote, did their jobs, and who you knew would stay out of trouble. Darnold fits that mold, can't say the same about the others.

Even when Colon Cowturd is right it is an accident. He has no idea what he's talking about. He has a couple of sources that he parrots, flavored with his personal brand of superficial benny douchery.

That's exactly the type of guy you need in this market.

Baker Mayfield would have flamed out in less than 3 years. The guy keeps favoriting tweets and screenshotting critics. Imagine all the tweets he'd have to save after a 3 INT performance? That kid is not for long in the NFL. We are very lucky to have Sam Darnold. Here's hoping we don't ruin him.

here is the post I made back in January when I didn't think we'd get Darnold. A summary of a great review from a USC insider:
    ------

I listened to an interview with Petros Papadakis this morning all about Sam Darnold. Papadakis is a former USC fullback from the late 90s who is now a sports radio host in LA and still very connected to USC football, for those that don't know, maybe everyone does, idk. I was a fan of Darnold before but Papadakis' review has me completely smitten. He said he has seen all the USC QBs in recent years very closely and Darnold is way different & better than all of them (that would mean guys like Sanchez, Kessler, Barkley, Leinart, Carson Palmer)

He said what a lot of people outside of the area don't know is what makes Darnold different from the rest of those guys ( I paraphrase) is that Darnold is not soft like they were. Darnold didn't grow up in these fancy passing academies like all of them, he wasn't thinking NFL at an early age, transferring to some prep school to showcase his talents, or anything. He grew up in a small town and played for his local high school, playing QB and linebacker, with the goal of winning above all, he was actually recruited to play linebacker at USC.

He described Darnold as a "football player"...where guys like Barkley, Sanchez, Kessler and darnold's draft competition -- JOSH ROSEN as "professional athletes" .. It sounds weird perhaps in this post but in the context of what he was saying it made sense. Those guys aimed for self improvement with the goal of a professional career from day 1. (not necessarily a bad thing) - - Darnold is different - he just showed up and played football and tried to win games for his team.
    --

it wasn't just a personality thing though the guy talked about Darnold's play on the field. very honest assessment. He said that Darnold's "struggles" in 2017 are overblown. He offer sharp criticism of USC's coaching staff saying that they never once were interested in protecting their QB. They never called any "max protect" plays like a lot of college coaches do and figured leaving their 5-star offensive line and Darnold out on their own would be enough- even after it was long proven that it wasn't. He said, even just bringing a TE in to block once in awhile would've helped Darnold and the turnovers were a result of the staff asking too much of Darnold after his incredible Rose Bowl the year before, they became over-reliant.

He also said while everyone is aware of his ability to perform in pressure moments that just from a passing standpoint alone Darnold's accuracy is very underrated. Negatively he said Darnold's hands are small and that he keeps the ball too low. The small hands are going to be a story at the combine and hurt him in the draft as some will attribute it to his turnover issues
    --

long post but I thought you guys might like to hear that review. I hope our Jets get this guy. cheers

“I really think he’s interested in winning,” Parcells told The Post on Sunday. “I say this in a complimentary way, I don’t think he’s ready to be a star, if you know what I mean. Some of these guys come out of the draft and they’re ready to be a star. I think he’s ready to be a football player.”

There is no higher compliment from Parcells than being called a football player. Phil Simms, Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson, Curtis Martin and Vinny Testaverde were all football players.

    That right there boyos.

They tweeted that numbers would be out Friday when rookie mini camp starts. They did make a note that numbers could change throughout the summer. I suspect Darnold will have his number this week and the through the summer comment is meant for the other rookies.
