I remember him and his brother posted here a week or two after that draft. Said something about their mom making pork chops for dinner.

I remember that too, we blasted him for making us all look terrible. Those 2 years after the draft may have been rough on them as Jets fans as Sanchez was winning games haha

More like the jets were winning games in spite of Sanchez

Well, I have to give Sanchez some credit...He did lead us on that drive in the Colts playoff game where we won on the field goal. He also led the comeback against the Steelers in the 2nd half of the AFC Championship game after that horrendous start. But he just totally faltered after that.

Anyways, Greenberg is quite excited about Darnold. very hilarious video of him continuing to share his enthusiasm during his show Get Up

Sean McVay told Jeff Darlington that if he didn't have Goff he'd have sold the farm for Mayfield.

Bowles has also been dropping hints that Mayfield was #1 on the Jets board.

Take it for what it's worth:

Shocker that ESPN Cleveland would talk up Mayfield.

That's just not true, Bowles never shares details like that. Mac and Bowles are very disciplined in that way. Sam has been the same way...Michael Kay show asked him who his favorite QB was and he gave a list of a bunch of QB's he watches film on but did not answer it directly.

Browns gonna make themselves feel good about their pick no matter what. They have to justify #1 overall to their audience base.

There are 32 teams in the NFL, I think 31 would pick Darnold over Mayfield. The Browns can say whatever they want though. I don't mind since Sam Darnold is a Jet. Saying Bowles said that is moronic though. Steven A Smith asked if Darnold was #1 on his board and Bowles just Bowlesed it up like he always does not answering the question or giving info. Cleveland guy made it sound like that means Mayfield was #1 on the Jets board, but really that is just how Bowles talks if you follow the Jets at all.

Curious to see what # Darnold picks. I recently saw a video of a sullen Mayfield in the Browns equipment room going "yea six I guess"

Darnold wore 14 at USC but 18 in high school. Somebody had 18 at USC when he got there.

Someone might be in his ear that 14 leaves a bad taste in jet fans mouths, he is one of the few top QB's who hasn't chosen a number , gotta think if not 14 then it's 18, the available 3 or maybe 4

Charley Casserly who is a former GM and very well connected polled 24 NFL GM's and 17 said they have Darnold as #1.

I don't think even Cleveland had Mayfield 1. Just have a feeling Haslam made that call.

What hint did Bowles drop to suggest this?

In the video of his call to a Darnold, he’s grinning ear to ear and says “we never thought you’d be here”.

I don't care much for 6. Not even because of Sanchez but for how it looks on a QB.

Darnold would be good as a 17 or 16 I feel

Hate to bring this up, but what happens if the Jets fail to develop Darnold? What happens if they turn Sam Darnold into David Carr or Joey Harrington? Its not like this organization has a successful resume when it comes to home grown Qb's. In fact, they're more prone to turn a diamond into a lump of coal than the other way around.

Just imagine the fallout. This organization would be savaged by the Tri-state Media not to mention the social media impact from various fan-based forums.

There are a few reasons for optimism:

Jeremy Bates- He has a proven track record of helping QBs in a big way. I believe he is the right man for the job. I have no idea how he will be as a play caller, but from a pure QB developement stand point, I think he is great.

Scheme Fit- The west coast offense is just what the doctor order when it comes to Darnold. He is accurate when in the pocket and when timing is thrown off, he will be able to create. Some QBs are drafted into a system that does not allow them to play to their strengths. We do not have to worry about that with this offense.

Darnold is INCREDIBLE off script- He is magic when moving and escaping would be tackled inside and outside the pocket. You can’t coach this. None of the other QBs in this class do it as well as him. This will be a huge asset for Darnold in the early years for his development. Big Ben wasn’t a polished passer coming out of College, but he was able to create and that helped him wary in his career while he was still learning.

Darnold’s Demeanor- Never too high, never too low. Say what you want about Eli Manning, but that guy is a perfect example of clutch/calm. I think of Eli when I watch Darnold.

Darnold’s Flaws are all coachable- Fumbling is a VERY correctable issue. He is accurate and we all know from experience that this is something that almost never improves over time. Darnold will need to play less “hero ball”, but again, good coaching will fix/minimize this.

The one concern I have is that the Jets do not make it a top priority to surround this guy with premier talent on the offensive side of the ball. Next offseason, they must get playmakers and an Oline that will allow him to become the elite Qb he has the legit potential to become.

This is a GREAT time to be a jet fan. You just have to hope for next offseason to be all about the offense and I think it will. The bears have done this year 2 with Trubisky. The Jets should follow suit.

Then we'll get a well deserved regime change and be back at square one again.

The key is Chris Johnson. If 2018 is a dumpster fire, he can fire Mac and Bowles and install a better coach/front office combination. Like how the Rams got rid of Jeff Fisher, brought in Sean McVay, and watched Goff go from awful to great. But for that to work, Chris has to know what he's doing.

I’m actually fine with Bowles and Mac. I think the QB play has killed them. If they can block for Sam, things could turn around very quickly.

According to Brian Costello, this is horseshit:

    https://nypost.com/2018/04/26/jets-get-quarterback-sam-darnold-at-no-3/

Also, Bowles seemed pretty f*cking pumped about Darnold when they called him and clearly said to Darnold: "We didn't think you'd be here," on the phone.
