This kid is not even old enough to buy a beer. I don’t want to hear any conversation of this kid starting the season. It should be a 100% Redshirt year. The ideal situation for the Jets is for Bridgewater to start from day 1 and have Josh McCown focus on coaching the kid. After the season the Jets can fire Bowles and hire a real Head Coach to get Sam up to speed for the 2019. Thoughts?
Let him sit. He can play the last 2-4 games at most. Jets need to improve the Oline in this draft. As long as the Oline isn’t dreadful, he can finish the season to get some experience.
This is a shit loser attitude...whoever looks the best should play and quite frankly if darnold isn’t looking better than mcdrown and deadinthewater I’m not convinced we picked the right guy
I'd play McCown and let this youngen watch and learn for a year. No rush to put him out there. This pick was never about 2018.
Best man starts. Once the team is out of playoff contention if darnold hasn’t played put him in and let him play out the string.
No rush HOWEVER if he’s better in camp than Mccown then he plays. I assume he won’t be, so it’s all good. Always play the best player. Earn your spot. I’m still giddy and can’t calm down. This is the Jets best pick in 40 years
Disagree, sir. Even if Darnold is the best player in camp, i vote for sitting him until the offensive line proves it's adequate in real game situations. I need to hear a really good argument explaining what exactly we lose by red-shirting him before I change my mind.
Without playing a down in the NFL, you have annoited Sam Darnold as the best pick in 40 years? No way. Obviously you haven't seen Darnold play. He is not ready to be a starting NFL QB, unless you just want to throw him to the wolves and most likely ruin his confidence.
If it were Rosen, I’d be against starting him with our OL. I’m not sure it matters for Sam. They will scheme plays where the traditional pocket location is irrelevant. Im hoping Teddy makes the team and Sam can get some learning in.
I just don't see the need for putting a 21 y/o into a position where his offensive line may struggle and ding his confidence. We want this kid to start for 15 years. What's the rush?
Considering how bad our O-line is this year, it's probably a good thing if McCown or Bridgewater plays well enough that we don't have to force Darnold out there.
how is this even a debate??? he’s so not ready. he’s barely played football! the only hope is cuz he’s so young and inexperienced. Sit him for a year or two and maybe he can be chad penningtonish.
If he's remotely close to mccown you play him year 1. Absolutely no evidence that sitting does anything to help a career. 10 starters have been drafted since 2010. 9 played Year 1 ( Jimmy G only exception)
What kind of beer do you think he will like when he turns 21? I think it will be Sol. It's a full bodied Mexican beer with a nice finish. He'll be a statesman by that point, no?
Sit him for at least five years accumulate as many top 5 picks as possible in that span then reevaluate during preseason of 2023
The Jets start with like 3 games in 11 days or something absurd. Let him sit out the first 3/4 of the season and just learn how to be a pro. Depending on how the season is going the Jets can reevaluate at that time. It would be nice to see him get to play 3 or 4 games down the stretch but I have no issue with letting him sit out the entire season.
