https://www.ganggreennation.com/201...in-on-jets-baker-mayfield-josh-rosen-decision I see this class of QB's very similarly to Mayock. There is no elite can't miss prospect. He likes Allen and Darnold the most, but feels they will both be gone by the Jets pick. In terms of Mayfield or Rosen, he'd lean Mayfield, which I can live with. Landing Cousins while maintaining our draft picks would've been so much better, but we never had a shot.
I'd hope the General Manager of an NFL team would have a better handle on it ..... but past history shows....... uhhhh......
Ha, for sure by now Macc and co have to know who the pick is if both are on the board. But it was probably still an agonizing road to get to that committing point. Is Baker attending the draft? Thought I read he wasn't.
JMO but I'm very nervous about Baker. He's a very good college QB in a QB friendly scheme specially designed by by the excellent Lincoln Riley to emphasize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses. To me there is a real risk of him turning out to be a scheme baby. Compared to some of the other QBs in this class I don't see the upside. What you see now is what you are likely to get. He's good at what he does but is that going to be enuf to cut it at the next level? If you are a DC do what Georgia did in the second half, namely keep from rolling out and confine him to the pocket and I'm not sure he has an answer. He's been compared to Drew Brees with some justification. Brees too is not big and Baker's arm is every bit as strong as Drew's. But to be really good at the next level Mayfield needs to do what Brees does and I'm far from convinced that he can. He needs to work in and around an NFL pocket well enuf to allow for longer routes to develop (not just quick hitters), all the while maintaining good visibility of passing lanes, going through real 1,2,3 and more progressions (not just coverage reads). Maybe he can but I have not seen it. And maybe there is only one Drew Brees.
probably not because he doens't want to throw a hissy fit there when he slips in the draft. It's funny how people here hated ryans antics, but love mayfields
I mean he won the sugar bowl in 2016 so i really didn't know what you were implying. He also carried a sign that said "pretenders" into the rose bowl (more immature antics) maybe he was humbled a bit by the loss, had he won though you know he would have been acting like an ass.
Pretenders sign was because the dude on College gameday called them pretenders. Just motivating his team bro. This dude dreamed of playing for this team and fought and clawed his way into that position. Put yourself in his shoes. He was doubted his whole football life. He wears his heart on his sleeve and leads his team better than anyone in this draft. I love his feistiness and competiveness. He will mature. Dude is 22 years old. http://soonersports.com/fls/31000/microsites/SignatureSeries/mayfield_my_purpose.html
he can do that in the locker room without the childish sign. it's antics. He also got beat and still said in interviews after they should have won the game and played better. not to mention blowing a 17 point lead. Still it's not like that doens't happen to good players (matt ryan and the falcons blew a huge SB lead to lose) but it was the biggest game of his career and he feel short. Which is better for us because too many times a rose bowl game got a player overdrafted (vince young for example)
Urban Meyer on Baker Mayfield: "I've never had an opposing quarterback play that well against me ever. I don't know if there has been an opposing quarterback that has played that well at Ohio State ever." Baker has played at a level in college that the other qbs in this draft can only dream of + has the fewest flaws. There will never be just one Drew Brees just like there will never be one qb as good as Peyton Manning, or Tom Brady or Joe Montana or Aaron Rodgers... The question really is why not Baker??
Ah he must be a graduate of the Rex Ryan school of motivation. I'm not going to be a hypocrite; I never had a problem with Rex Ryan's antics so I'm not going to pretend I have a problem with any of the stuff Mayfield did in the guise of "motivating his team bro". That said, I never bought the make everything about about yourself for the sake of the team bit from Rex and I certainly don't buy it from Mayfield. While Rex's act never bothered me, it certainly wore thin among a good portion of Jets fans if not the majority. Jets fans will tolerate it when you are having success but don't expect them to continue to love that "feistiness" in times of trouble. As I eluded I'm usually not that type of fan, but I will admit that Adams' "leadership" style was starting to grate at me during the course of the season. Maybe it's because he's done nothing yet to earn my tolerance.
If the picks somehow go 1. Mayfield 2. Darnold Then we will have to deal with the double suspense of roger gooddell saying the New York Jets select Josh..... Allen
He's just a Championship HC. He's not a top NFL draft analyst that studies film all the while having deep psychological insight like we have here. Plus Meyer only cares about winning. He has no class.
Baker can make it and be great if he lands in the right system. A west coast offence wouldn’t be a good fit. A hybrid pro/spread/read option he could flourish because in shotgun he will be able to see much more of tge field and use his playmaking abilities.
