So he was just being a cocky prick rather than just telling them I don't want to play for you like a man. I agree. The fact is if he didn't want to play for them he shouldn't have had their playbook and should have declined the meeting. There's nothing wrong with being straight with people, especially in the small world of pro-football when coaches and GM's move around.
If he lands in NO, gets to play in Payton's system, sit and learn under Brees for a year or 2 then I can see him having more than a decent career and that's coming from a non-Mayfield fan. You make a good point about NE. Anywhere else the bust rate is high IMO.
This is true, but maybe the recent Mayfield to the Jets smoke comes from that dinner meeting. Sort of like when the jets told Adams they would take him at 6 if he were there.
It being worse depends on what you are basing it on. On an ethical level Eli was worse but on an intellectual/financial level Mayfield is the worst ever even with a wink and nod from a top 5 team. You know how many prospects were told they would be picked by a certain team only to not have that happen? Sheesh, Rodgers thought he was going to the #1 overall pick in his draft. You don't think Miami, Buffalo, Arizona, New Orleans...etc are NOT now questioning what level of preparedness Mayfield put into their meetings? What could have been excused as a minor slip up can now in hindsight be considered possibly as the result of a lack of study and effort on his part.
I can certainly acknowledge that teams have been given the nod and not been drafted. I remember it happened to Winslow Jr and the Skins.
nobody knows what is true until next week. then we'll know and stories will come out about what really was going on.
at least it wasn't as bad as the tunsil smoking weed in a gas mask video leaking before the draft dropping him out of the top 3 all the way into the late 1st round
Yes! If Mayfield ended up in NO I'd be much more bullish on his chances of success. People compare Mayfield to Brees as proof that a shorter QB can have big success and while I'm not saying he (Mayfield) can't be successful people forget that Brees with the Chargers basically wasn't working out. He ended up in NO with Payton who is an NFL offensive mastermind and as I understand it started designing all these forward thinking progressive zones and lanes for Brees to operate in and it turned out to be a match made in heaven and rebooted Brees' career. I'm not saying I know all about it and understand all of it but lets face it..... are we that confident that Bowles and Co. are going to be operating on the cutting edge of NFL offensive evolution here and making a 6 footer work against the odds? Sheezus...... that's just a tough sell for me. And at pick #3 that you traded 3 2nds for AND will be passing on Josh Rosen? I'm not buying. Despite mounting articles and rumors to the contrary I still believe that trade eliminated Mayfield from being a Jet.
I’m not sure how much Bowles matters to be honest. Bates is the dude that needs to make this work no matter who the QB is.
Mariota is regressing and while Winston talks alot he's more ahead. Mariota threw more ints then tds with arguably a top 5 offensive line and running game.
All the mock draft nerds and media guys are now saying the Jets are gonna take Mayfield. Obviously there has been a leak of some sort. Wouldn't it make sense if it was a smokescreen though?? The Jets are picking 3rd, so they have to worry about the top 2 picks. Suppose they want either Darnold or Rosen no matter what. You WOULD want everyone to think ur gonna draft Mayfield. Buffalo, for example, might not try to trade up to number 2 if they know Rosen will still be on the board after our pick. You get them thinking we love Mayfield and it helps insure they don't trade above us
How have you been Biggs? I've always had a lot of respect for you, and right now you seem more... pointed... than usual. How you feeling bud?
It's really a win win assuming they actually do like Rosen. If a team loves Mayfield they might trade to 2, and if that happens Rosen falls in your lap. If there's a team out there that isn't buying the smokescreen then they trade up to take Rosen and Mayfield falls in your lap. Really the only way to totally botch this is to take Allen.
Might be better in the long run my man. Rosen didn't finish the last two college football seasons due to injuries. Bad injuries I might add. 1 to his shoulder and a couple to his head. I think a lot of GM's are worried that will be a continued trend in the NFL.
Give me a choice of the two and I'm picking Mariota to lead the Jets. Clarifying this by also saying I preferred Winston during the draft. I love Winston's talent, but I don't like his attitude. If Mayfield is going to turn out like Winston, then the Jets should steer clear.
Post/av with the pennington pic. You may be right. What I like about Rosen tho is that I don't think it will matter who the OC is in the long run cause he'll figure shit out himself. We will be more dependent on the OC with Mayfield.
