Headed out this Sat. for Cod and/or Blackfish. Water temps 45F off Atlantic City. Air temp forecast to be in the 70's. Waves 5ft. Not perfect but pretty damn good considering all the crazy weather we've had this Spring.
Damn.... that sounds like a recipe for me to sleep in. Seems that I'm either working or working on this damn house, or the weather is shit. Maybe one of these day I may actually go fishing again.... Go get em tiger....
LOL... I'll see what I can do Stinky.. Just got the tackle box organized, stocked and ready to go. I'm geeked! Unless it starts snowing Saturday morning, its Game On!
Well Sunday is my 1 day off (when projects are lined up) and here comes ANOTHER rainy T-storm sunday..... anyway.... 5000 is WAY to big for an inshore rod for me personally, but this is a good deal for a decent (not Cman fancy) setup! https://www.tackledirect.com/shiman...ore+Saltwater+Combo+Kit&utm_campaign=PR_41918
Mother Nature isn't cooperating at all up here...Either too windy, too cold, too wet, too somethin...
Cman I was thinking of meeting you half way tonight thought me and you could go ice fishing ? Lol damn it's cold out,,,,,my buddy was at the Yankee game and they left in the 5th inning too damn cold
C, when it gets a bit warmer, you're on! My route takes me east on the PA Tpke to I-276 to the NJ Tpke northbound to exit 7. East on I-195 into either Belmar or to NJ34 South to either Brielle or Pt. Pleasant. There's a huge rest stop northbound on the Tpke right before exit 7. We can work out the details but if you want to take a day trip one of these Saturdays, just give me a heads up and we'll make it happen.
CMAN I would love to hookup one of these days but I gotta be honest Im a Land Lubber---I hate going out--one of my best friends has a boat and I went out many times with him but those days are done,,,,,as we get older we get wiser. Maybe we hookup one day but it will be on dry land lol

Cman I think you should do a live broadcast today while you are out yachting and catching the BIG one !
I have a reservation for next Saturday on the Jamaica II for Codfish. Even Wifey is coming along. Perhaps if things get interesting, I'll do a film. The last time wifey filmed me I got my ass kicked by a 20lb unknown fish in over 100ft. of water.
What do you consider "deep-drop", Like 500' with electric reels? Some guys do, but not my thing We will bottom bump with conventional 4/0 & 6/0 in 150'-180++ though....... although that shit can be work our bottom fishing doesnt really get good until 100-120' (sans a few "hot rocks" )
Actually Stinky I'm geared up for either. Up this way we've gone out as deep as 225 for cod at the edge of the shelf. The tilefish boats go 500ft and more and I plan to give that a try this year at some point. Verrrry pricey so that's gonna be an annual thing at best. Decided to broaded my horizons this season too. Gonna try some different styles and go after different fish. Something a bit more challenging than simply drop and reel unless of course we're talking golden tilefish and other exotics.
Yeah, the whole 500' + electric reels for tilefish.... zzzzz.... Sure, they're tasty, and if Im there, I'm down for anything, but I'd rather spend that money at the beer store and fishmonger and hang out grilling in the yard 200' with a conventional is about all I want to deal with... make sure you're using braid with a lengthy "shock leader" to add a little stretch. But my preference offshore is bluewater trolling, so to each his own.... yeah, I was born with champagne taste but have a budweiser budget. Still having a chineese firedrill commence when 4 lines immediately get knocked down and peeling drag is the funnest moment in fishing IMO. I will say, getting into 40# ++ Amberjacks in 185' was fun chaos! Literally reeling up legal (12"+) vermillion snappers, and just dropping them back down to get hammered. I had a 100# snap swivel get straightened out.
The boat I had reservations on probably won't be seaworthy by the weekend so, looks like my old standby for Saturday. The Dauntless goes fairly deep and he's not targeting Blackfish so I still have a shot at Cod, Pollock and Ling. Hopefully out by "the Mudhole". SeaBass has a short first season starting 5/15 - 6/1. Not sure what the thinking was on this.. Its gonna be nice weather too so I can finally stop being so crabby around the house now. I'm sure wifey and my cats will be glad!
