You're already caught up in them. What I highlighted in your post makes a mockery of actual performance and metrics. It's lets put all this things in a beaker and shake it up and hope it smells like flowers and taste like chocolate ice cream. When you're in a program that wins 10 plus games almost every year acting a little like a leader or punk, depending on your POV is easy. That has zero to do with the actually grind of pro-football. OK football is likely to put together 10 plus win seasons 7 out of the next 10 years having zero to do with any one players leadership skills.
Or, it is look past the cover of book and understand what is inside. Perhaps you are misinterpreting what you see because you don't understand the engine driving it. It is so easy to overlook the fact that these guys are people, and as such, are individuals. It is common practice to make player analogies in order to simplify what you might be getting when you draft a player, but Baker Mayfield is not Johnny Manziel, the same way he is not Drew Brees. He is Baker Mayfield, and his story in the NFL will be unique to all the others once he gets here. What happens in his head, is something none of us really know, and will be the real deciding factor on what end up of the spectrum his story ends. We are all projecting, for our own entertainment, what we would do in the shoes of Mike Maccagnan. You can feel you know exactly how this will go, but you do not. None of us do.
who is going to play mayfield as a rookie? browns? they got taylor bills? aj maccaron jets? mccown/teddy Giants? eli Broncos? keenum cards? bradford pats? brady none of the teams are looking for a day 1 starter out of the QBs in this draft
I am sure they will limit his under center snaps. Similar to how the Texans modified their offense for Watson.
It's true, there is a good chance that all the rookies are sitting week 1, but it isn't impossible that at least 1 of them takes the job after TC and Preseason.
not eevn remotely close. watson didn't play a spread offense with the texans. they modified the offense to be similar to what carolina runs and watson took snaps from under center. lots of them
No,it doesn't. You either just don't want to admit that you're wrong, you're intentionally being obtuse, or your thinking is about 20 years behind the times. You're too smart for that. Wise up.
You are too quick/eager to disagree man. All I said was that they could curtail the offense for a rookie QB LIKE the Texans did for Watson. They definitely adjusted their offense for him. "Similar to how the Texans modified their offense for Watson." https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2017/10/13/16467512/deshaun-watson-houston-texans-offense "A big part of Watson’s success has been O’Brien’s willingness to adjust his scheme to fit his quarterback’s strengths."
Outside of Brady and Eli all of these QBs have the potential to lose their job to a rookie. The Seahawks were not planing on starting Wilson week one. Same goes for Wentz and the Eagles. Free agency lets you cover over gaps and you should then draft for talent. There are only two starters on that list that have the look of untouchable.
except the offense the texans modified to is a working NFL offense if you have the right talent. trying to install mayfields offense from oklahoma would be a disaster. remember when spurrior tried to use the "fun and gun" offense in the NFL? it was a disaster
I put Mayfield in that class myself, of course opinionated, but if I had a choice... I would've stayed at 6; took Jackson (cause he would've been there) and from there could've gotten a pass-rusher in RD2 and lineman in RD3. The only QBs worth trading up for was Rosen or Darnold.
The cult of personality lets weigh it 20% and throw it into the computer and call it money ball. My friend you have it ass backwards. I could care less about Mayfield's personality, leadership skills, etc., etc.. All I care about is how does he project at the next level as a professional QB. Having gone through lots of tape it looks to me like Rosen is head and shoulders the best QB in this class. It doesn't look close to me. I don't care about his leadership skills. He is going to be in pro football and have pro coaches. I want him to develop that skill and perform at the NFL level. FYI it took me a long time to come to the conclusion about Rosen. I decided to turn off all the noise about personality, injuries, program and just watch. To me he looks like a pro QB, throws like a pro QB and acts like one on the field. He has beautiful footwork and touch. I've turned off the noise and I think if he's available and we don't take him this is Marino all over again.
you disagreed with my post 1st, and when i agreed with my original post, you called it disagreeing with you. see how that can be spun? you were 1st to disagree, don't be that guy projecting your stuff on me.
I like your analysis and missing on another potential great QB like Rosen does scare me and give me PTSD type flashbacks of how close were to getting Marino, Favre, Peyton Manning and Wilson. But what would scare me even more is if Rosen goes to the Bills, Phins or Pats. If we do not take Rosen I sure hope Denver or another non-division team trades up for him. In a perfect world for the Jets, the Bills will end up with Allen.
FYI new rumors out of jets camp 1) they aren't considering allen 2) darnold is "their guy" if he's there at 3 or a possible trade to 2 if the browns take allen (they have darnold ranked way higher then mayfield ot rosen) 3) known already but the only QB the giants would consider would be darnold 4) If browns take darnold, jets are split between rosen and mayfield currently
If the Bills can bench Taylor for Peterman, the Browns can bench Taylor for the #1 overall pick. AJ McCarron might not end well for Buffalo. If Bowles doesn't play the rookie, he and Mac are getting fired. The Giants one of two teams where I don't expect the rookie to play. Give Bradford 2 weeks to get hurt. The Patriots are the other team where I don't expect the rookie to play.
Forget it. There's no way that a coaching staff can modify anything similarly to what's happened before with anyone else. Especially when it comes to Mayfield. That's not allowed, lol
