Not well, but it's still not much better than a 50-50 shot with any of them. That being said, Darnold and Rosen have pretty much always been projected as the top two QB's from the get go. What happens is, leading up the draft is those consensus picks get questioned more and more, and fans of teams like the Jets that are sitting outside the range of the top two players start to tell themselves fantasies about the next guy in line, then magically, that "other guy" in this case Mayfield, well he is secretly the better prospect. It' s B.S., they can tell themselves all the fantasies they like, Mayfield has no business even being picked in the first round. He's a career back up at best, just watch.
We all have our opinions and I'm not buying Mayfield at all. He's the classic "riser" you never heard anything remotely about him being a first round pick 6 months ago, at best he was considered a fringe round 2 pick, now he's potentially a top 5 pick? B.S. He spells bust in neon.
If you watched the Ohio State game, then you saw that Darnold's O-line was DESTROYED from the first play to the last. He had no chance out there. I actually thought he played pretty well despite the circumstances. It doesn't matter how good of a QB you are, if your O-line fails you: You are toast. Look at Mayfield in the 2nd Half and OT vs. Georgia. Same thing. That's life.
And why have "you all invested your time" with a select few? Maybe because you (and much of TGG) didn't follow the entire 2017 college QB crop throughout the season? Not "taking the time to analyzing" the front-runner coming into the 2017 season? Gee, wonder why? .
Not sure what your point is to be honest. We have discussed three of the QBs on this website. All I said was, lets discuss the other dude.
Don't worry, he'll be gone and it's more than likely so will Rosen. The Giants can't afford to not take Rosen considering Eli's age and ability right now, don't let the draft "experts" fool you, if they don't take him, they are trading out for someone that is.Many here will be jumping for joy if the Jets draft Mayfield, and if they do it will be one more blown draft. The Jets could literately make almost any other pick here and be all right. Allen would make all the sense in world here, while he isn't ready and will need a year or two, the Jets roster isn't ready and will need a year or two.
Well said. I flip-flop every damn day it seems. Prefer Rosen one day, Baker the next. Gun to my head I think I rank as Rosen, Baker, then Sam, in terms of who I want to be the pick.
If it's baffling, then that's because you can't judge QBs worth a darn. Competition? ROFLMAO!!! None of the other QBs can hold a candle to Mayfield's competitive spirit and fire. NONE! Complexity of system? Prove it! Darnold played in a modified spread. Whatever, dude
Get ready to be disappointed, because Mayfied is going to be the pick regardless of who else is there at #3.
If Darnold is there at 3, it represents a classic SOJ Trap. It's easy to see how Macc, or any GM, can love Darnold - he's big and strong, athletic, all qualities they love about Allen, BUT Darnold has played stronger competition, and has a much better completion %. Meanwhile he's an ALL American Boy, with no scary "librul" personality and thinking, and he's not a "midget". What's not to love? Well, his mechanics are suspect; he tends to scramble more than he has to; his accuracy, while better than Allen's (Whose isn't) isn't all that great, especially downfield; and he took most snaps from SG, and hasn't really played in a pro system. None of these are fatal, per se, but they will take time to fix, and the Jets don't have that time to invest, and more importantly haven't shown the ability to develop QBs. If they take Darnold there will be much fanfare and high expectations, like with Sanchez, but ultimately, disappointment.
I love Mayfield and want him to be the pick, but I am not so sure this regime will show that much conviction and draft Mayfield over a player most NFL GMs have ranked 1st in the class.
Please, for every 1rst round QB that ever busted, which is about 50% o them, there was some fool convinced he saw the next Great one.
You could definitely be right. I think it will depend upon a couple of things. One, how secure Mac and Bowles are in their jobs. If they know they will be here for at least two more years, then I think they could be more inclined to go with Darnold or maybe even Allen. If their job is on the line, and the QB they draft needs to show the ability to get on the field sooner rather than later this season, then I think they will go with Rosen or Mayfield. If they truly want the leadership and competitive fire, they will go with Mayfield. If they fear Rosen's injury history (throwing shoulder as well as concussions), or doubt his commitment to the game, I think they'll go with Mayfield. They've suffered through all the TOs with Geno, and they know how Sanchez bombed here. I would be shocked beyond words if they went with Darnold. Mayfield's ceiling may not be as high as the other three, but his floor is higher and he's a safer pick.
I hope you are correct, I'll be laughing my a$$ off when they add that video clip to the dozen other blown Jet clips. Just like the guy they interviewed after they passed on Marino.
i'm not saying darnold doesn't have faults (he does) but some of the stuff you list is pretty off. He did play in a pro offense and also he's not big like allen. he's average height at 6'3" (shorter then rosen and allen, same size as jackson, taller then mayfield)
USC went 11-3 beating Stanford twice and both UCLA and CaL So just how bad was their OL Dark? They lost big time to 2 Premier programs Norte Dame and Ohio State...2 of the better teams and defenses...which to me translates to just a step below NFL caliber D Not saying I hate Samthe QB just that I like another better
I didn't say he was as big as Allen, but he IS big and strong and athletic, all things that the Allen guys love about him. Most of the snaps he took were from the SG; I don't know how "pro" the system he played in was. My point is that he's not as polished and complete as people make him out to be, nor is he a "lock" to succeed.
