Mangold announced his retirement today. Thanks for a great 11 years. Great player. We really miss him. Wish him the best of luck. Definitely a Ring of Honor member. Does he make the Hall? 7 time pro bowl? To me yes. I try not to be biased but I might be with him being a Jet. Mawae should be a Hall of Famer too. I think Mawae was a better player than Mangold. Both are deserving of the Hall in my opinion but the Hall is weird about olineman.
Great player. Hopefully hes healthy and that he was sensible enough with his money that he's set for life. Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
One of my all-time favorite Jets. We were very luck to have him for 11 years. No matter who was around him and D'Brickashaw, they always made it work. I think fans seeing how poorly the C was played last season learned to appreciate Nick a little more. He will be missed and I hope he has a great retirement.
Considering our history with centers I feel like we will just fall in to another perennial all pro. Nick was a pros pro though. Not sure if he is a hof player and definitely not before mawae but a great jet from beginning to end
Here here. Never did I cross my fingers and say a prayer more for a player than whenever he went down on a play.
He was a part of one of the best drafts in Jets history. Him and Brick in the 1st round was huge for this franchise. Mangold is a man's man and was a true professional. Glad he was a part of this team.
Great player, not sure he is HOF worthy, but certainly one of the best Jets in recent memory. Our O-line woes and the lack of a center shows how important the position is and how spoiled we've been with Mawae/Mangold back to back.
Loved his shout out to Jets fans in his retirement announcement (referring to how Ohio State fans are "some casual and some die hard", but New York Jets fans are "all die hard (as I have found)". He is certainly a possible Hall of Famer, but as noted above, Mawae was a bit better and is a definite Hall of Famer. Best of luck to him. I certainly hope he maintains his connection with the team.
Good luck, Nick! One of my very favorite Jets in recent times. Great Jet, great guy. Enjoy your retirement. I think he just had an honest conversation with himself and saw the writing on the wall: 34 years old, nagging injuries. Part of the great guy part (and there's a lot reasons he's a great guy), he definitely was a prankster and a goofball to top it off. Remember when he threw Jay Cutler into a swimming pool and ruined his diabetes monitor? Ooops! Unintentional of course, but Cutler was so pissed - more about being thrown in the pool because he's such a sour puss. Mangold insisted on replacing it (which he did), but still laughed. Slightly off-topic, but was anyone as irked as I was that Aaron Glenn didn't retire a Jet?
The single best OL man we had who should be in the HOF is Winston Hill. He killed the Colts vaunted DL in the SB. 5 pro bowls at LT and 3 at RT. He didn't sniff it. Marvin Powell had a great career, 3 time all pro but he fell off a cliff at the end of his Jets career and hung on a couple of years on Tampa. He looked bad for a few years. Mawae was an incredibly athletic center. I think he is HOF worthy. Mangold was a beast. Probably not HOF worthy but he was a tremendous player and draft pick.
