Some very dubious managing by Callaway there - two outs, men on second and third, and he pinch hits Bruce for Nido batting in the 8th spot. Brewers obviously immediately walk Bruce, and then Syndergaard pops out on the first pitch. He wasted two players there, including a catcher, for no reason. Gotta do better than that, Mickey. That's managing 101.
Wow, now Syndergaard is pulled after two batters in the 6th, making the decision to pinch hit for Nido and then not pinch hit for Thor in the bottom of the 5th even more ridiculous. If the Mets lose this game it will be a choice between a complete lack of clutch hitting and terrible managing that will be the primary cause.
And now horrible defense costs them two runs. First Frazier doesn't make the easy play on a ground ball and then Rosario makes an error on the throw on a ground ball in the hole. Unfortunately that's more like what we expect from this team.
And Nimmo ties the game! Single, triple and home run today. Is anyone seriously thinking of trading this guy?
Not really a place for him unless you do one of two major things: bench Cespedes, which isn't going to happen, or make Bruce part of the first base plan, which Callaway shows no signs of wanting to do right now. Basically Cespedes or Bruce or Gonzalez have to play themselves out of the lineup, or Nimmo is just going to keep getting games here and there. That's okay for now, but may have to change as the season goes along.
What the hell is going on with Rosario today? It seems that he's bouncing every throw over to first base, and Flores has bailed him out every time but once. I have no confidence in this team in the field at this point - let's win it right now, boys.
It felt like Gabe Kapler was managing the Mets. There will be good games and there will be bad games. That’s why it’s good to have a great start, easier to accept the peaks and valleys of the season.
Watched the entire game. Bottom of the 9th 2 outs had to take the dog out before i went to grab some dinner. He hit the walkoff. Mannn... can’t believe that. Great win nonetheless. We can really bury the nationals over the next 3 days. Hopefully we start off right with deGrom tomrrow.
Great interview with Nimms on the pre-game. Dude is solid as fuck. He gets the start and Ces finally gets a rest. Bruce out again tho. Hope he's okay
I know that stolen bases are generally overrated, but the Mets really need to do something about their complete inability to stop players from stealing at will. It's gotten so bad that it seems most times they don't even make a throw.
