What about those that don't like Allen and Mayfield? I am probably the only guy on that boat. In my eyes, it's always been a 3 QB draft. Darnold, Rosen and Jackson.
Well imo I think you are going to be shit out of luck on draft day, as it could easily be 1 Darnald, 2 Rosen and 3 JETS to pick from a QB or bpa.
I appaulded Adams for his skills on the field and his due diligence off the field. He's a true leader in that sense. Listen to Adams talk: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...through-an-in-depth-demo-on-how-to-stop-Gronk This is why I like Rosen, because he has a very similar approach. They are more then RAH RAH guys. There isn't a transcendent QB in this draft ... so are you confirming my consistent message with all of those quotes? BTW Sanchez is a good leader, ask the Bears or any other team. The guy knows the game, just sucks we fucked him up during his earlier years.
Meh, I never really get what I want anyway lol ... if the draft went this route, the trade-up was a big L for Mac IMO.
Mayfield himself on leadership: http://soonersports.com/fls/31000/microsites/SignatureSeries/mayfield_my_purpose.html DeDe Westbrook reflecting on his time at Oklahoma (Mayfield's leadership is a topic): https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/dede-westbrook-oklahoma-georgia Article from 2016 with an outside perspective of Mayfields leadership that Westbrook was talking about: http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsext...cle_7c3e8f1e-d082-5a63-8698-8387bdb783d6.html Perine on Mayfield: http://www.oudaily.com/sports/oklah...cle_0f5a1cae-b9b1-11e6-a5e9-ab06feb3f37d.html Article after the Sugar Bowl, same season: http://www.bigisthenewsmall.com/201...ssons-from-baker-mayfield-and-the-sugar-bowl/ Washington Post article on Mayfield, including leadership: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ll-wilson-brett-favre/?utm_term=.488255ad12aa Mayfield vs the World: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...he-world-and-he-wouldnt-have-it-any-other-way Jamal Adams tweeted endorsement of Mayfield (since deleted): https://elitesportsny.com/2018/01/0...baker-mayfield-ringing-endorsement-rose-bowl/ There is absolutely no debate that Mayfield was a major part of a very successful program and was largely seen as the leader by his peers. His willpower in overcoming the odds against him are also well documented. Mayfield was handed nothing. A player of his stature has to earn every last inch, as he is still doing today with people who dismiss him for his height or his system or other arbitrary reasons. In your case 101, you seem anchored on some immature instances that are widely acknowledged as being unacceptable and can not be carried to the next level. It seems for you, these instances are definitive proof that they WILL carry to the next level, and that anything else Mayfield has ever done is invalid. People continue to underestimate this kid. It hasn't worked up to now, and I personally don't see it ending here.
I gave your post a like but I have a feeling lately that Mayfield is going to be a Buffalo Bill or a Miami Fish QB and as such I'm going to have to hate Mayfield. So I don't want to like Mayfield too much right now
It's not just about tossing footballs at players heads prior to a game, I want my QB to be a film junkie. Mayfield is a vocal guy, I can't dispute that. However, I want a QB that thinks outside the box, knows what they need to improve on and will question authority to ensure they are on the right path to greatness. That to me embodies Rosen. I don't get that sense from Mayfield, and the articles kind of confirm that. How many times do they talk about film in those articles? Not much. Last time I checked, Mayfield is still learning the basics of the WCO, but Rosen already knows so much about the WCO. He's far ahead. Mayfield seems like a total bro, good guy has some desirable traits, but I look at QBs like Lamar and Rosen and their traits are far more desirable IMO. They may not be as loud as Mayfield, but they are leaders in their own right. They have elite traits like IQ, accuracy, progressions, running ability, arm strength. Thats why I call Mayfield's leadership skills a "dime a dozen". People love the guy, not discounting that. We've seen fiery guys come and go, but I want a guy that has the mental part of the game established. Thats what the Jets need right now.
That would hurt. If we don't get Mayfield, I'm hoping he goes to Arizona or some other team that is remote from the Jets perspective.
I feel much more connected to the QB prospects (the big 4) this draft because I have envisioned all of them being Jets. I don't remember another time when the jets were clearly going to pick a QB and had multiple options in front of them, I suppose '83, but that is way before my time. It will hurt to see someone like Mayfield dominate elsewhere if that is the case. At this point in the process I want either Rosen or Mayfield.
I really don't get where you're coming away with the impression that Mayfield is lacking in football IQ or film study. First of all, any strength Rosen has in that area is mutually exclusive from what Mayfield is or is not. One has no relationship with the other. It is fair to say you prefer Rosen, and it is fair to say that IQ is why you prefer Rosen, but that does not diminish Mayfield. If you think it does, that is just plain ol bias. Secondly, where is the evidence that Mayfield is lacking in football smarts, or that he has a special learning curve? https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/02/01/baker-mayfield-high-school-draft-field-johnny-manziel-comparisons https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/03/08/b...iews-draft-browns-jets-dolphins-saints-giants https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/04/05/b...y-oklahoma-offense-draft-audibles-protections http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combi...er-Mayfield-gets-personal-with-Steve-Mariucci I can buy liking Rosen for his smarts. I can't buy this translates to Mayfield not possessing a high football of his own.
Have you seen Rosen's interviews when he talks about going through progressions and the correlation with the big play? Can you point me to anything Mayfield says that is remotely outside the box when playing the QB position? The links above do not. Did you know it only took Rosen 3 days to learn the UCLA offense? He absolutely had full control of the offense by the time he was a sophomore. He set the protections, made the pre / post snap read. Thats in the shotgun or under center. Mayfield has never had FULL command of the offense despite the top article because in the 2nd half of Georgia, the playcalling got very conservative and Mayfield did himself no favors. I am sorry, but the rib injury is no excuse here. Intellectually, Rosen is on another level. Like I said before, he is the hero the Jets need right now. Mayfield like I said, he's a solider, he plays hard, but I want the IQ + the elite traits. I want more.
You are conflating your love for Rosen as equaling Mayfield not stacking up. You're entitled to your opinion, but I can't help you when you are reaching conclusions that are so logically off base. There are certain tidbits of data you've latched on to. I don't think any amount of evidence will have any effect on what is an entrenched opinion.
In addition Mayfield had the the 2nd highest score in the AIG Test of any QB ever. The AIG was developed to replace the wonderlink test because the wonderlink test (developed in 1934) has not shown a very good link between high scores and football intelligence along with carrying a number of cultural, economic, language and other biases. Because of the poor performance of the Wonderlink the AIQ was developed which measures a football players intelligence in terms of Field awareness, decision making, reaction time, learning, creativity, and adaptability. Mayfield scored the highest score of any player this year and one of the highest scores ever recorded among the 4000+ players who have taken the test. There is no doubt that Mayfield and Rosen are both smart. I am very impressed with Rosen's intelligence, honesty and mind. But unlike Mayfield I do question Rosen's commitment to football. Unlike Mayfield, Rosen has quite a few outside interests. I applaud Rose for being an empathetic, caring and questioning human being but If I was going to bet money on the success of a QB I would choose a more self centered single minded focused individual with a large chip on his shoulder everytime over such a diversified human being with so many non football interests and thoughts like Rosen. If i was going to choose a friend or someone to hang out I would choose Rosen over Mayfield everytime but if Iwanted a dedicated leader focused on being the best QB he can be Mayfield's personality seems a lot more focused on football than Rosen.
The proof is in the pudding, watch any interview Rosen does, even back to the Elite 11 Camp as a high schooler. The kid is intellectually on another level and has a different approach to how he plays the game. http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/new...ick-defenses-apart/1ivou6tti9yvh1mmtq0qm34vxs No one talks like this right now. Out of the prospects coming out, no one. He is the best progression QB in this class. Everything I say isn't fabricated, it's things he's saying in interviews. I don't care about the wonderlic or these aptitude tests. I am all about what you say in the interview and how you play on the field.
I don't have a problem with Josh Rosen. If he ends up as the Jets QB, I will root for him and be excited the team finally has a franchise QB. I have concerns about Rosen, but I have concerns about every QB in this class. Josh Rosen being a good prospect does NOT prove that Baker Mayfield is not.
I agree with everything you said about Rosen, which is why I've wanted him from day 1 (after the idiots passed on Mahomes), but Mayfield isn't chopped liver, and if my suspicions hold, Rosen will be gone by #3. At that point I'm all in on Mayfield, even if Darnold is there.
