An elite defense without a QB can win you a SB if everything goes right. And then the defense ages and demands more money, and the whole thing falls apart. Which is why the Broncos finished worse than us last year. If you want sustainable success, you need the QB.
Mayfields most underrated trait is going through his reads and he often went through more than two. He can diagnose a defense well
Mayfield makes pretty good decisions with the football. However, that trait doesn't really separate him from the pack. Rosen and Lamar can both do the same thing and at a high level.
The mile high report has a nice summary of why they think Mayfield is the best prospect. https://www.milehighreport.com/2018/4/9/17213706/baker-mayfield-scouting-report Some of the highlights they claim are: 1. Mayfield has better velocity on short and intermediate throws than Allen. 2. Mayfield is the most accurate QB when throwing into tight windows. 3. Mayfield has the best ball placement of the top QBs. 4. Mayfield grades out better under pressure than the other QBs do with a clean pocket. 5. Mayfield grades out better than other QBs when making NFL type throws. 6. Mayfield incompletions come from bad throws at a much lower rate than other QBs. 7. Mayfield has the highest football IQ of all the prospects. 8. Mayfield grades out the best on intermediate throws. 9. Mayfield grades out the best when under pressure. When I look at a QB what makes or breaks a QB for me is the ability to perform under pressure, be accurate, process information quickly, make quick decisions, get the ball out and convert third downs. This is what excites me about Mayfield. His ability to make quick decisions, perform under pressure and move the chains. Bonus here is his ability to to make intermediate throws and throw with velocity and accuracy. Good QB play is 99% mental, and being able to make good decisions. Add in his superior accuracy and very good arm strength and it is apparent why Mayfield is so appealing. Despite that I still think he has red flags in height and issues transitioning form the spread offense but then again all of the top 3 are flawed.
This! This has been my go-to for why I love Mayfield. When I have watched game tape of him, he is frequently going through reads. His eyes move all over the field.
A Broncos fan board review? Lol, finds the guy who pretty much will be left in the Broncos lap after the top three QBs are picked? SHOCKING!
Rosen is the cream of the crop in my opinion. I assume you are saying Darnold is better at it and I respectfully do not agree.
It is fairly obvious you did not actually read the article or the citations form the article. While I do not agree with everything in the article such as a heavy reliance on advanced statistics he makes a good case for Baker actually citing legitimate sources and evidence which is a refreshing contrast to posters that simply cite their own opinions as fact expecting everyone to only believe what they say because their opinion is the only one that matters.
Nope not Darnold. Lamar Jackson had more responsibility at the LOS then Mayfield. They ran a progression offense with Lamar run plays.
WOW...I just looked through this report and it is EXTREMELY impressive. The detail and depth that they go is extraordinary.
Do you want us to pick Jackson at three then ? I have seen you bigging him up several times but seems a stretch at 3 imo for what that is worth.
Mayfield is a stretch at 3 too. At 3, I want the Jets to take Rosen. If he's gone, then what a waste of a trade.
They all seem a bit of a stretch tbh, this is meant to be a super class for QB's but everybody is split 4 ways and even the odd smattering for a 5th QB a true star would have the site united behind him but nobody seems to have a reasonable second choice. Love Allen hate on Mayfield etc etc Maybe out of all of them Darnald is the one that is getting the least stick but he surely has to go number 1 to the Browns ?
mayfields senior yr passer rating - 198.9 geno senior yr smiths passer rating - 163.9 those are not even remotely similar numbers. geno threw the ball over 100 more times than baker ... omitting that fact while claiming they had similar stats deliberately misleading
werent you bigging up jamal adams leadership abilities last year? hes pretty much the definition of a rah rah guy
the only recent guys that i can think of that match this criteria are cam, kaep, and josh freeman ... and josh allen is closer to josh freemans level of athleticism than he is cam
Adams not only is a RAH RAH type of player, he's very studious in the film room, he knows a lot about the game. There was a great video where he talked about going up against Gronk and what you should or should not do.
