Is it fair to suggest that Mayfield can be a good NFL QB while acknowledging his flaws which could deter him at the next level? Or does that make me a Mayfield fan boy?
that is very fair, but i'd prefer if people based it on their own eyes and opinions. anyone is allowed to have an opinion that mayfield can be good, i never said otherwise.
That’s totally reasonable. To be a definitive Mayfield fanboy one must completely shun potential flaws, blindly tout stats as bible both for Mayfield & as to dismiss Josh Allen. Stats have very little place in evaluating college talent. The argument gets brought up every single year & it never gets proven to be anything close to a true indicator of future return.Everybody thought we couldn’t go wrong w a TE who caught over 100 balls In a season despite looking stiff at the combine & playing in a big 12 gimmick system..and then Jace Amaro happened. There are countless other examples. This flawed approach gets even further compounded when completion % gets fixated on bc it’s not a cut & dry statistic & contains moving parts beyond a QBs control. There are Mayfiekd fans that have done the research & have conviction. That’s respectable & disagreements just boil down to difference of opinion and/or preference.
In all honesty I've learned a LOT this year in being challenged to go beyond the raw stats, and while it's sometimes annoying, it has made me better informed, and has actually changed my preconceived opinions from when I started. That said, I'm still all in for Rosen, and not real happy about Allen, but I would be okay with any of the 4 when all is said and done. Oh yeah, and Darnold has dropped to 4th in my ranking of the "consensus Top 4".
Mac would be pretty dumb to pick the QB that needs a lot of working on and developing to do.. I don't think Mac's leash is long enough sit around and wait for another project to develop (or suck) especially after trading 3 2nd rounders for this pick. Esp. in this market, Jets fans are starving for a productive QB and some success. Bringing in the next experiment wont sit well with a lot of people. If Mac knows whats good for his job I think he should go Mayfield.
I'm surprised about you having Darnold as 4th. In my view, Darnold is the clear 2nd. What has you down on him?
If it’s Rosen vs Mayfield we truly have issues... both have pro bowl qualities and both have bust qualities. Rosen for me looks more like an NFL QB and has unbelievable instincts on the field. Mayfield is a gamer that is confident and has good accuracy. If I were Mac I’d pick Rosen without a doubt
People love to talk about Allen's amazing 66 mph velocity at the scouting combine and it is amazing. But I saw this graphic from the senior bowl that showed on short and intermediate throws Mayfield had better and more consistent velocity than Allen. Jordan Zirm ✔ @clevezirm it's always interesting how we talk about arm strength. can Josh Allen throw the ball farther than Baker Mayfield? yes. but Mayfield looks to have more consistent velocity on short to intermediate throws 7:52 PM - Jan 25, 2018 10 See Jordan Zirm's other Tweets Interesting, I wonder if Allen is a case like Sanchez where his velocity is much better in shorts and drops off dramatically in a real game. I really do not believe arm strength matters as long as a QB meets a minimum threshold but if you take away Allen's arm strength what does he have left? Is he even worth drafting in any round? Here is the article link. https://www.milehighreport.com/2018/4/9/17213706/baker-mayfield-scouting-report
you really thinking about that? its a no brainer my man, Rosen is gonna be like Matt Ryan and you take a Matt Ryan
So if you take the congregate of all the draft reports out there it appears that Josh Allen's draft position floor and Mayfield's draft position ceiling meet at pick 3 for the Jets. Based on these poll results it seems the majority of Jets fans rather reach after already trading up.
Great way to explain it. I don't get it. I will reserve judgement until I see the #3 overall pick play for the Jets though.
There were big question marks regarding Matt Ryan coming out because of his propensity to turn the ball over in college. I wouldn't be against Rosen, but he does seem a bit brittle as well as somebody who may walk away from the game early.
To me this is pretty telling. I just don't see them drafting a guy that they didn't have visit the team HQ. Granted there is still some time left for a visit but not a whole lot. Hopefully they realized his lack of accuracy is the reddest of flags and something not likely to improve in the NFL.
You are probably right. While some teams have been known to NOT visit with the guy they intend to draft as a smokescreen, that is not Maccagnan's style. All three of his 1st round picks (Williams, Lee, Adams) had pre-draft visits to Florham Park, Adams' the most famous, as the Jets reportedly told him he was wasting his time visiting them because they didn't think he would be on the board at 6. So at least with macc, the pre-draft visits are a pretty good indicator. I think it's between Rosen and Mayfield myself.
Speaking of film this review of Mayfield by Pro Football Focus thinks he's the best QB in this class https://www.si.com/nfl/video/2018/04/09/2018-nfl-draft-qb-prospects-baker-mayfield-top-pick
