who cares.....get me back to the series...I could not give a hairy shit less if Yankees get post season awards
Looks like the Yankees won the Igawa bidding. More money than expected ($25M), but his overall contract will probably be a lot less than what a Lilly or Meche or Suppan will get, so I guess that was Cashman's thinking. The posting fee money isn't a baseball expenditure anyway, so he feels he's getting something equal to Lilly for half the price.
Interesting. How is this guy? I've never heard of him. He's at least equal to Lilly? Is he at least a lefty? We're looking at a rotation with only RJ as a lefty starter again, and I really don't like that. Something interesting. Is Japan going to go all "auto industry" on us now with baseball? Build them smaller, faster, more economic and then flood our market with them? Looks like Matsuzaka may have opened a very strange can of worms. (Not to say these guys aren't worth being MLB players, but what if they just start bidding out everyone with any talent? That can turn into one big money pit very quickly.)
He's a 27 year old lefty. Not a power pitcher, more of a control pitcher with a great curveball. Most think his lack of a big fastball will make him a back of the rotation innings eater. I'm sure the contract will be a lot less than what Lilly will get, and I'm sure Igawa can at the least match Lilly's 99 ERA+, and give them innings (something Lilly has trouble with).
That works for me. We needed a lefty in the rotation. I don't know about curveball pitching lefties in Yankee Stadium, but if he has great control, then how can you not like that!?!
I will be shocked if this guy does well in the MLB.... His stuff is all soft toss crap....this has panic written all over it.
That's not necessarily true. Zito is great against everyone except the Yanks and Sox. Wakefield is great against everyone but the Yanks. Most pitchers agree that it's better to have slower stuff with great control. Placement of pitches is much more important than the speed. All major league hitters can hit a 95mph fastball right down the pipe. That's batting practice. A ball that dances is much harder to hit because it involves more guesswork. If he's tossing 86mph curves the day after RJ is flinging 92mph sliders, that throws off opponents' timing. I think people underestimate the effectiveness of that. Plus, think about how a team will feel watching offspeed stuff for 7, then facing Proctor and Mo late in the game. It'll look like they're throwing 100.
I have never seen the guy pitche but i think we acquired his rights based on not wanting to give up so much for mediocre SPs like Lilly and Meche. The$25 mil doesn't count against the luxury tax so when he's signed he'll be cheaper against the tax than the other guys.
Don't laugh at Shade junc. It must be hard to watch a called strike three to end your season with the bases loaded and your best hitter at the plate.

In Ben Maller's FOX Website today, he mentioned a trade involving Melky Cabrera and Humberto Sanchez could be offered to the Marlins in exchange for Dontrelle Willis, a story originally broken by the Daily News' George King.
I read it in the Post, the mention of it in his article was just a random suggestion by George King. He didn't report it as a rumor that has any credibility, it was just his own opinion. And even if it was an actual "rumor", it's George King reporting it, so it doesn't carry much weight.
